Of course he will survive in a physical sense because he's too old for the draft. (Military as well as AFL.)

'Life' in this context relates to coaching tenure. We should expect the unexpected

Looking into a larger realm - The time of 17th draws significantly closer to us when we read of these new developments :

http://www.haaretz.com/print-edition/news/iaea-to-reveal-iran-building-nuclear-weapons-at-base-near-tehran-1.393920

Plans are being made while trigger fingers become itchier. The US will not fare well.

Your knowledge on Middle East affairs is too amateur to be relied upon dear Blueman....but yes I agree No 17 is near....

The causes of conflict are simple enough even for amateurs to understand.

Of course it is also true that this amatuer was (and is) consistently suggesting that Carlton wins their 17th flag during the time of a big war (most probably in the Middle East) back in 2001 and also on this forum's predecessor in 2002

You may recall that this particular period was one when Carlton's 17th flag prospects were a bit more remote than they are today.

They've been at war in the Middle East for centuries...

Very true, but the wars to date did not economically cripple oil dependent nations and cause widespread anarchy among the heavily geared and indebted non combatant civilian population.

This kind of collateral damage did not occur in the past

This is because of two critical factors : 1. The presence of excess oil production capacity and 2. The absence of an intractable global financial crisis.

But spare oil production capacity has now gone and the GFC has many nations on the edge of economic disaster.

So the next big Middle Eastern war will have some special additional qualites not found in previous conflicts.

While military strategists are aware - Awareness of Civilian leaders is heavily influenced by them being in the pockets of the Oil Industry. They have no objective understanding and no plan for this. Certainly there is no plan to steer people away from disaster (when there are proactive ways to do this).

Instead I think you will see them with a ludicrous and futile political figleaf that attempts to cover and distract from their appalling lack of moral and proper leadership - it will be the nationalistic figleaf of involvement in a large, pointless and economically destructive conflict.

Many people will unquestioningly accept this policy - but they will later discover that they have been defrauded..

From my point of view - The start of the period of this particular geo political environment is the time in which Carltons 17th flag will be won - a bright spot at the beginning of a fraught, difficult period of failed political leadership..

Carlton over its finals hump

Quote:
But Ratten said the Blues' defensive efforts must lift.

"We dipped by about minus eight tackles a game in the last six weeks, whereas Geelong went the other way," he said.

"They got better with plus seven in the last six weeks.

"I still think we have to take the next step if we want to be in the top four, and have to be a bit harder and even a bit nastier."

At 40, Ratten will become a father for the fourth time. Jo is four months' pregnant.
