What about 2004 or 5 against the Saints when Fev line up on the G train at full back. That game made me physically ill. We were never ever in the contest and lost by 100+. I think we were 8 0r 9 goals down at quarter time.

Rd 20 2000 was a dark day. Not so much because of the loss (to the Scum) but because Kouta did his knee. Might have cost Kouta a Brownlow and possibly us a flag.

vs St Kilda @ Waverley in '95 was awful too. Horrible Waverley weather, Hanna got knocked out by Rod Keogh and we only kicked 2 or 3 goals for the game (only had 1 til 3/4 time I think). '95 was a dream season, but that day was nightmare.

Going out in straight sets in 1996 with 2 interstate thrashings was ordinary too. The night final at the Gabba that year was one of the worst performances by a Carlton side in a final that I can recall.

- The finals losses to Melbourne in 1994 and 2000 were pretty shattering So was the '94 Finals loss to the Cats when their 3 best mids didnt play (which made us raging hot favourites to win) and we still got belted.
- The countless humiliating thumpings under the Dark Lord Denis Pagan's reign. I mean seriously, some of those losses were as bad as I ve ever seen any side play ever and that includes Fitzroy in their dieing days.
- The Fev hitting the post game against the Hawks in 2009, when prior to his shot, we d miraculously kicked 4 goals in last 4 minutes or somethig like that to come back from the dead, only for Fev, who d had a blinder and been kicking like a dead eye dick all day, to miss from virtually right in front and cost us the game.
- A loss against the Bummers in about 1998 i think it was, when we were just under 5 goals up with 5 minutes to go, only to see them kick 4 quick goals to get back in it, and SOS to kick the ball straight to Scott Lucas from a kick in to give them their 5 th goal in the last 5 minutes of the game and a comeback win out of nowhere.

Apart from the finals losses for me it 2 losses against the Hawks standout:

1. The Ben Dixon goal after the siren when we should have iced the game and i believe we kicked the ball out on the full to turn it over and they kicked it to Dixon. The reason it stands out was i was with about 6-8 Hawks supporters and they still remind me about Sandy Roberts commentary as Dixon kicked the goal "Dixon kicks the goal and Hawthorn wins the game"

2. The Fev miss. Never have I felt as high a high and then a low as low in such a quick time. When Fev took the mark and was lining up I was celebrating as we had come from nowhere and then the ball looked in until that wicked fade. Had to go to the pub after the game with my Hawks mate and had to watch the last qtr again as it was on delay on the telly. When the pub started singing the Hawks theme song that was it for me.

I think what makes this thread interesting is that everyone has mentioned most finals losses no one has mentioned the 99 Grand final. I know it is because we beat the Bombers who were unbeatable that year by 1 point so i guess that was our GF win.

Anyone mention the Fog game at the Junction Oval St Kilda in 1971 against Fitzroy? Cost us the flag. If memory serves me correctly, we'd beaten the Hawks the week before at Glenferrie(not an easy task). We then played Fitzroy needing to win the game and then beat Collingwood in the last game of the year to make the finals. After the Dawks game we'd rediscovered our mojo from '70. Anyway, at half time the thickest fog I have ever seen descended on the ground and even though I was standing at the Fitroy Street end forward pocket, you could hardly see beyond the goal square. Bizarre. We lost and therefore missed the finals. My memory also is that we played the Pies at home the next week and they were well ahead at half time. They lost. 1970 was still haunting them.
ps: my memory might be flawed about all this as I spent a lot of time in pubs close to the Junction in the 80's.

The 1988 Prelim Final loss against Melbourne was pretty damn demoralizing.

R 3 2004 & to quote The Blueseum

Quote:
The Blues seemed headed for a narrow victory against the Kangaroos. But a controversial out-of-bounds on the full penalty against Ryan Houlihan, with just eight seconds to go, would enable Roo Daniel Wells to goal from the resultant free kick from outside 50 metres and result in a 5 point win to his team. The ball was ruled as having struck Houlihan's heel on the full but replays were inconclusive

The Kruezer cup game was the most disgraceful football game i have ever witnessed. Glorified circle work and i left at half time.
