Actually good on Barry Humphries and Crown for seriously @#$%&! the footy club. I presume they both get a large chunk of that change?

$750 for canapes, wine and Dame Edna? Bit rich. Alienates the average supporter from the season launch - which has always been a pretty good night. Meanwhile, Collingwood are combining their Season Launch with the Hall of Fame Dinner. A three course gourmet meal, premium beers and wine, entertainment...cost? $175 per person.

You're kidding, right?!?! You seriously think it's the average supporter who goes to the season launch? Whether it's $175, $250 or $750 - the average Joe Blue, who buys a membership for himself and perhaps his family, maybe buys some reserve seats as well, he's the average suppporter. And I guarantee that 99% of these average supporters, do not go to a season launch.

The season launch is a corporate thing!!! Don't try & twist this into a story about the club losing touch with its supporter base.

Have been to a few over the years Luca. It's never been $750! And you're wrong...plenty of average Joe supporters attend. Or at least they did!

So if you can sell them all at a price of $750, you shouldn't?

You just shouldn't make people watch Dame Edna.

But Dame Edna has promoted Carlton talent since 1979...

lol
if the club want the club to go forward by mostly promoting themselves to the ever evaporating pool of money bags supporters they are seriously living in bubbleland .

Dane? the event is about profit and the club including members not about turnover!

there are reasons why we need Pratt and Bruce!
because the gatekeepers are acting like security at the front door of a nightclub .

You make more money running a noodle bar than you do a 2-star restaurant.

Why? because low-cost, high-turnover is where the profits are.

Not only that, but as Doc and Synbad and others have pointed out, inclusivity is far more powerful than exclusivity. I just don't understand a $750 season launch. I'd rather get 2000 people at a hundred and fifty a head, than 400 people at 750.

The overheads will eat up a lot of that 750 anyway. And you've missed an opportunity to let people IN, rather than keep people out.

Agree with most here; they've decided they don't like dealing with the average supporter who put a little money aside to attend these functions (and they do luca, I know a few), and are playing a numbers game to see if they can generate the same profit while generating (in theory) a hot bed of investment opportunities.

It won't work how they think it will, and it'll alienate so many more. You host these kind of things on the side, like Pratt did with his open house efforts at Raheen. You cannot be a silvertail club so openly in this day and age. A football club that targets high net worth individuals...

Jump on the Bays band wagon. Season launch including a 3 course meal = $60...

A price like that says to me "If you can't afford $750 then you're not important enough to be included in the season launch".

I'm actually shocked there's anyone out there prepared to pay close to a thousand dollars to see Dame Edna.

Now, if it was Sir Les Patterson reprising John Elliot... I might consider it.

There's a few conferences coming up that feature keynote speakers talking about how sporting clubs can develop new markets through social media, build revenue through social media and integrate social media and traditional media for greater benefit...I was thinking these insights tied into a presentation on 'The Future Of AFL Club Media' might be of benefit to the club...until I saw the keynote speaker...

Three of these things belong together
Three of these things are kind of the same
Can you guess which one of these doesn't belong here?
