That's very funny GWS and probably true.
I'm glad I dislike him...but I do respect his achievements (except for 1969 and especially the cheating 1993).

Frankly I would be happy with a comfortable 6 gl win, the 4pts, no injuries and having the likes of Duigs, Jamo, Walks, Bower and Jeffy run into some solid form before the Saints. I'd love to see Simmo, Gibbo and Murph sitting on the bench in the last quarter with their feet up.

I suspect some posters are just setting themselves up to give the Blues a smack if a win isn't 100pts plus. It will be hard to not mentally relax against the GWS so I'm not expecting a smashing.

Get the win and move on I say.

Always happy with the 4 points....and the Cup.
100 points would be nice...hopefully to erase some of the pain I still feel with the Bumbers loss. We learned a lot from that.
I'd really like to see our players continue to run hard and continue to improve this side of their game too, let alone their mojo to crush teams.

Still reckon it will be a thrashing. Just can't see the margin being less than 10 goals or 2.5 goals per quarter.

Club29 makes a great point about Giants' opponents having big training schedule prior to playing the Giants.
I don't know what we've done this week in terms of training, but the preference to rest players doesn't seem akin to this.

On the other hand, there is lowering expectations to perhaps cover for what may turn out to be a less than 100% 'cruisy' effort.

Percentage will be crucial in securing a top 4 or even a top 2 spot - it is crucial to our finals campaign that we take opportunities such as this to boost our percentage as much as we can to maximise our chances - to go out there and 'cruise' to a comfortable win would be such a waste and bordering on unprofessional in terms of preparing for September.

We have to treat opportunities such as this with a sense uncompromising competitive ruthlessness that premiership teams must have.

Even with Judd and Waite out, I think our squad for this game is strong enough to record a BIG victory.

Maybe those rested load up on the training they can handle. Non contact helps. Maybe they are just old so a freshen up gets similar results as a heavy training schedule for player in their early 20's.

I have dropped my 7-8 goal win prediction to 6-7 as i saw one of our forwards ordering up some Red Rooster last night. Chips and mousse included.

I'm thinking a 30 or 40 point win. Nothing massive, because they will be fighting til the death.
Setanta will most likely inspire them with his passion, as will Sheeds with his blah blah arrogant Blues think you are crap speech.
Also they have some pretty good mature agers, as well as kids with huge talent.
So yeah, I'd be surprised ,(pleasantly),with a huge win.

Even though I have met Sheedy a few times through mutual friends I cannot stomach the b#stard

He is teh most anti-Carlton person of all time, he manufactured the Carlton v Essendon* when he took his hatred of us from Richmond to Essendon*

Make no mistake he hates us with an absolute passion

I still am filthy on the way Ken Hunter used to get targeted by the Essendon* defenders - I shouldnt say this, but one of my most enjoyable moments was seeing Neil 'Nobby' Clarke do his knee against the Blues in Rd 22, 1983. I could be wrong on this as I was sitting a fair distance away but my thoughts and obseravtions at the time was that after Hunter had marked the ball in the fwd pocket at VFL Park in front of the small scoreboard Clarke came in late to crunch Hunter with his knees, and ended up doing his knee and missing the finals

Accident, bloody unlikely especially after Duckworth, Carey etc were also punching the suitcase out of Hunter and doing their infamous late spoils or when you could ride an opponent into the ground. They knocked us out of the Elim Final the week after, then they targeted Bernie Quinlan in the 1st Semi and tried to kill him. Robert Walls still isn't happy about the way that game was played. With those thugs plus Cameron Clayton, Merrett, Neagle etc running around you were always going to get cheap shots from the Bombers. Dustin Fletcher a mister gadget........ a modern day sniper is closer to the mark

I have no issue with a hard attack on the footy, but sheedy coached sides try to injure and maim the opposition - GWS wont be an issue tomorrow other than their more senior core group who will be out there to make a phyiscal presence

Sheedy will go down as an all time great as a coach - but he is a pr#ck of bloke and despises everything in the navy blue

The age old supporter battle... the club apologist v the pessimist  disclaimer (only relfecting on the posts, not the posters)

Seriously though, we are playing GWS... they are barely VFL standard at this point in time and we have named a very strong team.

A 10 goal+ win is what we need... some teams will play GWS & GC twice and percentage may come into play in August. I'm a big believer that injuries occur when you're mentally switched off and so need to play this game right out.

... I can see either Scotland or Murphy being subbed sometime in the 3rd if we're cruising.

Rexy, Getting the 4 pts week after week will make percentage irrelevant. If taking the foot of the gas or training real hard during the week holds us back a bit this week but prepares us for the saints game and the weeks that follow then that wouldn't be unprofessional.

Sheedy was always a flowering prick - it wasnt a Carlton -v- Essendon* game in those days unless Marcou, Sheldon or Glasscott was carried off on a stretcher, flower him.

Hated?

Sheedy is O.K. as for whatever we may think of him personally, his heart is in the right place where the game is concerned.
If nothing else I had a great time at the MCG waving my jacket when Essendon* beat WC in the 90s.

Yep. Like Zach Tuohy said the other week about Collingwood, I knew I hated him but I didn't know why.

My dad hated him with a passion and over the years I learnt why - which is basically all the reasons everyone here has outlined. Part of the reason why I hate Essendon* so much. That and sitting front row in the Ponsford at the 93 GF

I hate him too but l do know why.

As a young Carlton supporter in the late 60's and early 70's can clearly remember the white anklet wearing sniper clapping in Big John's face when he won a free kick and absolutely pissing his pants and back pedalling like the weak dog he is when a certain B.Doull took umbrage to this.

Have also heard the prick speak at a Trade show being interviewed by BT , l'm a plumber and he likes to think he still is , and make NO mistake he hates everything about Carlton.

Robert Walls in particular came in for a certain amount of derision with something along the lines of , " Well after all he's a school teacher and l'm a plumber."

Hate him ? Like no-one else in the VFL / AFL and l've been following the Blues for almost 50 years.

When interviewed for the Melbourne coaching job l didn't know what l wished for more ... him to be passed over which he was , or to be given the job and fail and to be unceremoniously dumped on his fat arse.

Whatever the result tomorrow, listen to the wank stain going on about us playing games with our omissions and recalls when over the years he's pulled off such classics as tieing down the wind sock at , l think Windy Hill , smuggling Shane Heard , another sniper of the highest order , over the boarder for an interstate game and his incoherent ramblings about
Martians and seagulls.

Did l mention l hate him ?

I was there at the 93 GF and any Carlton supporter that gets any pleasure at all from any success at all that this flowering flower gets in any capacity at all , and that includes joining in the jacket waving against the WC , should watch a replay of this match.

The a@#e wipe loves to go about the success he had in perservering with Kevin Walsh and Dean " The Rocket Scientist" Wallis ... you're an assistant coach Dean , you can't bet on the footy ....yet isn't so keen to reminisce about Doc Wheildon , Kepler Bradley or Courtney Johns who he also drafted.

I'm going now ... l think l need a lie down and a camomile tea.

No love in the papers today for Eddie's 150th game.

That's a good thing - focus on the basic and smash Sheedy's players to hell.
