The guy doesnt jump.. he doesnt need to.So he doesnt need to recover.
What StKilda did was rove to his tapping last night.
If he gets 70% of tappouts youre not going to rove to your 30% right?
Youll rove to him and thats exactly what we have to do.
He is also a legend footballer cos he runs to the half back flank and takes a mark from a kickout.
Or goes forward and takes a strong mark.
Either way the guy id their most importsnt player.

Barltow and Mundy didnt star in the clearances... but theyre coming good.Theyre moving well and just touch from being really good players again. Need to blow the cobwebs off.
I think teams give Ballentyne too much credibility .Just treat him like any other hack for Gods sake!
Hill showed signs.
They lack forwards without Fyffe and relying on the big Pavlova and Zac Clarke for some cameos.
Jack Anthony bagged a couple but it was on Simpkin who is just learning his trade.

You can bet the Lyon uber flood will be up next week.... something we have to work through.
Personally more defenders.. we need to have more midfielders as balance.

Clearances will be crucial.
StKilda squandered their chances.
The crowd helps them grow another leg so that needs to be hushed early.

Cant see much that can hurt us other than Sandilands and the flood.
Its another game we cant afford to drop if we want to make the four.

Good analysis synners though I don't think the season hinges on this game. Also think their defense has good rebound and Johnson and mcpharlin are agile and strong in the air so we need some more marking strength in the forward fifty. I'd bring in tbird and hope Kreuze and hammer bounce back

I'm actually looking forward to this game because I want to see how we bounce back. I think if we had managed to win yesterday then we'd be almost guaranteed to lose this game.

I would like to see Thornton and Joseph back in.

One guy I think needs a TAGHLAY is Gibbs. Is it just me or has he been super unimpressive this season?

Took a heap of uncontested against Collingwood as loose man, but really he should be as critical as Murphy and Judd given his calibre.

Reckon the coaches need to be using him better....

You might need to rewatch those earlier 3 games Tekno.

He was awesome against Collingwood in the +1 role. Impassable, won loads of contests and had great distribution that set up many an attack. Also top notch against the tigers and Bears. If we can get him playing like that everyweek we will be hard to beat. Not sure what was wrong with him yesterday. Disapointing. He wasnt helped by the gameplan falling down at the clearances and our team defence being a long way from being an "in your face" defence.

Number one we gotta be the hunters not the hunted. We gotta go at Freo like THEY are premiership favourites.Ferocity at the ball, and urgency to spread when we gain possesion..................i agree with the poster who said the run well from defence. They really do,and that is why forward line pressure is the key.Dont let 'em run it out easy.

Apart from this I think they were all intimidated and bullied.
Just like Hawthorn does to us.
It's not just about skill and run.
That extra bit that makes the final stage of strenght is between the ears and that includes not taking shit.
When you notice first/second year players pushing 100-200 you just know it's going to come back and bite you in the ass.

And hit Fyfe hard if he plays.

Couldn't find the 'media street' thread so....
(warning: I'm about to spit the dummy. If you are rant-averse, pls move on)

How many glorifying interviews did we have this week???
We used to just have to worry about Wallsy and Bombers in the media pumping us up before a big match (and they didn't let us down...) but this week there were features on Touhy, Murphy, Simpson, Gibbs was on the footy show and Judd on the Couch.

Yes, we do have to learn how to play with high expectations and some media adulation but this was ridiculous.
Also, Murphy this morning on AFL game day - and I love Murph - but he could afford to take it down a couple of notches. Both Buddy and Rioli have said recently that their best is ahead of them, the coaches are really helping them improve all the time etc...
Murph pretty quickly agreed that he's in career best form and this is b/c he's grown up and worked on a few things. Not terrible, but would it hurt to acknowledge his coaches, teammates or that he is still learning and trying to improve?
It is reasonably well known that the biggest change came after his teammates told him they thought he was a bit soft or picky about when to go or not...
Anyway, as I said, I love him and he clearly has a tougher attitude and (positive) meaner streak.
But this seems to be a symptom of our greatest weakness over the past couple of years - we tend to get ahead of ourselves.
I want to be able to win a flag... But then, like the best teams, go on to win two or three.
We should pay more attention to geelong's attitude over the past few years.

Ok, I feel a bit better now.

I agree.
The Cats were similar odds to beat North yet didn't back up after their brave comeback win against the Hawks (admittedly they only had a 6 day turnaround). Today North were unimpressive against an understrength Swans after a big upset against the Cats.
Not making excuses for our weak performance however it seems the playing group were emotionally set for the Collingwood game whilst last week Essendon* had their minds set on playing us when putting in a sub-par perfomance against the Suns.

Whenever we don't do media people criticise the club for not getting ourselves out there though. I don't think we had had any players appear on any of the footy shows so far this year until this week.

Hawthorn also should have beaten Geelong the week after beating Collingwood, and Freo were pretty average against Sydney the week after beating Geelong...seems a lot of teams struggle the week after a big game.

I think Mark Murphy was on the footy show earlier this year.

Pay the first two.

Based on the posts of yours I've read you don't seem like the sort of "supporter" who jumps off the bandwagon after a
defeat, so I'm probably just misinterpreting your initial comment.

For what it's worth I think we're going to come out hungry. Three easy wins and an Essendon* that was supposedly just resting up
for Anzac Day and I think we were caught napping. And a bit of bad luck. (And whilst the umps were ok ... man that
Kruezer "play-on ... holding-the-ball annoyed me).

Anyway, I'm sure you'll be there and in good voice so good luck to you and the team.

we'll win by 18 points:
ps everyone needs to settle down!!

(easter 2010) Carlton has become the first team to beat Geelong twice since the Cats began their dominance of the AFL competition in early 2007 to complete an Anzac Round full of upsets on Monday.

After Melbourne and Port Adelaide had inflicted the first defeats in 2010 upon Brisbane and St Kilda earlier in the round, the Blues produced arguably an even bigger upset on Monday by downing the all-conquering Cats 15.14 (104) to 9.14 (68) in front of 71,000 at the MCG.

It was only the Cats' ninth loss in their past 75 matches.

And the Blues, who also handed the Cats' their previous MCG defeat in Round 19 last season, now have the honour of being the first club to defeat Mark Thompson's team twice during that period with their other seven losses having been at the hands of Fremantle (earlier this season), St Kilda, Brisbane, Carlton and the Bulldogs last year, Collingwood and Hawthorn in 2008 and Port Adelaide late in 2007.

It is a remarkable achievement from a new-look Blues' side in the post Brendan Fevola era and comes just a fortnight after the club was roundly criticised for an insipid loss to lowly Essendon*

If we are genuine contenders, surely we will win this comfortably. They have a really good coach. They have Pav and Sandialnads (under an inj cloud). Fyfe has a broken shoulder and Hill is very promsiing but still young. Mundy is underdone, the rest are battlers. If they beat us then it is a very bad loss. And why we needed a 'wake up call' is beyond me. We have won one final in four attempts over the last three years. This year we have beaten two easybeats and Collingwood who didn't turn up. If we got ahead of ourselves based on that then the coaches must have serious communication problems or the players must be airheads. Get ahead of yourselves when you win a flag or two. Not when you win three games. The Dons were in our face yesterday. Other sides think we are a bit soft. We need to disprove that, not occassionally but every week. This should be a comfortable victory ag mediocre opposition getting used to a new coach.
