I hope not...

Fine for supporters but not players/officials... don't want to sound like sore losers.

F&*( that. We need for it to go on record that it was so blatant that the umpiring was biased to the point of comedy tonight.

Make the criticism, pay the fine, and who knows, we might get a few of the 50/50s sometime when it actually counts.

We need to pay a Hirdy-esque "fine" to the umps

Well except for the Eagles. And Cats. And Swans.

I know what you're saying, but injuries to three absolute gun, key players has not happened to one other club this finals series. The most important thing for us next year is to have luck with injuries, especially at the right time.

All the luck went the way of the Weagles. Kennedy's leg break goal. 3-4 goals that cleared the line by millimeters when ours were touched, mcGinnity's goal.
The umpiring was deplorable. It was a final umpired like a NAB cup game. Even the double goal was very soft. The Selwoods must have been taught how to get a " too high" free at high school. Before Walkers non-free in the square, Lynch should have been pinger for holding it 40m from goal to Garlett. But the number of times we were hit high and not rewarded was ridiculous given the frequency that the Coasters pulled them.

Our luck with injuries this year was matched by our handling of injuries. I heard today there will be a shakeup of our medical team. For Gibbs, Kreuzer and Waite to be missing. Russell never got fit. Curnow never recovered.

The boys were magnificent. Every player gave his all. We should have won this game. I don't blame any of our players. West coast rode their luck all year and it continued today.

Feeling odd, gutted but proud.

Umpiring was APPALLING. Even Ratts alluded to that non- free to Walker which would have been paid in the first 3 qtrs.

Losing Tbird hurt. Tuohy great tho.

Played 3rd final in 3 years interstate and lost by a few points again - cannot discount home crowd advantage. We'd have probably won in Melbourne :S

Don't want to dwell on selections/non-selections now.

Very proud though. Great year.

Is it me or do I just imagine things! I can't remember the last time the goal umps paid a touch on the line against the WCE! Twice today both were paid & us down the opposite end was paid a touch!!!

What a wank of a national comp!!! WCE get to play at their version of Visy Park yet all us Victorian teams have to play at a neutral G!!!

I'm on the cats bandwagon! Big time

Tonight's game has raised a clear need for full time professional umpires.....

Their bias was breathtaking tonight.....

If we were any other team with our forward issues would I be putting Fev on contract right now. Damn the man for his stupidity.

Waite for me.. wrote:
A lot of people seem to be banging on about Murph, Simpson, Tant's misses - the fact is that if WC kicked all their 'misses' too, we would have lost by more.

No it's not fair enough. We missed easily the 4 most straight forward shots of the game. WC had next to no easy shots, which is actually a credit to our defence.

I can't decide whether Murphy's misses that would have put us up by 7 goals in the first half were worst than Simpson's out on the full in the 4th quarter of final lost by 3 points. But please don't pretend the Eagles misses were relevant.

Must kick goals when you have the chance.

Simmo
Murph
Setanta

Of course it was not there fault we lost but kicking those goals would have been the reason we won.

Thanks for a great season Blues

Look out AFL Carlton are coming

I'm sure when the disappointment settles it'll be easier to focus on the positives of a pretty good season, but right now it's hard to look past the "what ifs" after narrowly losing our 3rd interstate final in 3 years -
* Walker not being paid a free kick in front of goal at the death
* Murph (x 2), Setanta & Simmo missing gettable set shots
* Davies giving away 2 free kicks in the goal square in the 2nd quarter
* Not having Gibbs, Kreuzer & Waite available and then losing T-Bird before half time

But "what if" questions can drive you mad.

FWIW - even if Hammer had passed his fitness test, I doubt he would have made a difference tonight - he hasn't played AFL in over 3 months. It would have been a big ask to bring him in tonight and expect him to have an impact. I think it was our hard running that kept us in the game, so I don't have a problem with the MC playing an extra running player (rather than bringing in a suspect Hammer). We know Setanta is average as a ruckman, but I thought he battled honestly tonight against far more talented opponents in the ruck (he was simply outclassed and we had no other options).

In retrospect, selecting JR instead of Davies is the only one the MC could possibly have done differently. But really, I don't know how much difference it would have made...

Hats off to Laidler, Robbo, Warnock, AJ & Tuohy. In fact, the whole team had a real crack but we weren't quite good enough.

The game was over-umpired in the first half. Other than that (and the fact we lost!), it was one of the best AFL games of the year.

Hope T-Bird is OK.

Juddy had a dirty night. I guess in some ways it's a positive that we got to within a kick of a Preliminary Final without Judd having a good game and with Gibbs, Kreuzer & Waite all out.

It hurts. It sucks. It's footy.

I hope they dont put some pseudo phsycobabble sports scientist in charge like they did at North Melbourne - their soft injuries and injury management have gone into the shitter since they went down that path.

So what do we think about Henderson for 2012......back or forward?

CHB. Lock him in. Has shown heaps there this year and will be a gun in a year or two.

He has also made quite a few good attacking runs from defence, so will have a few tricks back there too.

Agreed! So why did we draft Watson?

However WE are Carlton and don't accept finals defeats
Must win more games on regular season to avoid interstate finals
Never get the luck rub of the green or whatever interstate
Can we stop bagging Davies and carrazzo it's easy to make them scapegoats
I love Juddy but he wasn't at his best tonight either
Team still needs to become more ruthless
Agree with Agro we need to finish kick goals better
Never put enough scoreboard pressure on when we have momentum
Great improvement of most players on the list this year

Hope that we keep most of list together as it is shaping up well
Apparently Ratten suggested we would be active in trade period whereas Kernahan was talking more organic growth
Another couple of additions like Laidler and duigan would be good
Need to put a lot of work into Lucas Watson et al
Need a bit of luck with injuries next year especially during finals
Did the eagles have anyone of any note missing tonight
Great effort without kreuz Waite hammer gibbs and Russell

Finally, some sanity amongst the madness.
