Too much common sense from this one

Carlton bottomed out in 2002 but their 1st draft pick was 45. We had 2 x 1st round, 2 x 2nd round & of course Jobe as FS. Again the next year we had 2x 1st rounders & our second & 3rd round picks - Carlton had Walker then round 4 onwards. Its old ground but the idea that Carlton should be ahead purely for cyclical reasons sells them short & glosses over our issues & mistakes. Thats not doom & gloom, its perspective. We are currently behind them because they re-built better quicker & we have some catching up to do. We have a lot of potential which will hopefully see us pass them in the near future but I think its fair to say they have made better use of their potential to this point & developed more established players - not just their priority picks. Guys like Jamison, Garlett, Carrazzo, Joseph, Ellard & Curnow (was good before injuries) were all rookies & players like Simpson, Duigan & Betts were late or PSD picks. We have had too many misses in those years to have a side at the same pooint of development - not because they started sooner.

Again, this is old ground but I think its important to get a better idea of where we are actually at & why rather than delude ourselves that time is the only missing ingredient. As much as I & everyone else here hate the carnts, I think we can still be objective in our assesments.

I thought half our team were priority picks

Has that guy been accused for trolling yet?

Because according to many on that forum we are paying twice the salary cap, stolen players from other clubs, clubbed baby seals and made poor innocent Dean Wallis gamble on his own teams matches against his own will.

As fans though, they are the most whiney supporter base per capita, and the worst losers by far. Im surprised the Pears injury wasn't mentioned as a factor in any major news outlet.

Yep, have noticed they've plenty.

Oh, and also:
Mark Mercuri
Joe Misiti
Steve Allessio
Blake Caracella
Adam Ramanauskas (not Italian nor Greek but European)

To name a few players for them...

They're laughable.

I saw one thread where they were proudly proclaiming they have a better history, their club has more of a soul, they have more fans and those fans are better. Apparently they all stayed till the end... that would explain the empty blue seats where those clad in red and black sat. Theres nothing wrong with loving your club, but doing so at the expense of reality is sad.

My username on BomberBlitz was '17 Minute Mark of the 3rd Term', a reference to when their bravery ceased for 2011 and their very best, most passionate and die hard fans started evacuating the terraces.

Better history hah!!! They played their home games in East Melbourne till about 1924 so that is laughable for a start - but they are right they do have a soul.

One of my favourites about this rivalry is we have it over them -

Head to head -

Played: 235

Won: 120

Lost: 110

Drawn: 5

See this is the point, Essendon* & Richmond have been with us every step of the way since our demise. The fact we have progressed quicker is quite embarrassing to them considering the shit we have been dealt compared to them but thank goddness it's turned out this way.

I sat next to my brother's mate who pointed out a simple fact when Thornton outmarked Carlisle - Thornton is a 200 game player and Carlisle a 10 game player. Meyers is, what, a a 50 game player? In each contest the ball was kicked perfectly to advantage.

And this is Carlton's great problem.

It has no good, young key position talls coming through and is relying on ageing hacks like Thorton and SANFL/VFL good bodied players like Laidler & Duigan to take KPs or key roles (Watson tried & found wanting multiple times. They would have to play out of their skin to be beat the best and we are nowhere near the best.

Their list mgmt looks screwed and their list unbalanced. They Kane Lucas instead of Talia/Carlisle and that decision may be the one that prevents them winning a flag. I'd expect them to go after a quality, KPP big time this off season.

They may have pantsed us today but we have young, quality KPPs (Hurley, Pears, Carlisle & Hooker when fit) and a young developing midfield (Zaka, Melksham, Colyer, Prismall, Hocking) led by Watson & Stanton neither of who is over 26.

Their window is now & next year whilst Judd is still at the top of his game.

:screwy:

Their best quarterback/tall defender is a 36 year old who played with Jobe Watson's Dad.

A shame they can't find a midfielder who can play a sacrificial negating role on Laidler and Yarran like Robinson has done to Fletcher twice. :smoking:

Still, they make a fair point about our recruiting stuff ups ... drafting run of the mill midfielders like that Murphy guy when we could've had a great KPP like Gumbleton.

They can talk up Carlisle as much as they like but they will be crying next season when Levi takes a big step up for us and then they will see what a good young KPP can do. They are our bitches

All year I have still been hearing from Essendon* supporters that they own us. They were very vocal in the lead up to the elim that we were "scared" of them.

Well, by the time the 2012 season starts it will have been 2 years since they beat us!

The SEN soapbox has been interesting of late. Many Carlton people hurling shit on top of Essendon* people, the same who were crowing all week in the leadup but have suddenly gone to ground. That is until last night when one guy called in to "counter those Carlton muppets" by pointing out that Dempsey and Winderlich have been out all year, and that if they had a full team they'd flog us.

Before it was "you only flogged us because Watson, Hocking, Pears and Fletcher were out", but it turns out that all-along the secret ingredients were Winderlich and Dempsey.

We're screwed when those guys come back

They are seriously the biggest sore losers of all. They love to dish it out but just cant take it. Most of my wife's family are Essendon* supporters and they have all blackballed me. Hell, even my Collingwood supporting friends have a million times the class and grace that these @#$%&! wits have.

My wife has warned me to back off as they are really getting upset. Just makes me go harder.

Don't we have it over everyone (well, all the old skool clubs anyway)?

We've given them almost a decade of shite to catch up and none have been up to the task.

I was going to point out that we were missing Waite and Kreuzer. But that would be stupid. They're no match for those household names Winderlich and Dempster.

What's that?

Oh yeah, Dempsey. Sorry.

Deano and I share the view that the hatred of Collingwood is borne of a begrudging respect. The way you 'hate' a Wayne Carey, a Dermot Brereton, or any other champion who you respect any time they aren't playing against you. And that begrudging respect is reciprocated by Collingwood supporters. Well, the ones who aren't ferals that is.

But Essendon*....that's all about jealousy and pettiness, sniping and cheap shots. And typical of the cowards and bullies their players are on the field, their supporters are bullies and in your face when they have the upper hand, but nowhere to be seen when the shoe is on the other foot.
