Hard to see us winning this, especially with the Outs for next week. The probable return of Ellard & co. is hardly inspiring any confidence either

No one to stop Hill running amok off half back either, and without Yarran, a lot will be left to Thouy for any run off HB.

AJ will be in as a definite.

JR's size will be handy across half back.

Walker? Maybe leave him until the GWS game.

Ellard has to come in, Brock just can't run defensively and they'll exploit him like the Bombers did.

I actually think we're more a chance after today's result. We won't play without the required intensity next week, you can bet on that.

Lose and we're 3-2, exactly where I had us prior to the season starting.

Thornton, Ellard, Armfield all back?

Joseph? Need a tagger.

Carrots may be the only one to miss. The rest played out the game until the coaching box called time on our comeback. Bringing Ellard back this early is a risk IMO, and Armfield should not be rushed if there is still decent swelling around his knee.

Thornton would be a welcome addition to the forward setup in lieu of Walker (which is how it should be if we're being sensible), but the most important thing is to fix the disruption we've created in the back six.

Duigan needs to have a legitimate matchup or he is a liability until he is 100% fit and in form. Bower is not a forward; all of his instincts and attributes make him a fantastic CHB. Henderson is capable of being reliable at both ends, as is Laidler, and I'm glad we made the switch in the second half to Laidler up forward and Bower to defence.

We need to re-jig the current make-up of the side so that we are able to eliminate the reliance on Waite, who was getting run ragged by the shoddy delivery he was receiving and the fact the he was at times the only avenue through true CHF and the forward flanks.

Bring in Thornton, send Henderson forward and consider resting a player to inject someone like Kerr into the team. Have those three names pushing high up off HF as an outlet for our runners to receive from and we will open them right up. The defence will be fine with Laidler, Bower & Jamison manning the talls.

This week was an example of when Lachie should be sent forward; without being terrible he was poor in the 50/50s and he could have changed the dynamic up forward with his height and instincts for reacting to the play in an environment where his opponent has to pay him more mind than vice versa.

Throw in McLean.

Completely biased opinion noted. I was surrounded by people at the game who were giving McLean and Bower a bake, regularly when they had nothing to do with the play, such was their belief all mistakes came from them.

We got handed a lesson today by Essendon*. Some of the earlier comments in this thread show how far we all got ahead of ourselves.

It will be a great test of our grit and determination next week. Mightn't be a bad idea to head to Perth a day earlier and get out of the bubble, I reckon.

Don't agree. Cards didn't fall our way today and we switched off. That'll switch us back on, and we shouldn't wind up with 4 injuries on the day again.

This is still a game we should be winning, at a ground which suits us.

Today we fell down on intensity.
Our decision making was appauling and skill level faulty, especially goal shooting.
Our main structural fault was that Waite got most of his possessions on the wing and away from goal.
We needed him closer to goal for his marking strength or another marking forward.
With all the flooding we needed to go high or break the lines with run.
We failed miserably as we didn't have the marking power from our tall's or the support from the rest.

Funnily enough I feel more confident about this week having lost today than if we'd won.

Unless McLean plays at subi....

Two of Robbo, Judd or Murphy to play a half only through the sub position.

Bit of bruising on his toe wasn't it? He was brought back into the mix and they only pulled him out of the game in the last 5 or 10 minutes.

From what i have heard several players and coaches saying we are looking at resting some players against GWS in 2 weeks time. Maybe next week we should rest them instead, Judd especially, and concentrate on a big percentage boost against GWS. Just a thought.

Hope Robinson tackles Fyfe in a similar fashion to Lonergan.

All's fair if Essendon* can do it.

We'll know if we're up from the first bounce.

Hope the club has extra security on hand for the live broadcast at Visy Park.

Ratten says Laidler n Yazz should be ok. Carrots out for 6-8 weeks. Curnow I'm not sure but frankly I prefer Ellard whose quicker n a better kick.
Team need to be more consistent with their intent. Today was a backward step but not devastating
Our midfield need to get nastier. I raised this pre season. It's still a problem.

Bower? Stiff IMHO

Bower sheets himself under pressure just kicks blindly
And has no idea how to play fwd
Can't understand why TBird got dropped unless it was to give PB some games n try n extract some form n confidence from the lad
