Carlton - having decided to keep coach Brett Ratten - is preparing to outbid every AFL rival on signing Craig as a "senior assistant" or "coaching director".

Senior assistant??

That's Richardson's role. Could he be outbound?

Interesting.... can't help but feel that it says something about Alan Richardson not being there next year.

That was my first thought too. Where does this leave Richardson?

Craig lost his way with the Crows at the end, but would definitely be a good get in a senior role of some kind.

Not sure where that leaves the Richardson and Brown who are seeking top jobs eventually. Effectively would put them both one rung back from where they were this year. Would be a good move - Craig would have a pretty good knowledge of our strengths and weaknesses and where improvement should come from.

Hmm, will be interesting to see how this develops.

Craig David's a fine coach. It should be remembered that he lost a lot of experienced players over the last couple of years of his tenure at the Crows - would leave a big gap in any side.

Would be fantastic to have him and Richardson in the same coaches box.

Would certainly put Essendon*'s "dream team" to shame if this were to happen.

But the distinction between "Senior assistant" and "Director of Coaching" needs to be clear in this case, as these titles often get thrown around willy-nilly by journos.

Are you sure Doc? I agree with the position I am just not sure about Craig. Personally I think his record is poor and he is overrated but thats purely looking from the outside.

Did you see who wrote the article?

Hotcox is a more reliable source

I am quite impressed how attacking our recruiting has been already this last week.

I hate the cows but Craig is a smart footy mind.

It couldnt hurt.

Regularly have a good friend of Richardson't visit my office...talking about coaching today and he didn't think that Richardson had applied for any of the current crop of jobs. Which would indicate to me that he is happy for the moment in the set-up the Blues have going.

I'm hoping he is right, 'cos it seems to be working well at the moment.

Surely Craig would have more of a role managing the sports science side of things, perhaps more involved in rotations and the like?

Doesn't he have a Sports Science background? I think maybe a this is all a massive push to import our fitness and recovery area! Either way I think he will be a good catch if we can get him!

Adelaide has one of the worst injury histories in recent memory. If that's an indication of his fitness credentials, we might be in trouble

I hope we dont go down the phsyco babble bulltish sportscience path that North Melbourne went down.

They appointed some "guru" sports science geek to head up their entire Medical/Sports Science Dept. and have spectatularly had the worst record for soft tissue and injury mis-mananagment in the AFL since.

I just wrote this in the Ratten thread:

I am ambivalent about Craig.

Has a reputation for flogging players and is meant to be known for his sport science nouse, when in reality there are plenty others with more knowledge.

Yes, he has experience but he has not won a flag. I know he did under Blight but how much did he contribute?

Just not sure.
