Just curious about the best and fairest awards.

Currently the John Nichols medal is awarded to the best and fairest player as voted on by a panel. Is there an award voted on by the fans?

The club website and email updates allow you to submit votes after the end of each round listing the best 3 players for the round, what actually happens to these votes?

Is there a "fans" player or "as voted by the members" award?

If not I think there should be. I think we should create a login on the Club website and if you enter in your membership number/login (to prevent spurious voting) then submit the votes from 1-5 (currently only 3) after each round and an award given at the end of each year.

Thoughts?

That's wonderful Synbad...no really.

Now to the actual topic.

What's the deal? I'm assuming we don't currently have any "as voted by the fans" award?

I reckon that is a great idea spf.

It would not be too difficult for the guys on the website to setup I imagine.

I will let the communications department know about this thread and see what they think.

I agree Jarusa.

Due to "over-excitement" at last years awards, I can't actually remember what the actual awards are

the carlton even standard of cold smoked salmon thast been sitting out for three hours followed by chicken with an inedible cream sauce with green stuff in it with cake - which gets left on the table whilst everyone tries to manhandle the players....

how close do you think I am???

Isn't there already a poll of sorts on there?

I wonder if it would be worth considering making access available via membership number to weed out the cowbowys. Although, it would probably be just as counter productive, in some ways, as leaving the poll open to anyone.

spf suggests voting should be restricted by using a membership number.

I think this is sensible.

It would be an extra incentive to get a membership (contributing to the people's choice B&F).

It would probably encourage more people to actually go to the B&F night.

Creates more hits for the website with members logging in each week to give their votes.

Sound like a winner to me.

Yes exactly this was what I was kind of thinking of. At the moment there is a poll but what exactly happens to this collection at the end of the year? At the moment nothing as I understand it.

I'd like to see this happen and make it a voting system much like we used to use on TBV with votes 1-5 as I reckon it gives a clearer picture of what the fans really think and where they think the side is at.

For instance I think the current poll on CFC is pretty accurate for the first 3 but I'd really doubt the remaining order.

I think Jarusa is bang on the money that it could raise attendances for the B&F night and heck why not also introduce on the same page a option for voting for "best young player" which could be age limited to let's say players 18-21, a bit like the past players encouragement award but as voted by the fans.

I don't know what other clubs do but I think this would add something to the night and allow people from all over the country to participate in the Carlton Football Club even if they rarely get to games.

I know there USED to be a weekly poll on the matches where members got to vote, and it required your membership number to get to the voting page. that was a couple of years back now. Add to that the problem of the webpage itself being very unreliable, and not being kept up-to-date.

Good idea though, i'd be in it.

Got any thoughts on a name for the award, spf?

Not sure about a name actually. What about after a famous fan or person who contributed to the club (eg: Non player and administrator)?.

The best young player award could be named after a past player, does Peter Motley have an award named after him? Could have been an out and out champion etc but cut down in his prime, would this be fitting or even proper?

What do you all think?

They ran an article on the cfc website today with regards to the 'peoples poll' they currently employ:
