Just on Dawes... What would we have to give up to get him?
Perhaps if JR goes to GWS and we get a mid-end of first round pick compo pick we could trade that as well as our first round to the flith for dawes and a 3rd round? Worth it?

Dictator McGuire would never allow Dawes anywhere near Princes Park

Not me. Would love to have him.
Would compliment Eddie & Jeff beautifully and take the pressure off Waite.

I'll have him.

A hard working, ball crushing, straight kicking behemoth.

.....and he speaks well.

What's not to like?

He is a good player, no doubt.

It all reeks of trying to buy a premiership which I personally don't like.

How do you think we won the others? Good luck? Not all our previous stars came from the Bendifo league...
Barassi was first followed by a lot of others
Wells
Spalding
Rice
Kernahan
Bradley
Dorotich
Madden

If we got Dawes, that would open the premiership window.

I just don't think we need to be going down that road with a player who's asking price, both trade and salary wise, could strangle us in the near future.

Not denying at all the rewards that the practice has brought us in the past. I just feel we are close enough to not be so drastic at the moment.

It's probably just a Collingwood thing.

Weren't we willing to pay up to 600k for Mundy or Brennan last year. We've had to re-sign some grerat players this year but we must have a fair bit of room still in the cap. Houlihan retiring will clear out some more room and I couldn't see McLean being on anywhere near the same contract after next year if he's lucky enough to get one.

Trading with Collingwood, that's another matter but maybe reality will finally hit them if it looks like they'll lose him for nothing.
