Watson has improved his defensive work, but has a long, long way to go.

At the moment I see him as an overgrown Josh Hunt. Aren't too many spots for them in AFL.

forget them - on what i have seen (admitedley only on ABC games), levi is the man - hits the contest hard - one grab marks, something that watson lacks. no urgency in his game from what i've seen of him.

watson will struggle to play seventy games.
can't contested mark ,can't run can't bend down and hates body contact.
I'd rather mark Austin. watto just does not have the physical attributes to play the modern game.
give me Jack daring or issac smith anyday.

and th at has nothing to do with improvement. watson can't change his body to become afl athletic.

Crikey if you're right then he's a terrible waste of a draft pick :yikes: Livo Mk 11 ???

You have
Mccines
McCarthy
Casboult
Watson
Hendo
Kruezer
Hampson

One of these blokes needs to step up and become a KP Forward if they dont we either have to draft one in and move one or two out

Yeah welcome back Synbad! Look forward to crossing swords but on this i agree with you.

Mark Austin has come on in 2011 with his first injury free run for a long time. IMO he deserves another year on the rookie list with our shortage of KPP's. Austin was thrown to the wolves in his only senior game early this year against Collingwood. He played on Cloke/Doors with SFA support as our other KP backs were out injured. We all love a player that turns it on when we're 5–6 goals down but it's a bit hard for a player new into the side to be that person.
And most players look better when the team is playing well.
I don't think that one outing in the Seniors would have boosted his confidence but he's fighting back steadily.

One of the worrying things about watson is at his age most kids are trying to put weight on he has to work to take weight off and sculpt his body.
Its unnatural for a kid to be trying to stream his body down at that age because it's naural course is to get bigger.
If watson is reading this he shouldn't be angry with comments.
He should find the right attitude to work harder than everyone else to his body and mind afl right.
On levi I think he is too slow and his defensive and ground work game will stop him at the highest level.
A guy like sam reid is the kind of tall teams need.

only one year in, so need to give watson and the recruiters the benefit of the doubt

having said that, would expect a big pre-season and great strides forward next year for the guy (maybe an angry haircut to begin with)!

for and against for watson = the game evolves so quickly ie one year on and the game is quicker and with respect to the development of Jamo and hendo, KPP back positions in the 22 are limited.

Shannon Hurn is a fine example of doing just that.

First tall I'd be looking at moving on is waite
The guy plays very little does very little and apart from his few cameo performances worth anything he hands the ball back to the opposition with his undisciplined footy.
He gives away far too many free kicks and doesn't work hard enough, continually playing from behind .

Its simple. Play from in front work hard and the benefits will come in the form of marks or free kicks.

Too lazy to play key forward too unskilled and slow to play midfield.

Love to see what a sucker team gives us for him.

We can't afford to be charitable.

He plays aged twenty nine the same way he played aged twenty one.
Where is the professional attitude from waite?

Is that the Sam Reid who is the same build, same athleticism, similar height to Jarrad Waite...????...
The modern day key forward needs to be fast and elusive on the ground, putting on defensive pressure, while being strong in the air and creating contests......... Waite is our modern day tall forward. I know he is 28 but he is in his prime now and still has 3-4 years left.

Watson will be lucky to play 30 games on what I have seen so far. Watched almost all Bullants games, and the kid just doesnt have it.

Austin, if he can stay on the park, is a much better prospect. Reads the play much better and has a very strong set of hands.

So that will be the focus of 1000 odd posts over the next five weeks. Trade Waite. Waite is crap. Waite is immature. Waite is a waste of space. Etc. Good to know nice and early.

I would try Watson as a forward......

His long kicking from his left side could be a real asset......

I'd be getting him physically mobile and fit enough in the next few seasons to compete for Duigans role.
