Levi should have been given 5 games at Full Forward - Not Thornton

Watson should have been given 15 games across Half back - Not Thornton.

Clogged up the team from developing. In 2011 we were never going to win the flag. We would have finished 5-8 with or without Thornton.

So we would have been better off without him and developed our players.

Now we start 2012 not knowing if Levi or Watson can play.

We know what Thornton has to offer.

While Thornton has improved, and played some good footy, he is not the answer going forward. Cannot do a job down back, only chance is occassionally doing a job in the forward line.

This is why he is signed for 1 year as insurance.

You are correct Caulfielddrover in a way.

By being in our comfort zone and playing it safe, we dont know what potential we have in playing the Levi's, Watsons, whoever, as we dont want to risk it at the stage of the clubs finals potential.

1 year I can live with, so the club and the player have done the right thing here.

Next year we need to start culling these types of players.

What I was trying to say, is he is a band aid to our forward line.

A back up for now.

Won't disagree but while he is a short term solution if he can play half as well as did in the EF up forward he can stay there for a while. His body work and contested marking was the best I'd seen from a Carlton forward in ages. We don't have that with the others. While that form is not the norm he has shown he can play that role well enough to support Waite and Walker as well as Kreuzer when he's there. The temporary solution until development from our kids.

Better prospect than putting one of the other ruckman there by a long way who have shown many times they can't play the position and can't catch a cold. Can never understand people's excitement there. They forget easily.
