I think I'd prefer giving our hard runners (Judd, Murph, Simmo, etc) less T.O.G. against the bottom sides rather than resting them completely for these games.

Perhaps we should rest our talls instead and bring in extra runners and increase rotations.

I think week to week continuity and match fitness for our mids is important to their consistency.

Thoughts.

It's already started. Juddy only had 75% TOG on Friday night.

We play GWS in a few weeks I would like them to experiment with Warnock Hammer and Kruezer in the same side
I would also like to see Brocky get a run and maybe Collins

Judd to sit out and maybe Waite

Juddy said on the radio yesterday that he was not against taking a break every 6 weeks. It would seem we will be resting players when needed.

It is Juddy's call to say if he should be rested for a game? He had worn himself/his body out by the end of last season. Probably cost us against West Coast. Leave it to the brains trust. Ratts has said he is going to use the Geelong model from last year and they did okay.

I posted in the Talking Players thread that if you rest Judd against just GWS and Gold Coast that's a break roughly every six weeks (including mid season bye). I think having a regular break would be more beneficial in terms of managing training loads etc.

It's going to be interesting to see the line ups for our games against GWS and Melbourne.

I wouldn't be surprised if Judd doesn't travel to WA for the Freo game in Rd 5. Short week, interstate travel. I know Freo will be tough to beat at home, but we should take a 'big picture' approach. He might also be rested from another interstate game in Rd 22 vs Gold Coast.

We've got 3 games in a row at Etihad in Rds 6-8 so I wouldn't be surprised if we rest a player in each of those games (maybe Murphy? Waite? Kreuzer?). Rd 10 vs Port in SA is another interstate game I could see us resting a player (Yarran? Robbo?).

Good call SB. You could also add Ellard and Joseph to cover any midfielders needing a rest. Maybe Rowe for Waite? Promote Dale?
This approach has real value and adds a lot of interest.

Pretty sure the Blues will be on this sort of thing this year. Not too many decisions they have made so far have not worked.

Cant see them slipping up and playing blokes into the ground this year.

Prefer Kreuzer to be rested for Warnock.

Ellard in for Murphy

McLean in for Curnow

Walker for Judd

T-Bird for Waite

Russell for Laidler

AJ for Yarran

Dale for Simmo

Collins for Garlett

Ok maybe going a bit far, but I still think we would win comfortably against GWS with the above changes.

Should have rested Murph or Judd as the substituted player on Friday night Instead of a bloke who's already had limited game time being a sub.......Need to take every opportunity to rest the guns not the foot soldiers

Lucas has a history of breaking down, so perhaps the MC thought they would take the opportunity to rest him.

Maybe too far, but what a brilliant illustration of our depth at the moment.

Stuff around with form and a balanced team and you can get your pants pulled down or at least play yourself out of form.

Maybe there would be an argument for Juddy starting as sub in one of the matches but I reckon there's be a mutiny if you wanted to rest a few.

As an aside, how would it be Judd or Murph lost the Brownlow by a vote and they had been made to sit out the easiest game of the year?

Who gives a $hit about the brownlow, been there done that. It's premierships we want now.

Appears the internal motto is "ruthless", that should extend to every aspect....

@abns, fair point about sugar but at the end of he day he's a foot soldier at this point in his career. It's the guns we need to get to the last sat in September, one and all of them.

Agreed. We need to rest players against GWS, have to! It makes perfect sense to. We want to be cherry ripe for finals time.

We won't be resting players just against GWS. It will be on a "need to" basis.

Just remember that Ratten has already stated that we're geared up to peak at the right end of the year.
With a good start to the season on the cards, we may just be in the right position to take best advantage of that. (See Geelong 2011)

As long as we keep on winning then percentage won't come into it.

But would hate to drop a spot or 2 due to the percentage being lower as we didn't smash a GWS or Gold Coast by 100+ because we rested blokes.

I'd prefer to give the big blokes a rest like Kreuzer, Hampson, Waite, Henderson if anything.
