Disappointing that Duigan and Russell have been named on the field, and Thornton, Bower & Lucas have to sweat it out on the bench. Don't know what more they can do to earn a spot really.

JR got better as game wore on. He n Duigan have credits in bank.
TBird is a fwd now but Hammer n JW ahead of him
Bower was good so unlucky to be on bench, but Sugar did SFA apart from two goals

Based on one game? Possibly. Duigan's upside is far greater than Russell's IMHO. Tuohy's is even greater.

Based on the last 3 weeks (although Russell only played 2).

Not sure how you can say Duigan has a greater upside than Russell. Duigan will never be close to runner-up in the John Nichols Medal.

He wasn't at the club in that year. We have evolved. Last year's selections did judge Nick ahead of Jordan

Russell had a shocker last year. You were talking about their upside. Russell has a greater upside ie Russell's best is better than Duigan's best.

Russel has a pea heart, has been at the club for 8-9 years & had 1 good year, had he have not been a top 10 pick, we would have delisted him ages ago. He should be at his prime now, yet I could name 6-8 players that have passed him!

He def isn't in my best 22!

He's never been accused of being soft.

Had no pre-season last year, and then had an elbow injury. These together ruined his 2011.
He's slowly starting to get back into form, and given his last 2 weeks, compared with player playing similar positions, he deserves to keep his spot.
And given that he's named on the field, he likely will.

Harsh call.
My only issue with Russell is his disposal, which has improved but I'm never certain how much of any given day.

JR is going much better than last year now that his body is right again. When Laidler returns it'll be a question of can we fit Duigan, JR & Laidler in the one team - given that Thouy is an automatic as adds the X factor ?

This week's outs: T-Bird, Meerkat, Ellard.

Bower one of our best last week so should get another crack.

He's still playing reactive football. Watching as others make the play.

His lack of confidence out there is so obvious, plagued by indecision, and very hesitant to take the game on.....

There were a couple of moments on the weekend that made me think Russell's form might be on the way up. Only very brief moments, but I just have a feeling he might come good again soon

We will win by 36pts. We will play a fast running quick movement style of game and kill them on turnovers.

me too - I think with a number of injuries and restings, JR took a bit of leadership role

hoping Yarrans injury is not too bad - miss his breaking the lines

The simple fact is that as we get better he either stands up or is out. Actually can't believe he is picked ahead of a few others.

IMO when Laidler, Carrazzo & Yarran come back he isn't even close to our best 22.

i can hardly bare to watch whenever JR gets into the play. he runs to the wrong places, and when he is the loose man in defence, as he was last week against teenagers, he never makes it to the contest to do a decent spoil - he can't read the play like laider and duigan. his disposal is poor. i don't see any upside at all. i cringed when i saw he was named on the field. can't wait till yarran is back to replace him.
