If Gibbs misses, the obvious replacement as a high half-forward is... Walker.

That leaves a spot down forward to fill and that can be filled by Hammer. You lose some run in the forward line, but you get added flexibility. Thornton and Setanta can be called into service down back or in the ruck and you don't lose your target.

But then, as much as I admire his tenacity, I'm not sure if Davies is the right option as a sub - especially in the west.
Touhy or Russell would be the most obvious options...

If Gibbs doesn't miss then it's Hammer for Davies and Ellard / Robbo / Joseph end up as sub.
None of them deserve it, but they're all 'extra' runners. Ellard is most likely the unlucky one, as Joseph is a role-player down back and Robbo is the same up forward. Ellard is more of a pure midfielder.

And of course all this ignores the idea that Kreuzer might just be fit and raring to go...

Good to have these selection problems.

I suppose we should suspend judgement until we beat a top 4 team....but I think when we bring our 'A' game, our tackling and defensive pressure makes us a very tough opponent for ANY side now....

Gone are the days were teams regularly broke our tackles and we gave away numerous free kicks for illegal tackles. I'm not sure if it's improved technique or attitude (probably a bit of both), but credit to the club for making such improvement in this area over the last 12 months. And our press is one of the more effective in the AFL now.

The challenge is for us to play with that intensity consistently and to sustain it against strong finals hardened teams....

FWIW, I think a key factor in this week's game will be how quickly we move on from yesterday's win and focus on WCE. There's a risk that, even at a subconscious level, the club as a whole will feel it's achieved what it wanted for 2011 (win a home final) and not be TRULY hungry enough to push deeper into September.

I hope that the players aren't buying in to all the 'back slapping' that has gone on for the last 24 hours. It was a very good performance yesterday against a middle-of-the-road opponent - the players got the job done in front of a big crowd and it was fantastic to celebrate our first win in a final for a decade. However, it'll amount to very little - IMO- if we don't put on a good show in WA this week...

In a way, I'm quite glad we're playing interstate. Perhaps going away as underdogs might help bring the players together for the challenge. Of course, the downside is that if we make it through, we'll face the task of a Preliminary Final on the back of a WA road trip.

I like to think that the hunger is there and that we're not on too comfortable terms with ourselves after yesterday. In fact, there's always the possibility that rather than make us complacent, the win yesterday will lift a weight off the playing group, give them a sniff of finals success and open the flood gates to our best football? I really think we're good enough to beat the Eagles in Perth IF we are mentally switched on...

Anyway, FWIW - I don't reckon there will be many changes. The ruck situation is probably the one to keep an eye on....

As well as Warnock did yesterday, I don't think we can expect him to back it up against Cox & Nic Nat without some help. No offence to Setanta (who I don't mind at all as a forward), he's a poor AFL ruckman. So if Kreuzer is fit, I think bringing him in for Setanta is a no-brainer. I know Setanta did OK yesterday, but Kreuzer is simply a better player and I don't think we should fall into the trap of going too tall.

If Kreuzer doesn't come up, you'd look closely at Hammer instead. However, it depends on whether Hammer can go into the centre bounces. If he is playing as a permanent forward (and doing boundrary throw ins) and can't do the centre bounces because of his knee - and I didn't see the VFL game yesterday to know how much ruck work he did - I'd almost be leaning towards sticking with Setanta, simply because he's a better forward.

Davies is another interesting one. He keeps getting picked by the MC when I expect him to be dropped, so it'll be interesting to see what they do with him. Perhaps he'll come into the 21 and Ellard or AJ will be the Sub? Or perhaps Davies will be dropped for a Bower, Tuohy, Lucas or JR? I suspect if Gibbs doesn't come up, then Davies will probably come into the 21 and one of Bower, Tuohy, Lucas or JR becomes the Sub. I'd choose JR...

Who replaces? Tuohy or Lucas? Or someone well outside the box?

Sticking with the changes I mentioned earlier, I'd bring in Tuohy. He's looked impressive moving further up the field so perhaps he could play as a high HFF that drifts in late, or we could bring Yarran into a role further afield.

The next in form CFC mid would be McLean it seems.

The big worry we have is players relaxing after winning a final. We will get smashed without the right intensity this week.

Yeah there is a danger of that happening Kenny...but I have a feeling they know they have bigger fish to fry....they have looked far more excited after some wins during the H&A than they did on Sunday...St Kilda and Sydney to name a couple.

Is the cheersquad definitely up the other end for the final? Because it's weird to have all the Carlton blocks near each other then the cheersquad up the other end

I'm in that section too. It's pretty much right on top of the Carlton race. You will get a good view of the banner and cheer the boys off the ground after the win.

Sounds like we've got a bit of a TC section going!

How long does it take to get from the airport to the ground? I arrive in Perth at 3:15pm and the game is not until 5:50pm local time so I know that leaves plenty of time. Will there be a meet-up/pre-match function or anything?

Cox didn't join the Weagles light training session today. Still has a dodgy back from the weekend.

Kerr is supposedly a certainty to play.

This is going to be a long week in Perth. Eagles bullshit being sprooked at every turn.

How many news chanells do you think ran Nic Nat's mark against the Bliues from rnd 14?

:fight: Cmon the Blues

You will know if someone yells out flower or :garthp:

Google says 3 hours if you walk...

In a Taxi, would take about half hour to 20 minutes until you get close to the ground.....

as for function keep an eye on WA Blues website or this thread. I'm sure there will be some sort of get together somewere.

Smash Priddis, maybe tag Shuey

Laidler on Lynch. Henderson on Kennedy. Jamison on Darling. Change as required.

Gibbs or Walker to give Hurn something to think about.

I go for this - even if Kruezer's ok.
The kid's good, but he's struggled the past couple of months.

Who for sub though?

Actually I've changed my mind.
Warnock, O'Halpin and Hampson in the same team just doesn't feel right - so Hammer misses.
Give Davies a full game in the two and sub Lucas or Tuohy.

So now I'm quoting myself ...

I'm in 113.

No doubt i'll be surrounded by vibrant, youthful eagles supporters with an average age of 55+.

I hope they like the company.
