Nothing makes you happy in life does it Synbad ??

Don't blow a gasket Sugarcane.
When we have presented our opinions/arguement time and time again but some one doesn't seem to register for his own personal gratification we should just move on.

What we need are more hbf's, should be our slogan for 2012.

most of those you mentioned are periphery mid field players.

Curnow was virtually leading the B&F as a inside mid before he went down - periphery?

Ellard periphery? I don't think Riley shares your pessimism mate

You don't think Gibbs will be able to win clearances??

OK so we have 2 midfields + some otehrs bubbling under with Ellard, Robbo, Curnow recently becoming inside mids, and with Gibbs likely to win clearacnes coming in in 2012, and we haven't done enough in the last 1-2 years on thsi front??

Oh Synbad, you're taking the piss right??

You seem to think it is easy to find players, like we should be able to flick the switch and find half a dozen Sam Mitchell's in one off seasons, hilarious

Club have done bloody well to triple the size of the midfield in about 3 yrs, you should be pleased

Inside Mids – Judd, Murphy, Curnow (added in 2011), Ellard (Came on in 2011), Robinson (Came on in 2011)
Clearance Winners – Judd, Murphy (Came on in 2011), possibly Gibbs (to come in in 2012)
Taggers – Carrazzo, Armfield (Came on in 2011)
Outside Ball Carrying Mids – Simpson, Yarran (to come in in 2012)
Defensive Wingers – Scotland

Looks like we have some balance there
Look Synbad I also saw against the top sides we struggled to win clearances, with an over reliance on Judd, but I also think Curnow, Robinson and Ellard have been good additions to the inside midfield group, and think Gibbs could become a clearance winner, and think Yarran could become a terrific ball carrying wingman. All these changes have occurred in the past 12-24 months. I don’t think we could have seen a more rapid change to the midfield make up in such time, so I think you should be pleased to be quite frank.
You also need to consider we have had young rucks the past few years, and so once these rucks develop into genuine hard rucks it stands to reason it should be easier for our mids to win clearances. Part of the reason we get slaughtered on ball against the likes of Coll and WC is we are going up against the likes of Jolly and Cox and Nic Nat.
Maybe we will poach Kennedy from Syd at the end of the year – if we do that will you be happy ??

I have a novel idea

Synbad you seem to be fixated with Dermies call last year that our midfield doesn't bat ddep enough, and the Hawth midfield bats deeper

Can you list their midfield batting line up then?

(not taking the piss, I actually want to see how the 2 stack up)

The way I see it, they unearthed a couple of good young mid prospects last year but I reckon we have unearthed some too

Maybe their midfield has more attitude than hours, and that's a separate arguement altogether - I actually subscribe to the theory the lieks of Gibbs and Yarran need to harden up

Sugarcane probably hit the nail on the head. 'attitude'. Remember the bastard coaching the hawks. One thing you have to say for him, he has the right take no prisoners attitude.

But if Curnow can get his form back before injury, Robertson keep scaring everybody, then add Murphy who continues to bulk up and old man Juddy, then there is 4 into the starting 3 who are at least as good as any in the league. Add Ellard, Gibbs, etc and even Eddie Betts who is underrated as a clearance player.

By the way while there is all the debate on the onballers don't forget we will have 3 fully fit ruckmen, one of whom is being groomed as a key forward, and one who can play as a clearance ruckrover. Something we sorely lacked last year.

We're very close with our balance of mids, but Synbad is correct in saying that to have that one "Mitchell" type just finishes things off.
Unfortunately though that is easier said than done, but Curnow is doing everything possible to be that player for us.
If attitude, commitment and discipline have any say in the matter then Curnow may be more than half way there. Very much a pro, is Curnow.

Mitchell is a gun and hard at it.
Judd is a gun and hard at it.
What Mitchell has and Judd doesn't, is a desire to hurt people. The Hawks midfield is a hard bunch of (grapes) and we aren't. Ours is more like Collingwood's. Class players, hard at it but no real (gr)unt apart from Robbo. He may be the key because he has only had one crack at it. Never forget Didak sniping Scotland and getting away scott-free. I think that's why Didak's best footy is behind him. He's a cowardly sniper, who, unlike Leigh Matthews, had a bit of time handing it out but can't stomach the thought of a bit coming his way now he's a yard slower.

There you go, right there. Lets see if you can actually move on now.

For your benefit, you'll find Synbad's response to the questions you're asking in the above thread.

Yep, but we all know what's to come!

A deflect, and then go on the attack, because you can never win by defending, you actually have to score........ya know!

This is why I'm particularly interested as to how Curnow progresses this season.
He is certainly being prepared for the centre spot, so only time will tell how that pans out.

Along with Tuohy and Lucas, I currently have Curnow as the next player likely to have a break out season.
If we strike on the trifecta here, we'll be in good shape.

Agree Harker

For the few early games Curnow played before injury he slotted in perfectly.
Lucas has great balance, skill and awareness.
Tuohy has got that balls and all approach like robbo which we need.
Just quietly I don't think he would mind giving a bit if pain also.
