I firmly believe what you ask for is what you get....our aim was to win a final....and that's what we did....I would really like to see the aim next season and beyond as being simply to win a flag....

Giving up the 1st goal of the 3rd and 4th hurt. Always chasing.

agreed. we've paid our dues over the last decade. every year from now on, we need to refresh the list, be innovative in all areas and play to win the cup. period. enough of these bullshit, incremental, low expectation goals.

Was on my flight home this morning along with Swanny and Wayne Carey. Great to see Nick make the trip, obviously must be very passionate about the club.

Never really got much attention but losing Stevens to premature career-ending injury was a big loss - you talk about missing some class with I50 kicks - he gave that to us in spades. Always seemed like a good bloke.

Another Blues fan in the crowd was Parko - they were saying on ABC that he booked tickets and caught the red eye home in the one day - love that from Parko.

We are Carlton and the quality of the people in our corner at the moment is getting better by the year.

Does Parko consider himself Carlton or Hawks?

Think he always answers that pretty carefully but I get the impression he's got a real soft spot for us - and has always had a really close relationship with Ratts. But not exactly sure which way he swings when its us vs the Hawks.

Depends who is winning. Like my eight year old son, barracks for the winning team.

Very unfair.

I haven't heard him speak about Hawthorn, but if you heard Parko speak about the Blues at the SOC Luncheon and his impassioned plea to the current day players to make the most of their season you'd have no doubt he still loves the Blues.

Thanks for all the Blue discussion during the year everyone. I've read a lot more than i've written but good fun and a great footy club.

Great year for the Blues who really did become a proper team I feel and were genuinely unlucky in the end.

I'll be back around March.

Agree. Absolute knob. Not sure exactly what he had to be so smug about?

Like most teams who win flags, u need real hurt games like last night, look at the cats in Sydney in 05 I think, Pies in 07 in the elimination against the cats...last night will hurt ALL Carlton people especially the players, that's what will motivate them next year!

I don't disagree, Figer. Trouble is we've had these games in the previous 2 years finals aswell.

I never bought into that goal of getting a home final & winning it. I've thought since the start of the season a prelim in 2011 should be the expectation. I don't think we would've been much of a show against the Cats next week to be honest, but our development took a big dent with that loss last night unfortunately.

How many of us would've thought when Judd crossed to the Blues that after 4 years we would've won one final? (against a shit team)

We've just got to fast track things next year & force our way into a GF. Geelong had heartbreak in 05, missed the finals in 06 then won it in 07. The Hawks were shit in 06, won a final in 07 then won it in 08. It can be done, but it won't be easy.

Was thinking similar today. Whilst I'm proud, and obviously dont think this group has peaked, the realisation that all this hard work has only got us to a 'Fremantle 2010 level', still one step away from a 'Western Bulldogs' level, and another again to get to 'St Kilda' level really hit home about how much work is still left to be done.

Isn't it funny though how if Walker gets that free the whole 'vibe' and 'discussion' around this club would be on a completely more positive level in regards to each player, and the strength of the squad in general, yet in reality it wouldn't have made any difference into how good or bad we played regardless of the result.

There are times when you can under value close losses, and overrate close wins.

Yeah true. And, it would've got us to a prelim against the Cats which I believe we would've lost, but would've been an invaluable learning experience. Sure the bombers final was huge in front of 90k, but the opposition was just dreadful on the day. Would've learnt a lot playing Geelong in a prelim.

Having had nearly 24 hours to digest the loss, I'm still dirty on the umps.

We need to finish top 2 to avoid playing interstate where we always seem to get a raw deal.

They just hate us...

Eagles semi final win was the lead story on Ch 7 news tonight. And then a detailed recap in sport. I reckon half the bulletin dealt with the game.

Tough living here when the Eagles are doing well at the best of times. Almost unbearable when they beat your own team in a classic final.

Dealing with last night's result is hard enough without it being rammed in your face every 5 mins.

Apologies to the non WA fans on the above but my fellow sandgropers will understand I'm sure.
