especially the bit saying gibbs cannot lift his arm above his head when i saw him lifting both arms well above his head after he got injured. unless he done something to aggravate it since then i don't see how the damage could have worsened to the point where he now has much greater restricted range of movement.

and surely you couldn't just imagine you saw a cyst blocking an artery and then realise later that it's not the case. :?

Gibbs is likely to miss the game with an injury to his shoulder joint, given he cannot lift his arm over his head and is still in considerable pain.

All season long, players who've had no chance of playing have been described as 'fair chance to play' 'should be right'etc.

Yet they're publicly stating on Tuesday that Gibbs is no chance. They've even got Saam Lane (big Carlton supporter) reporting in The Age "Gibbs and Kruezer may yet travel to Perth, but it would merely be to assist with coterie functions"

Sounds like they're very keen to get the word out there that Gibbs is gone. This runs counter to their entire approach this season, and I'm not sure why.

Hoping it's because they're trying to pull a shifty.

That was my feeling too. When do we talk down a player's chances?

Kreuz will be out but I have a good feeling about Gibbs.

They ruled Kreuzer out publicly last week on Thursday night, instead of drawing it out till game day. Maybe they've decided that it's finals time, and they aren't going to get bogged down by playing games and having media hassle them about 'will he/won't he' etc. If so, I like it (don't like it that they're not playing though  )

Just on the injury to Gibbs, I did the exact same thing a couple of seasons ago, got smashed and out on the field I was able to move my arm around much like Bryce did on the weekend. I could get it above my head and had fairly good movement in the joint (still with pain mind you), as the week went on though the joint became really sore and the amount I could move my arm really diminished. I missed the next week and returned the week after only to cop a bad hit early in the game and do the AC joint again.

Now I was not an elite athlete, I didn't have access to world class doctors/physio and I didn't have the option of jabbing myself up with drugs to make the pain leave on game day... All of which Bryce does.

So all I am saying is Gibbs moving his arm around doesn't necessarily suggest a minor injury in my opinion and I have no idea if he will play this week

Thats exactly what Ratts said this morning.... mindful that a knock might aggravate the injury and that wouldn't be fair to the other 21 players.

Sounds odd that the club would be flying both Gibbs and Kreuzer to all the way to Perth (approx 4.5 hours) for just a "coterie function" as claimed. You'd think they would be better off back in Melbourne receiving specialist treatment in case we make the prelim.

If they are at Melbourne airport on Thur morning then expect them to be playing.

Have been told by a "good source" that he is out for 4 weeks.

Hope the "good source" turns out to be a "dodgy source"

Again, if he ain't 100% I don't want him out there.
1) In finals you don't want anyone who isn't tip-top
2) The risk of making it worse (as is sometimes our habit)

Remember, there IS 2012 as well.

Carlton concedes on star pair

Quote:
CARLTON coach Brett Ratten has conceded his team will almost certainly need to defeat West Coast without Matthew Kreuzer or Bryce Gibbs.

Gibbs is fighting a losing battle to recover from a sprained AC joint that he suffered in a heavy fall late in the elimination final against Essendon*, while Kreuzer is still struggling to overcome a mystery numbness in his left foot.

...

"[Kreuzer's] probably unlikely to play unless something changes in the next 48 hours," Ratten said from Visy Park on Wednesday.

"Over the last 48 hours we thought we were on top of it, but we still can't identify exactly what it is, so we'll have to just wait and see.

"Unless something changes [he probably won't travel with the team], but if it does he'll travel and play. He won't travel unless [we're confident] he'll play."

The only thing the club is sure of, according to Ratten, is that Kreuzer is not suffering from debilitating Compartment Syndrome.

Gibbs' injury is a lot more straightforward, but the result in terms of selection for Saturday's semi-final at Patersons Stadium is the same.

"The likelihood is that it's very slim that he'll play," Ratten said.
