Last week Hendo and others got caught a bit tryng to create but they were better at it this week: as game went on Jamo & Hendo & JR & Duigan all got the pace of the game better and contributed more. Some good run and carry despite the absence of Yaz.
Lyon may be giving Freo a harder defensive edge but they won't get too far if he won't let them play: I thought we adjusted well to his choke-hold tactics and a special mention to Curnow, Armfield and then Robbo for just refusing to cave in to their intensity.
Think Walker's presence will help vary our delivery inside 50: remember last year early he was trying to outmark tall options but he learnt to pick his moments and the rest of the time got out on the lead more.
Walker & Betts - ditto to everything people have said.
Interesting how few free kicks paid in the ruck - a result of Jolly's complaints in the paper last week? That aspect of game well umpired.
Hampson has really improved this year (Ess game excepted): some very useful hard ball gets/handballs. Best of all, he is not being outmarked and is at very least bringing ball to ground.
Jeffie G - might be the week to give him a rest. He has been pretty poor the last 2 and Ibbotson was the key to getting them back into the game in the last 15 minutes.
I so wish Walker held that mark - there is no possible way that would have been beaten this year: he's got a ride up after jumping straight onto the shoulders of a bloke 200cms!
Such an important win.

More composure shown this week.

And I don't think it was necessarily Essendon* who caused our lack of it last week.

Garlett might have been a bit quiet this week but he was also one of only three multiple goal scorers for the match and both of his goals were something out of nothing at crucial points in the game.

You can't put a price on those sorts of moments in a match.

If you just looked at the score board (without the amount of rushed behinds especially in the wet) Brisbane had more scoring shots than Geelong :sly: :donk:

Garletts mere presence creates a headache for the opposition. He and Eddie a massive weapons for us up forward.

Very pleased to get the win. Love beating the WA teams, especially as I live in WA.

Even more pleased to see that Judd, Jeffy & Yarran all made the trip out to Kalgoorlie for a visit and to sign some autographs. Made some speeches to support Skilled's Indigineous Employment Program and then met more of the fans (from a variety of clubs).

Nice that they gave up their time to visit a regional centre in WA, and certainly won't hurt their support level out here.

Yep it makes you think.....................................4pts is 4pts at this time of the year and getting 4pts interstate with a number of injuries to core players is even better.

Supporters can go with the 'yeah but's' until the cows come home but in the end the 4pts are in the bank and we escaped without any more injuries.

Plus we have the chance to rest a couple this week and by the Saints game, Yazz will be right and a few others with niggles should be freshened up and good to go. Hopefully the Saints will meet a very, very angry Hawks next week.

Plus, Plus AW is back and flying. He looked like Black Caviar down the home straight whenever he was near the ball. Exhilarating stuff.

It all looks like a win, win, win to me because it also keeps us in contact with the Swans and Eagles.

Regards Cazzesman

abusing our players mainly ,

eg dont kick it to him , anyone but him

player x you are useless , do something

look at him , he is shit , what is he doing

that was crap

etc etc

was sickening listening to the vitriol towards our own players

i mentioned it elsewhere but highlight of the night was megan gale turning to the knob behind who had been abusing hampson for about 5 minutes straight when hammer marked and goaled - gave him the dirtiest look and said 'was that good enough for you' the moron was dumbfounded and yelled to his friends "oh my god is that megan gale.... i think thats megan gale - hahahaha" said loudly i better not say anything about hampson anymore

then continued to bag everyone else

you can see him in wookies video of the megan gale shot - clown in the jumper with the old monogram to the back right (thankfully im just off screen)

freo fans were generally good after the game, they are not enjoying ross lyon football at all - i was seated pretty far from them so was spared most of their crap thankfully during the game, they were better behaved than eagles fans though.

subiaco oval is still a disgrace, was about 40 degrees up where we were sitting all crammed in like sardines - less legroom and width in the seats than the worse airline carrier you could ever imagine - seating at the mcg is about twice as wide and 1.5x the legroom

Well that sucks. I actually don't care much for dealing with anyone at the football who has "issues", but when they're your own supporters ....

I haven't been to subi since the early nineties when it had the KFC on the hill. Sounds like it hasn't improved much.

It's a good point about game style. Obviously first and foremost we want to win and win #17, but the way Carlton play is something that
I take a supporters pride in. No one ever says we're boring to watch. In fact I reckon our game is the most exciting and watchable in the
competition. (Not that I'm biased at all. )

If someone said to me at the start of the night you can have an 8 point win I would have taken it. I don't see the WCE and Freo losing too many games at Subiaco this year.
Ross Lyon did everything in his power to make it as difficult as possible for us to play footy on our terms. He wanted as much congestion as possible around the ball and stoppage after stoppage so that we could not run. It was always going to be an ugly game but that was Lyons best chance of winning.
Good win considering all the circumstances.

I watched the 1st 1/4 again last night. Bruce was really barracking for Freo. Wonder whether he had put a sizable wager on them being the underdogs

I love Robbo to death, but why oh why do we put him up for interviews all the time?? :yikes:

I actually think he is refreshingly honest and gives a pretty unvarshined take on things. Seems to be growing into a good leader which is great given that he tends to set the tone for the rest in terms of our physical approach.

He did but I only wtached the 1st 1/4 last night. Without the stress of the result, the bias in the commentary was really evident.

Ch 7 is a big failure in AFL coverage. Every aspect. Camerawork, commentary, production. There isn't one thing they do well. Rohan Connolly takes a big whack at them today in the Age and rightly so. Thank God for Fox Footy.
