Me thinks Davies held out Tuohy based on his performance as a fwd last week and what the MC may perceive as his greater versatility. Ellard for Lucas, meh.

Bower was very good in the Ánts and I thought he was a certainty. He makes mistakes but he just uses his body so well and reads the ball in the air very quickly.

Lucas looked a very good player in the first half and moved really well.

I suspect the MC expects a tough encounter and the harder smaller bodies come in.

Let's hope they are right.

Agree that Lucas and Tuohy are very, very unlucky. However they are both young and will be part of finals campaigns for years to come

Davies is a bigger body and a bit more aggressive. Credit to him for being picked in our finals teams the last two years, especially after many (inc myself) thought he might get the chop this year.

Good call. Davies showed some good signs up forward.

Davies is an interesting one. I am surprised by his inclusion as well. I haven't been impressed by him this season, nor have I been unimpressed. I'm neutral, which means he hasn't really been a stand-out.

Lucas and Tuoy made way probably due to their lack of finals experience, so it is interesting Davies stays in ahead of Russell and Bower.

Davies lives to fight another day - good luck to the young fella - hasn't done much wrong without doing anything spectacular either. At 188 cm same height as Russell Tuohy and Lucas so must be doing something that the others are not

I wouldn't be surprised to see Bowe in for one of Jamo or Thorton

Hard to follow the logic. Lucas is recalled for the dress rehearsal for the finals and plays very well ag the St K hardnuts. Ellard is dropped after playing every game which was an odd decision, but having made that decision it is odder to recall him. Davies wasn't bad and maybe will be used as a defensive forward. Tuohy was brought back in, played very well and is now dropped? If he was considered to be worthy of a recall how can he then get dropped after playing well? Very odd decisions. And no-one on the bench looks likely to be a useful sub. A sub needs to be an impact player, and while Robbo is that it would be madness not to have the kamikaze kid starting. I would have thought that Lucas would be an ideal sub. Very hard to reconcile the decisions of last week with the decisions of this week. Strange decision to recall two players, have them play really well, and then reward them with omission. Maybe there will be late changes. Would have thought Tuohy and Lucas with their run and carry would be well suited to the Dons at the G.

It is interesting. I think a lot had to do with Carrazzo and Jamison going out, which made the way for Lucas' inclusion.

To be honest, I have seen a fair bit of the Ants this year and Davies has been a better performer over the year, especially in the second half of the season. Bower has had to fight injury all year and has never really got to a level where he can consistently play AFL.

Furthermore, Davies has played more senior games this year, is in better condition and played really well as a versatile defender and forward last week.

Davies is a better choice than Bower right now.

surprised and a little disappointed. This is a team picked for a slog in the wet and lacks polish. Joseph Duigan Ellard Army Davies Carrazzo Robbo are a good bunch of guys who'll push the ball forward and bodyline the ball but are not the safest with the ball.

I would have had Tuohy, had him in my best half dozen last week. Lucas hasn't had enough exposure and faded last week so I'm ok with him missing.

Thornton forward is a worry for me.

If the forecast improves, I'd hope we inject a bit more class...

To those who think Davies performed well as a forward, you have got to be shitting me. Won out on the lead, and then did what with the ball? Go back and watch the tape.

Trust Ratten & the MC to con themselves into thinking they can give blokes a 1 week spell and then pull them back in for performing players. The only thing that has seen that list of players survive over the ones who have gone out is a tendency towards defensive application. The problem is some of them add nothing else (Davies), some of them aren't showing the leg speed to do as they wish (Ellard) and others don't do the damage required with the ball to justify the role they may end up with (Carrazzo).

We need some polish to finish off the hard work of others, and when the pressure is really on, Yarran, Simpson, Judd, Murphy & Gibbs don't always cut the mustard because of the body work and hard running they do. Why not bulk up the numbers with some extra run and class?

Teams are onto us now; we've gone from being lethal in possession and weak defensively, to being defensively strong and overwhelming through midfield, but offer huge opportunities to sit back and play for the counter. It's almost a complete reversal. Lucas & Tuohy showed they would be up for this game through their efforts last week. They competed in the air, on the ground and at the contest.

The MC have lost me. When the pressure gets turned up defensively, prepare to see a team half-filled with headless chooks who don't know how to create a proper forward 50 entry. We can only hope that the smarts we have in the team don't allow this to happen, but I am disappointed in our methodology as the season has progressed.

Sakc Russell Mk II.

Davies bolting forward and lowering his eyes to hit Setanta with a lace out pass must have been missed.

Doesn't carry the ball. :donk:

You only had to watch Davies link up in a VFL game and run hard to weight another lace out pass over Thornton's man to know that he can play. He could have gone for the open goal, but went for the selfless pass to a teammate in a better position.

Lucas didn't miss last week.
