Not convinced the Blues have the required discipline to go further, as still evidenced in a few games this year and particulerly the 2nd Q in the semi final. I had hoped that such lapses of discipline would be gone by now ... the modern game requires hard nosed discipline in regard to hard running both ways, sticking to team rules and not giving away dumb frees. I still believe we have a way to go in these areas, as well as some skill development and being better able to withstand the tendency to panick under close pressure. Time will tell I guess, but the message must get across.

The Carlton Football Club has acknowledged the marked improvement in the performance of its playing group, in reappointing Senior Coach Brett Ratten for the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

The Board of Directors ratified the Club’s decision at a meeting at Visy Park last week, in the aftermath of a campaign which had seen Ratten coach his players to fifth place and complete their first finals victory in AFL competition since 2001.

In functional teams there is an acceptance that we will sometimes have conflict, but we are strong enough to resolve this.

Having worked at the Carlton Football Club for the past two seasons, we are pleased to now see some acknowledgment for the in-roads the senior coach, Brett Ratten, has made in this area.

He has taken responsibility for driving the development of these strong relationships with both the coaching and playing staff. I feel this has enabled him to understand far more about the motivation of individuals within the team and as a consequence, enabled him to have much more open dialogue with players about their performance and development.
