Met Hyde in the late 70's with a mutual mate in Melbourne. He was a good guy then, smart, not arrogant like many AFL players in those days. History indicates he is an excellent thinker and communicator - looks like a very astute appointment.

Darren Harris was demoted back to his development role when it became apparent that he was a very ordinary coach.

Great to have Robert Hyde teaching our kids. Copeland trophy winner who retired from the game at an early age due to injury. Could have really left his mark as a player had he been able to accumulate 250 plus games but unfortunately that wasn't to be. There's a lot of footballers out there that have Robert Hyde to thank for their development.

Whether he can translate his success from the Northern Knights remains to be seen but what I do like is the fact according to the article he was sounded out by Ratts into applying for the job. Could easily have settled for the best of an average bunch of candidates.

He is really going to struggle to repeat the success he had at the Northern Knights because he didn't coach them. Calder Cannnons was his team.

Took the team all the way to the Prelim... Not bad for 'a very ordinary coach'...

I have a friend who was part of Hyde's 01 premiership team and cannot speak highly enough of the man. Says he was the greatest coach he had, with Leigh Tudor second.
