I think Bower is a bit stiff, but it seems they have really focussed on picking a team to play at Subiaco, against Fremantle.

Speed kills

It takes a good 30 players to get to the big dance at the end of the year so getting games into the other boys is not a bad thing.
Love the look of the side its quick i thought we were to tall and slow last week tbird a much better swing player love him up forward more though
good luck blues smash these purple pigs!!!

Thornton's ability to go forward has definitely sent him a game this week. I really doubt we will see Brock at afl level again unless we cop horrendous injuries.

Russell has every opportunity to take the game on here. With Laidler, Bower and especially Yarran out of the backline a lot of dash has gone. I know Armfield and Joseph are not slow but he is the senior player and I hope he just goes for broke.

Joseph to Ballayntine for sure. That is going to be great.

How Curnow gets a game ahead of Ellard and even McLean has me mystified? Two shit performances in a row. Anyhow, one must trust those in the know.

Anyone else concerned that 5 (possibly 6) changes may be too much from one week to another?

Side does look good on paper though...

In a game of 5 v 5 the 5 outs would beat the 5 ins. For this reason I'm not as confident in this 22 as I was last week. I also rate the dockers higher than the bombers. These 2 factors don't fill me with confidence. We need to lift and show we are true contenders. It's a test of character. Hopefully our boys show some. I think they will. Blues by 19

Bower unlucky but T-Bird adds flexibility. Need someone to shut down Hill, who won the game for Freo in the 2nd half last week.

We play well over there, and if we're "on" we'll win with Sandilands out. Blues by 13

Third time lucky for TBird
Last 2 tines he has played at Subi he has been polaxed

Maclean unlucky
Russell very lucky

Bower I thought would have been a good match up for Clarke

Freo 11 players 190 plus against the blues 7 players 190 plus

Freo has a tall midfield, Mundy, Fyfe, McPhee, Barlow, Mzungu etc. Outside of McPharlin they don't particularly have any talls that should scare us, now Sandilands in injured.

If we are switched on, our running capacity should destroy them, they are considerably slow in defence, hence the flooding under Lyon this season. Dawson will become Waite's step ladder again, Jeffie and Eddie need to play small and clean up the spillage.

Walker adds that missing dimension, aside from the Squid, we have our best forward line available now.

Very happy to see T-Bird back. I think he is best 22 and gives great flexibilty.

Ditto 1AW and Army.

Hope JR and AJ take their opportunity.

We still have a great side, which highlights our increasing depth.

We should account for the Fockers quite comfortably.

If he can rediscover his best form he will be a massive bonus for us. Was our best player against Freo when we played in Yellow a few years ago.

It's Perth, so probably about 28 degrees. It's 25 degrees right now (same time as kick off tomorrow). Forecast is for some cloud and moderate E/NE winds (so it won't be windy). Perfect weather for football.

Track always fast over here due to the sand (everywhere), but they were having issues with the grass at Subi leading up to the season, it looks a bit patchy in the games I have seen.

The boys would have enjoyed a swim down the beach today, was warm enough. Just hope they stayed away from the Noah's that like to feed down there every now and then!

McPhee is now a small defender who can play tall and small after taking Milne last week. Lyon said he will play on Betts like Hardingham and O'Brien who conceded at least four goals. Other than Mzungu, I don't see a great match up for Garlett. Johnson to Walker.

We need to respect Pavlich and Clarke. Clarke would smash Bower. Their second ruck is an athletic ruck and giant who can pluck a grab like Hampson. Henderson will have to get Pavlich with Jamison to Clarke and Thornton to Anthony. Jamo might lack the endurance to run with Pavlich. Duigan or Gibbs may have to play tall and pick up Mayne. Laidler might have been a good match up for Anthony or Mayne.

Their midfield isn't that fast with Barlow, Mundy, Duffield, Broughton, Crowley and Fyfe rolling through there. Their size could worry us. They knocked off Geelong at home. Should make for an entertaining match if Lyon tries to make it an ugly and low scoring game.

Feel a bit sorry for McLean ... not a huge fan of his, but one game is hardly enough to show anything.

Bower fair enough. Four games ... thought he's been ok, but it seems to me that the job description's changed.
They want someone in that role to be able to be switched forward. I didn't see anything from Bower in the forward
line that impressed me. Hope he gets some time up forward in the 2's because I still think he could be a very good
player.

Welcome back Tex!!
