I won't be surprised if they win either, but expect it would be more a case of we cock it up, like we toyed with last year.

I held these chicken little thoughts before the Mickey Mouse Geelong game too.

I think it'll be a draw.

It'll be one of those games where it's close til about the 20 min mark of the final qtr, then we'll bang on some late goals to put it beyond doubt.

Carlton by 285 points

However it's not inconceivable that if their 1st unit midfied gets on top of ours and if Jamo doesn't come up and Riewoldt collars Hendo they could have a night out. They are up and running, we are clearly not - Rd1 is the sort of time when weird things happen (Hello Adelaide vs Hawthorn last year).

That's the risk to be run when different preseason approaches meet early on.

They're in a similar boat to Essendon* who hit the ground running after a good NAB Cup, only to fade away after losing Watson. There's always a shock result, so I wouldn't put it past the Tigers to sneak home in a close one. Even Geelong lost to Essendon* in round 15.

TC will be a must read if we lose.

If you think Richmond will get up, put some coin on them now, because Centrebet have the Blues home by about 4 goals, and will pay you a handsome 3.50 for the Tigers to get up.

I think backline deficiencies withstanding, our midfield and forward structure could tear them apart.

I think we are a bit underdone ... our best players should have had 2 games together just to get in sync. I watched Richmond V Geelong ... it was at Geelong and they had some pretty good players in. I could not help being impressed by the way Richmond destroyed them ... and I really believe we will struggle in round 1. If we were playing them in 5 weeks ... I would be betting on Carlton. Not happy ... can't stand the Tigers ... goes right back to 1973.

I can see that. Although the game plan hasn't gone through a radical transformation like Essendon* did last year, which contributed to them fading (losing Winderlich and Dempsey hurt them as much in that regard as Watson, IMHO, because of the run they provided to an otherwise slow unit). As much as I like Richmond's top line talent, and I do, like most teams in the early days of an upward trajectory they have little quality depth. So if a couple of key players go missing, they'll struggle mightily to cope.

And yeah if Carlton lose Rd 1 I will be staying away until Rd 5 or 6. Possibly the bye.

Their backline is weak. Eddie and Jeffy regularly cut them up, not to mention Waite.
Their forwardline apart from Riewoldt/Vickery isn't that great either.
Their midfield is good, but not as good as ours.

No reason we should lose.

Edit: Damn typo

No Walker, Jamison, Warnock, Laidler, Robinson.

A less than ideal preparation for Judd, Ellard and one or two others.

Blues by 92....remember - this bloke is one of their best players...

I'd almost forgotten that Ten clip... you know it was scripted but it remains hilarious.

If we are aiming for a GF then we should win this, whether we have injuries or not.

We need to dominate & trust our depth - play as a unit.
Otherwise we may as well go back to scratch.

Blues by 3 goals

Last year we had no Jamo, Hendo and Bower instead White and T-Bird as key defenders. Laidler, Yarran and Duigan were playing there first game in defence for us.

Waite went down concussed leaving us with Hammer forward as the only key forward for most of the game.

We were down by around 3 goals with 15mins left and won.

I'm confident this year we'll have a stronger team on the field to lead us to victory, although a Tigers win isn't too far away, they are building a good team.

Grigg's kicking gave me nightmares when he was at Carlton.

Last year round one he was finally kicking to a Carlton player

They can win it. No doubt.
Our back six is minus Jamo and Laidler, the best two of them. Duigan is doubtful. Our defence will need to be on top because we know Reiwoldt and Vickery can kick goals and will.
The midfield is interesting. We have the better midfield but that doesn't mean they can't win clearances if they get their hands on it. Martin would get a game with us any day as would Cotchin and Deledio. The rest maybe not but they are solid.
Maric is an unknown. he has said he will play bash and crash. That's fine but if he manages to bash and crash a few hitouts as well, he will give his mids a show. Kreuzer is a much better player but tapwork isn't his forte either.
Our small forwards are probably the best in the comp but FF is not set in concrete and now Walker may be doubtful and Collins isn't going to have the same impact if he plays there. Waite is underdone in any language.
In order to win, we will have to win the contested ball at the stoppages and run the footy or kick long to create the space for the small forwards to use.
And we have to start kicking straight. A score of 3-14 at half time is not acceptable this year. It wasn't last year either but we managed scores similar to it several times.
I hate Round One even though we usually win.
