Judd was rested throughout the preseason.
He played a few quarters before round 1...of practise games.
We showed no intensity in the preseason.

Does Judd need a rest?
Are some players carrying niggles like Yarran is?
If so rest them.

They've played 5 rounds.
The toughest game being the Magpies game where we gave our all, and the result shows.
There's an 8 day break between round 5 and 6.

For the same reason we can rest players for GWS in round 6 we can also rest players 3 weeks after that against Melb.
Then 3 games after that is the bye.
Then 4 weeks after that is the Bulldogs game.
Then 3 weeks after than is the Lions at home.
Then 3 weeks after that the Suns, just 2 weeks before the finals.

There's plenty of games to rest players...if need be.
I'll leave that to the MC, but imo it's a bit early in the season to rest fit players.

Hmmmmmmm. That is gonna be a season defining spell. Not looking forward to that!

Judd will rest for sure IMO. Also reckon Scotland, given his age, and Kreuzer, being a ruckman, will have a rest too. The rest should be ok bar injury. Yarran can slot back nicely and it's not bad having Warnock waiting in the wings either.

If a senior player gets injured on Sunday, I'd recommend not coming on here for a few weeks.

Heres an idea, if everyone at carlton is tired maybe they should just take the week off and field the bullants team. After all, 4 points are easy to come by, not to mention team cohesion.

Here's an idea, rest the entire side for the remainder of the season & just hand us the cup at the end

Come to think of it, was this the game Sticks was referring to when he famously said "we're Carlton, & @#$%&! the rest...."

It's not about being arrogant, it's about recognising the reality that playing GWS in their current state presents sides (particularly good sides like us) with an unusually high likelihood of victory. The comparisons to the Essendon* game and semi-final in 1994 are invalid because on those occasions, we were playing hardened and genuinely competent opposition - the Geelong game was against a side that went on to play in that year's grand final!

While GWS have shown signs and will only get better, let's be realistic, there is no chance of us not winning this game.

I'm sure that Judd does not "need" a rest in the sense that he could mentally and physically get himself up for this game without too much trouble. But at the same time, while he is not old, he is getting on a bit and playing him will necessitate his spending of more mental and physical energy in a game which we are going to comfortably win regardless of his presence. The other thing to consider is that we have another eight-day break following this game. The opportunity is there to give him a 17-day break between the Freo game and the St Kilda game on 14 May, which would allow him to really freshen himself up for the next block of games until our Bye in Round 13. Geelong have shown the importance of managing your team through a season and I think that it would be remiss of us not to follow suit.

And I expect (and would hope) that we will stagger players' rests over the course of the season (particularly in the games you mentioned) in the hope of keeping everyone as fresh as possible for the finals.

Funny you should mention %, with the potential goal output of our forward line (Waite, Walker, Betts, Garlett) plus the spread we are getting from our midfielders, this COULD be a huge potential for a massive boost.

My friend is a midfield coach for a VFL development side. They were playing the AIS.
The pre-game talk was to remember these are just kids, so tackle hard but no need to hurt them.
First 10 min the AIS scores 5 goals by spreading quickly and running hard.
The 1/4 time address was "Listen guys, forget what we said pre-game"

Did they end up winning?

Well I'm glad there's no arrogance involved.
(Just having fun Blues  )

Seriously though, they're not all kids. (I tried briefly to find an injury list for them but gave up).
Might actually be more "restful" to go full out and have them put away before half time.
Last thing we want is to take it easy and have a hard fought game.

Rest a few but do it tactically. It would be funny if the GWS' only win of the season came against a below full strength Carlton taking it easy. An undermanned Carlton having a poor game could easily do a convincing imitation of the worst of side in the competition.
