Did you actually watch the video of those 2 goals?

1st. JR got pinged for hands in the back in a marking contest. 60/40 but I guess it was there. Not the 1st and wont be the last defender to get done that way. Such is life.

2nd. JR saw that the other Blues defender was out of position in a marking contest against Richmond's Jackson so he went into the marking contest to spoil. Jackson got a hand up and the ball popped off Jackson's hand over the back to Cotchin who had stayed down when JR flew to spoil. Missed by a hairs breath on affecting the spoil.

It is a game of inches and JR was just short.

Aside from those 2 incidents JR kept his other opponents quiet. Edwards did nothing. Nahas virtually zip. Sure JR didn't get much of the ball himself but it is not as if he was toweled six ways from Sunday by every opponent he stood.

Regards Cazzesman

Don't get me wrong Caz I'm a fan of JR he just seems to be in a bad spot at the moment and tiny errors of judgement seem to come back to haunt him. He isn't having the impact on games he was having 2 years ago I hope he starts to impose himself again but at the moment his mistakes are hurting

Fact is there are at least 3 guys out of the side who are automatic selections (walker jamo and duigan) and someone will have to make way when they are fit. Based on pre season and Thursday night, JR would have to be the first dropped.

At the moment, I'd consider it four (Warnock).

Agree here... bring in Jamo this week if he is fit to play.... we need him to have a run under his belt before the Pies... Jamo at 60 % is better than JR at 110 %

I would rather Jamo and Duigan be set up for the season than hurry them back for the Collingwood game.

Obviously we all want Jamo back in the side ASAP, but he has a history of breaking down. If he pulled up well after Saturday's VFL game and the fitness/medical staff say he's ready to play a full AFL match, he'll play on Thursday night. Otherwise I'm happy for the club to hold him back until he's 100% ready. Given the VFL team has a Bye this week, he may play Rounds 3 & 4 in the VFL and not return to Carlton until Round 5 (vs Freo). If that sets him up better for the year ahead and means he's more likely to last the season out, I would rather they did that.

That does put pressure on Laidler, Bower and Hendo (with T-Bird as back up) over the next few weeks - but it should be a good opportunity for them, especially Bower who is looking to revive his AFL career. It might also give us a chance to blood McCarthy for a game or two.

I'm not sure there's the same rush to get Duigan into the team. He's a good player, and PROBABLY in our best 22. But I'd be happy for him to run into some form/fitness in the VFL and work for his spot back in the side. In the meantime, it gives the likes of JR, Tuohy, Lucas and Armfield a chance to show what they can do this year.

I wouldn't have thought they would play Kreuz, Hammer and Warnock all together. With Hampson hitting his straps Warnock is far from guaranteed a spot. He'd have to find form in the VFL and would need either an injury or a drop in form from Hampson. Kreuz is abviously a lock.

I think Hampson is playing Kreuze's role who is playing Warnock's role.

If they see Kreuze's output as an additional midfielder is too much of a loss by playing him forward most of the time, then I agree, Warnock works for his spot. Warnock playing forward just doesn't work.

If the equation is purely Hampson's forward work vs. Warnock as a tap ruckman, I'd take Warnock every day of the week. See: Elimination final.

AFL_JasonPhelan Interesting selection for @Carlton_FC. Ratten says super sub Lucas def stays. Jamo & Duigan close. I'd tip Jamo 1 more wk & Duigan to play.

Carlton nears full strength

Jamo and Duigan were playing at exactly the same time as the whole entire Brisbane Lions side was

So the 5 day turn around thing is a pile of bunk

they are either fit or they are not

Makes sense to me.
Jamisons fitness base may not have been as good as others in as far as that he didn't have a full pre-season behind him, yet he lasted 4 quarters in the VFL and Duigan only three.

If Jamison has indeed pulled up well, then he plays as you'd think we'd like to give ourselves the best chance to beat Collingwood the week after.

Personally I would not play either this week against Brisbane and possibly bring in Davies or Collins for JR.

Give Jamo and Duigan another game at the Northern Blues at least. It is a long season and I would rather see them come in when they are fully ready.

As for Walker, he is naturally fit but it is an injury you need to be conservative with. Should be given 3-4 weeks to get injury right.

well the Ants don't play this week - So that would rule them out for the Pies game and not back until round 4 or 5

A short week can matter to a player coming back fom injury. It depends how they pulled up after Saturday's VFL game. If they pulled up a bit sore (which is on the cards after first game back from injury), the extra couple of days does make a difference.

Perhaps the plan all along was to give Jamo a good hit out in Saturday's VFL game (he must have had close to 80% TOG), monitor his back over the next fortnight, and if OK then give him another game or two in the VFL and bring him back to the Carlton side primed for Round 4 or 5.

Then again, maybe they think he's ready to come back now. Given the position he plays, maybe the short week might not matter quite as much - but it depends how his body is feeling after Saturday's hit out. There's also the lesser point of whether or not the club thinks he should be flying interstate with a suspect back.

This is where the medicos & fitness staff earn their cash

Jarrad Waite cleared on report against Dylan Grimes. Panel said Waite had no real alternative way to contest the ball.

Right decision re: Waite.

Can all the people who potted him for 'stupidity' or lack of discipline etc. apologise?

I apologise - still reckon he was lucky last year with that back kick in the first round and needs to be more disciplined generally

This incident had nothing to do with discipline. It was good hard attack on the footy that I expect from all out players and should never have had a case to answer
