Yeah, Buddy was born with it!

There is no such thing as a 'natural footballer'; they are all just sportsmen with varying degrees of competitiveness, athleticism and experience. What's the good of getting all fatalistic on the subject? We want to keep everybody but we are b******d if we know what to do with them? It's depressing! :?

Disagree. WCE rest their rucks in the forward line AND on the bench. We could have a three wat rotation going with Warnock and Hampson in the ruck, Hampson and kreuzer in the forward line and all of them on the bench at some stage. The key to a tall forward line is mobility. If you have tall fast forwards, they can mark over their shorter opponents or can still make a contest of it on the ground.

That mark reminded me of Kouta. Not the actual mark, but the way he tucked it under one arm on the way down and landed on his feet.

Take a few of those and you'll do me as a leading forward.
We nearly beat the Eagles, actually should've, virtually without a KP forward, especially after Thornton went down, so the balance has to be right.

We'll already have 3 talls in the forward line, Kreuzer, Waite and Thornton. The latter two are our KP forwards and do a good job. Think we found, especialy after the EF, Thornton was easily our best bet at CHF for now. Much better idea than another ruckman there that drops everything. When Kreuzer rucks Warnock or Hampson, not both, either has a bench spell or rests forward. Don't want to be clogging the bench throughout the game with ruckmen sitting there when we need to rotate our mids.

He hasn't sold me yet. After all he's only played two good games in his career...

So Hampson is the new Walker who had only played two good games prior to this year? :donk:

Go Hammer!

Completely agree with this. There is no such thing as "natural talent" its all learned. There are no recessive "football" genes.

Well done Shaun, and well done to the club!!
If he does play forward, I think he should wear a glove.

The main thing is we have him locked up for 3 years!!!
If we do decide to let him go, we are in a MUCH stronger position.
Remember Jacobs??

Good stuff!
Now for Waite..

Hampson excelled at sport at school, including athletics, swimming and soccer, but did not begin playing Australian football until 2004. He then joined Queensland's Mt Gravatt Football Club in 2005 and by the end of the year he was their number one ruckman.[1] Hampson was drafted in the priority round by the Carlton Football Club (17th pick overall).

Turns 24 in March, has only played footy for 8 seasons - 5 of them with Carlton for a Total of 44 games so definitely still learning his craft. This year was going to be his breakout and he looked awesome until injured. Still plenty of upside with this guy and is at the right age rip it open in 2012.

The amigos always talk about his speed as well - Yarran reckons that Hammer is as fast as anyone at the club - I don't think that we have had the flexibility or confidence in Kreuzer and Warnock to be able to exploit Hammer's speed. Lets try to turn him into a 'Buddy' type of leading forward. (I'd take an 85% of Buddy)

You can't turn someone into even an 85% Buddy!!! Buddy is blessed with natural football talent and a lot of it.. Hampson is blessed with natural athletisism and no natural football talent.

For the sake of the club I really hope he makes it but he will never ever be even close to Buddy....

Well gee, Mr pessimistic Glass-Half-Empty. I'm reminded of Bazza McKenzie: "The day it'll be raining virgins I'll be locked in the shithouse with a poofter"

sorry, end of a day when my (33yo) daughter expressed amazement when she found a beatles song in german on her ipod "Komm, Gib Mir Deine hand" and it has been in my head all day.
No prizes for guessing the english title

Ofcourse we can. Hampson - FF, Kruezer - CHF & Robbie - Ruck
They just need to learn to play forward.

Exactly right. I'm happy to admit I wasn't sold on Hammer earlier in the year. FFS...play him full forward all year, every game. Give him the position and let him develop into it. Will be shocked if he didn't kick 50 goals for us.
Leading, marking and goal kicking practice from now till the beginning of the season

FF. WALKER HAMPSON BETTS
HF. GARLETT WAITE GIBBS/JUDD/ROBBO

WARNOCK/KRUEZER in the ruck

With our developing midfield and stiffened defence, our aim must be top 2 and a presence on GF day
