Now I might have this wrong, but wasn't it about this time last week that you informed us that Hurley wouldn't be playing?

... and how well did Hurley cover the ground last week?

Very well for a while, then not so great I guess.

But that's not my point - everyone knew he was under an injury cloud, it's more the inside info that Hotcox supposedly has rarely turns out to be that accurate...his source told him that Hurley wouldn't line up, his source was wrong...

When Hotcox said that he would not play then he did I was very happy because I knew there was a vital Essendon* player out on the park who was not fit.

If Hotcox says Cox is not playing this week and Cox plays I will also be happy for the same reason.

Could not care less who is right or wrong, just if it means the Blues might have a better chance of winning the game.

We should forego having a ruckman and just deploy an extra midfielder to scoop up the crumbs!

SURELY Hammer would have to be a starter for this game :sly:

206 was terrific last week, but Cox/NicNat would @#$%&! destroy him on his own (Setanta needs to stay in the qoalsquare).

I can only guess they were waiting to see how the weather panned out before ruling someone out with 'soreness' and bringing him in.

History tells us that ruckman play better when they are the clear no 1. Cox/Nat are different because Nat is a freak athlete that is almost a midfielder.
I would be tempted to persist with Warnock/Irish and go with the extra runner. I am not convinced that it has worked for us to ever play Warnock/Hampson together. Either alone is a lot hungrier than when they have the backup.

Let's not try to match WCE at their strengths, but beat them with our own.

Good post B. You make a reasonable point. I just hope we will give a good account of ourselves. Go Blues. I'm very nervous in anticipation.

I see what you're saying Buzz, but realistically if their ruckman are dominating, it won't matter WTF we do in other areas because their midfielders will constantly be getting first use and we're pushing shit uphill from the outset. A tired Warnock and a stop-gap Setanta (which then leaves a void at FF) will leave us extremely vulnerable and with 'lulls', moments where they know they can exploit us. They will not offer us the same courtesy at any stage of the game. The Hammer has to play.

Warnock ain't Jolly (yet), and we ain't Collingwood (yet).

50 hitouts to 29 in their favour last week. This sort of dominance against us will result in things getting ugly.

For those bemoaning the loss of Gibbsy and the continuing injuries to Krooze and Waitey, consider that we are going to field close to the most in form side that we have put on the park this season. Also consider that the team that played against the Weagles in round 14 was close to our worst for the year.

Sure Gibbsy is a big loss, but let’s look objectively at the other changes:

Firstly Santy has been in better form than Krooze. Tick!

These guys played in round 14 and are either gone (retired, injured or sadly out of form):

Matthew Kreuzer, Bryce Gibbs, Jordan Russell, Brock McLean, Mark Austin, Ryan Houlihan & Rhys O’Keeffe.

Here is that side from Round 14 and have a squiz at just who was missing:

Carlton V West Coast Round 14 June 26th.

B: Zac Touhy, Michael Jamison, Paul Bower

HB: Chris Yarran, Mark Austin, Bryce Gibbs

C: Kade Simpson, David Ellard, Heath Scotland

HF: Jeffrey Garlett, Lachlan Henderson, Ryan Houlihan

F: Andrew Walker, Matthew Kreuzer, Eddie Betts

Foll: Robert Warnock, Chris Judd, Marc Murphy

I/C: Jordan Russell, Andrew Carrazzo, Dennis Armfield, Rhys O’Keeffe

Missing from that match and in the mix to play Saturday night:

Nick Duigan, Jeremy Laidler, Mitch Robinson, Bret Thornton, Setanta o’hAilpin, Aaron Joseph, Michael Jamison (broke down and was subbed off early in match) & Shaun Hampson. Take into account also that Knockers and Hendo were only a game or two into their returns. Hendo played forward and was almost unsighted, but has reinvented himself as a KPD since. The hard nuts who were missing that day include Robbo, Duigs, Laids, AJ, Santy and even Juddy who dragged himself out of bed to play with the flu. There is no doubt that if Hammer plays, he will be invaluable assistance to Knockers and when resting forward, will straighten us up.

Possible team for Saturday night (I adjusted Hendo and T-Bird to where I am sure that they will play):

B: Aaron Joseph, Michael Jamison, Jeremy Laidler

HB: Chris Yarran, Lachlan Henderson, Nick Duigan

C: Kade Simpson, Mitch Robinson, Heath Scotland

HF: Jeffrey Garlett, Bret Thornton, Andrew Carrazzo

F: Eddie Betts, Setanta o’hAilpin, Andrew Walker

Foll: Robert Warnock, Chris Judd, Marc Murphy

I/C: Dennis Armfield, David Ellard, Marcus Davies, Zac Touhy

Emergencies: Sean Hampson, Paul Bower, Jordan Russell

In: Tuohy
Out: Gibbs (Shoulder)

So from last week against the Bummers, we lose Gibbsy and he is replaced by Zach Touhy who shouldn’t have been dropped in the first place, IMHO.

Gibbsy aside, really we are infinitely a better side now and are much better balanced with more talls and guys who can play tall as well as positional changes that have been working. Our defense looks very settled now as opposed to the part timers that we had at our disposal in round 14. I am sure that there will be at least one late change dependant on weather, intel and matchups. I would be very surprised if Hammer didn’t play. We will need him against their super tall jumpers.

Carlton to run them off their legs and win by 4 goals. Go BlueBoyz!

And welcome back to you as well. Your posts haven't got any shorter.

Yeah Chook, I have been busy, but I have been lurking. My posts take a few months to put together, that's why they are so long.

I'll give you a heads up. I have been working on a fair uncompromised draw that would be acceptable to all parties. It is about 10 pages at the moment. Ha Ha

Bugger that ... just get to work on those trade-week scenarios ....

We fielded 2 different teams last week.
1 had Warnock in the ruck and Setanta at FF and was dominant.
2 had no Warnock, and Setanta in the ruck and got killed.
Thankfully, we fielded team 1 for a much greater proportion of the game than team 2.

If Cox plays, we have to play Hammer.

forget the ruck issue, losing Gibbs will have a massive impact, especially after the form he was displaying more recently.
