If the forward line is to work the way it should work next year then Waite will play Thornton's role.
Hampson will be in the square and Kruezer will be CHF. Coaching staff need to work on Waite not being a key player in our forward structure due to age and inconsistency.
We really need Hampson to stand up next season.

Hampson is not, and never will be a FF. Unfortunately just doesnt clunk enough. I find it very hard to believe that we will play 3 x 200cm+ players next year.

I reckon Hampson can do what Trent West does for Geelong.

Id rather he do what Tommy Hawkins does!

Couldn't agree more with the Hampson @ ff, Kruezer @ CHF & Waite 3rd frwd setup.

Playing with Walker, Betts, Garlett?

We played the entire season with a midfielder or defensive forward in the setup.

Would be a huge change to go to 3 talls.

Actually the crap posted against Bower isn't far off either, especially how most of you had him our CHB for the next 10 years at the start of 2011. :banghead:

Vitriol?
Let's not be drama queens here. All I've seen is genuine debate.

More likely to be better than Trent West in the ruck. Won't be good enough to tie Hawkins shoelaces as a forward. Seen that a million times. Fair chance by about the 3rd practice match that we'll work out he's no forward. Definitely is as good, if not better than most ruckmen in the competition though, bar the absolsute very elite. His problem is trying to be better than the two in front of him at our club, which is unlucky for a player of his ruck talent. Be the same for a Warnock if Hampson snuck in head of him.

You guys are joking aren't you. Two ruckman as key forwards and another ruckman playing ruck, what do we do when it hits the ground. It's not the 1960s. When has Hammo shown great skills as a fullforward. he has great straight line speed and a good leap. he has ordinary hands, can't judge a long ball to save himself, and is very awkward when the ball hits the ground. That doesn't matter if he plays ruck with the odd foray up forward. It does if he is a key forward, and if you're proposing to change him with Warnock, who has done well in the ruck but took about two contested marks all season and will be all at sea when the ball hits the deck up forward, then Garlett and Betts will be doing miles more chasing than they currently do. Surely you all saw how easily the ball came out of the Cats forward line before Pods got injured, and Pods is a natural forward who takes contested marks. If big awkward blokes don't mark then you are a man short when the ball hits the deck. And we recruited Big K at #1 to be a gun ruckman, not a workmanlike CHF. If we play 3 ruckmen we may have days out ag weak sides but the good sides will flog us. It doesn't matter how big guys are, if they can't judge the ball in flight or one grab it when it hits their hands, then they will be flogged by a good defender when the ball hits the ground. If all three rucks are fit Warnock and Hammo will fight it out to be #1 ruckman and the other one will be looking at a club that needs a #1 ruckman. Setanta probably won't be there and is not flavour of the month with lots of supporters, but his recovery, balance and capacity to stay on his feet after a contest is way ahead of Hammmo or Warnock. I think Waite and Walks are our key forwards with Big K spending off ball time up there and Hammo spending a bit of time there in between ruck and bench duties.

Not going to magically turn him into a key forward. If we're relying on him to be a key forward and win a flag, well, it won't happen. He might spend a bit of time resting forward, if he gets a game ahead of Warnock, which, like most ruckmen, he'll be handy as support for the key forwards, but playing KP is a skill on it's own, a skill he doesn't have.

Up to the coaches to make the 3 big blokes work. We have invested heavily in all 3 so it is up to the coaches to get the return on investment. You don't need a dominant key forward these days to win games, you just need to be able to compete.
We had a dominant key forward a few years ago, 80% of the ball went to him and if he had a bad day we were up shit creek.
You don't give Hampson a new 3 year contract to play in the Bullants.
Coaches need to turn the 3 big blokes into a weapon.

AGREED
Hampson will be that weapon in 2012. The worst thing the MC could do is start panicking early in the season if it's not working. Leave him at FF all year. when in doubt, bomb it into the goal square and watch the boy fly to either take a grab or to bring it down the ravenous crumbers to goal. Must be played at FF every game

I can't see it myself.

Hampson the key forward?

sounds as believable as ET.

just hope he can develop into a good ruckman.

just sounds to hopeful to believe he can be an impressive key position forward on the back of two promising games in his career

Hampson is not and will never be a FF. Certainly never has been, as we've seen, and never will be. Can he time a lead, use his body in a marking contest? Then after all that he can't catch a cold. Opposition will soon work out he'll drop it and their defence will have it swooped downfield before we know what's happened. He won't be a great help defensively. KP forward is a skill on it's own. We just delisted a bloke today who is a way better forward, and I mean way better. The bloke who dominated at CHF in the EF is also a way better forward. Fair chance we could bring in Casboult and he'd be a better forward. Luckily the bloke we delisted today was alot worse ruckman, which, funnily enough, is Hampson's position and where he should play as it's a skill he's really good at. Opposition would love us playing 3 ruckman. Worked for Essendon*.......not! We'll play 2 with one in the two's as insurance. That's why you have 3 ruckmen.

It won't be the MC that panics, supporters will panic after two practice games.

The strategies behind winning games of footy consistently are in a constant state of flux.
New ideas, formations and set ups are brought in every year from other sides to try to take advantage of rule changes and to obtain a bit of an edge over your opposition.
As an armchair critic, I am content to trust that the coaching staff are fully qualified and confident with their plans for next year.
I'm intrigued to see what develops and can only hope we have a better run with injury.

So Waite's new contract should be done and dusted this week.

that's my feeling too.

A ruckman that can pinch hit up forward is what I'm hoping for. He can battle it out with Warnock for that role and Kreuzer as the 2nd ruck/midfielder/forward
