Was there anything in it? I know Lonergen didn't get sighted but it was interesting how they are targeting O'Brien. Considering it was so early in the game, one wonders whether we owe them.

It was an aggressive, crude tackle but within the rules so nothing in it

There was nothing wrong with Lonergan's tackle on Carrots IMO.

He could make that tackle on another day and cause no injury.

It was just unfortunate for Carrots.

Move on, nothing to see here.

Just hope Andrew is back fit and firing again soon.

Where did the complaints about Carlton whinging about the tackle come from?

I didn't see any quotes other than Ratten saying it was a driving tackle and Malthouse calling it rank. I doubt that they would have a problem with the tackle. Waite broke Davey's arm with a similar hard tackle last year. Yet Wilson repeated that bulltish on FC after the media made a story out of it. Hardwick bitching about Geelong targeting Cotchin flew under the radar after Caro forces a defense. No one called Richmond soft after they didn't fight back to protect Cotchin.

It was crude. He could see that carrazzo hadnt won posession but he was in a good spot to rough him up with a drive tackle and took it sacrificing the free. He looked pretty chaufed with himself when he heard carrazzo screech in pain. It has been deemed within the rules (apart from a free) so we should all move on.

However, I am sure teams including Carlton took note that it is a good way to rough up a player and a good way to get a good player off the ground or just take out any player to reduce their numbers. Its open slather now. Wouldnt want to be a good targetted player this year (rule will change for next year).

I don't tune into rubbish shows like Footy Classified since Fox Footy came on because it is a show designed to take shots at everyone. It is utter garbage and it's funny now because with AFL360 and The Couch on before hand, ALL of the news is covered off by "arguably" better journalists and then FC basically re-use Fox's footage to provide more discussion. Those two shows get players and coaches on to interview. NOBODY wants to go on Footy Classified. Nobody wants to go on The Footy Show anymore either. How things have changed. Channel 9 is finished as a footballing station, though Sunday Footy Show is still reasonable chop.

The tweets by Essendon* players after the game would back that up.

I hope, when we play them next time, we are disciplined enough to not get sucked in with reports/suspensions ruining our top 4 chances. #justsayin'

Early in the game just trail watson to the ball. If it looks remotely like he is going to gain posession at some stage in the next 10 seconds just tackle him directly from behind, pin his arms lift your feet so all of your weight is comes down on top of him and drive him in one motion head first into the ground. Get him removed from the ground and possibly the finals if you can fracture his neck or something. All week you will be claimed as a tough player that bullied the bombers into submission and they will be seen as weak.............strange game.

It's not reportable so you can relax Rexy.

In all of this I am still staggered that Thomas got a three week ban for the injury Rohan copped. I'd argue that the Lonergan one had much more intent to hurt than Thomas who just looked liked he was going for the footy. I don't think either of them should have been reported -it's footy and injuries happen - but the inconsistency boggles the mind.

Not sure if there were others, and tbh that's not especially damning, but could def be construed as making a reference to Carrots, esp if they have been deleted.

Or if the intent was to target and injure Carrots during the game.

I loved murphys comment when asked his opinion on the carrazzo tackle, 'can't wait to play Essendon* next time.'

To see a tweet like that and see them taking enjoyment from putting a guy in career best form out for a couple of months makes me sick. I hope the boys stew on this for the next couple of months and next time we play them dish it back twice as hard. We cannot let teams dominate us. We need to make a statement next time we play them. It should have happened on saturday but it didn't. Why has no one physically dominated geelong or hawthorn in the last few years? Because they won't let it happen. We shouldn't either.

I am not one to wish harm on players but I would happily see Lonergan stretchered off with an injury twice as bad. I don't care if we cop a suspension as long as it's not in finals.

I feel the way I did after milburns hit on SOS. Hated the guy ever since.

By the way I'm going for collingwood tomorrow, probably for the first time in my life.

Just wait for the outcry when Mitch ploughs Cyrils head into the turf  the AFL couldnt move quick enough. People on here would bemoan how we had become thugs

meh... what was wrong with 'this time'... that tackle happened early enough for the players to fly the flag. A nothing comment

This... we need more mongrel... we need to make teams shit themselves
