Yeah true. And, it would've got us to a prelim against the Cats which I believe we would've lost, but would've been an invaluable learning experience. Sure the bombers final was huge in front of 90k, but the opposition was just dreadful on the day. Would've learnt a lot playing Geelong in a prelim.

Absolutely. Didn't hurt Collingwood in 2010 after getting smashed in the '09 Prelim by the same side. Funnily enough they only got there by falling over the line against Adelaide from a controversial holding the man decison against Rutten on Anthony in the last minute.

Hopefully we've still seen enough to recognise the weaknesses and indentify who our 'Jolly' and 'Ball' might be. Incidentally in 2009 Collingwood won 15 games in the minor round and just that 1 final.

re comments about where we are at
a quick look up of ladders from the past 3 years our 2011 result of 14 wins and a draw and % of 130 would have secured
4th in 2010,
5th in 2009,
4th in 2008
the % was incredible (compared to previous years with top 4 team) but teams in top 5 this year had excellent % because of the pounding they gave a lot of week teams including the newbies...so % is a less reliable guide.

Basically we are top 4/cusp of top 4 team.

To move into the top 2 a minimum of 18 wins is required, potentially that needs to be 19 with GWS in the mix.

Argueable we should have been Essendon* and Geelong this year giving us 16 wins, but even so that would still have only secured 5th.

If we leave our backline alone, continue to develop the midfield rotations/depth, find a key forward (internally/externally), build some more confidence and importantly keep our players on the park, we should evolve into a team that wins more games . But will we win 19? That is the real question - I'm not sure.

Marcus Davies double goal debacle sticks in my mind about our loss last night, if he didn't give that free away, then we win the game.

We have to wait 6 months now until we see the Bluebaggers again

Go Cats now to win the flag, f-ck Collingwood!

Personally already sick of the wankfest over the Eagles going from last to a prelim in one season. Could you imagine the smears and innuendo if it was us?

West Coast beat Carlton by 3 points. I can say they deserved the win, because they were fractionally the better team on the day. They also deserved to finish above us on the ladder because they had a better season than us. But get real, all this talk of a miracle season is nauseating.

OK - they have had a very good season but it does not truly tell the tale. I am a big fan of Woosha as a coach but the reality is they massively underachieved last season to the point of looking very suspect in terms of where they finished.

The team that beat us last night is not a great deal from the one that finished stone motherless last season, and it makes you wonder about how they managed their season last year once it was clear they weren't going to make the 8. Oh, but that's right, only Carlton tank...

CHB. Lock him in. Has shown heaps there this year and will be a gun in a year or two.

He has also made quite a few good attacking runs from defence, so will have a few tricks back there too.

Agreed! So why did we draft Watson?

So we can turn him into a fwd.

A win to us last night would have seen the knives out because we only would have made it with all our number 1 draft picks we obtained through tanking.

The Eagles (like Geelong), got very lucky with a few of their wins.

Remember the game they played against the Bulldogs? Questionable calls late in the game went their way.

They had a good year, but they had a good draw too.

Agree. Absolute knob. Not sure exactly what he had to be so smug about?

Yeah nah. I really don't think Lloyd is that bad a bloke. I hated him on the field, but in the media I think he's ok. He hates Carlton for sure, but at least he doesn't pretend that he's unbiased about it. He is also a pretty big wrap for our list and where we're heading. He also doesn't take himself too seriously.

As for the tissues, he was just having a laugh with Andy Maher.

We had a good draw too. Geelong and Hawks once each and interstate Port. Freo, Syd and Bris.
Next year we will get Hawks and Geel twice, Collingwood twice (every year) Interstate WCE, Bris, Syd and Adelaide. If we are going to finish top 4 we will need to win some of those and all the others. Teams like StK and the Dogs, who have regularly beaten us for years will have to be dispatched ruthlessly and the also-rans like Richmond and Essendon*, North and their ilk, likewise.
We will need to improve a lot to keep our momentum going up the ladder. Eventually we will have to beat Collingwood and Geelong twice to get credibility. I hope we can improve enough to get a start on that next year.

Compared to our draw they had a good draw - played far less top 8 teams twice. They shouldn't in 2012 based on their performance this year though.

We'll get WC twice next year - the last two years we've gotten whoever we've played in the previous year's final twice. Add that to the Filth, Scum and Punt Rd Ferals x2 and you've pretty much worked out our 2012 fixture

This may be unfair, but had we picked up Darling instead of Watson, we would have won this game quite comfortably.

This reminds me of the whole "if only we'd picked Rich instead of Yarran" epic, (which seems to have gone strangely quiet this year).
Give Watson a couple of years and then see what you think.

I'm sure Watson will be fine, and there are lots of good reasons why we picked him up where we did. In a couple of years Watson won't be able to impact the 2011 semi-final.

Darling was ready for AFL, Watson was not. West Coast had Darling in his first year make a major contribution towards winning a semi-final. So be it.

It's very very rare for a first year key position type to make an impact in year one, I'm jealous.

Rich and Palmer had awesome first years too

Just got back home this morning.
Still quite  but shifting to
Crowd / atmosphere wise that was as intense as a GF( and i go every year). Just magnificent.
Big tick to the WA Blues who organised the before and after game function. Really helped with emotions after the game. Great support that got the thumbs up from Sticks.
But that stadium is a complete joke.
Must have been close to you Gro` as Nick Stevens was just behind us.
As someone mentioned, just gave up worrying about the umpiring in the second half, voice was gone anyway.
Weagles supporters are flogs.
Once again their midfield got us. We desperately need more quality midfield options.
Other than that, enjoyed the weekend especially the swim at City beach and Kings Park.

From the AFL Website re MRP

Quote:
Contact between Carlton's Andrew Carrazzo and West Coast's Daniel Kerr from Saturday night's semi-final at Patersons Stadium was the only other incident assessed by the panel from week two of the finals. Carrazzo made contact with Kerr as the ball was being kicked back into play after a score in the first quarter, with the Eagles' star onballer receiving a free kick. The panel found that the force used by Carrazzo was below that considered to be a reportable offence and took no further action.

Surprise Surprise
