Can't say, considering what's been going on, that it's a surprise. Something must be up with JR. He's too good to be stuffing around in the Bullants. Sounds like he's either leaving and is being 'punished' or got found that that he was considering a move and is 'earning trust' back. Whatever the go is, he should be playing.

Bower's stock is low and rightly so. He's done nothing for two years and is a lottery ticket now. The draft last year was a fair reflection of where the club sees him I would have thought. Big preseason ahead for Watson and McCarthy (and Hendo).

Check JRs thread re Doc's take on why he isn't playing.

You can just picture him checking his phone constantly can't you?

If you knew his number you could be a real prick and ring him but hang up before he could answer. It would be doing his head in.

Why would a player who is contracted for 2012 meet with GWS?

Ratten was correct to say that we wouldn't play anyone who has signed with GWS, but we would gladly throw an "expendable" senior player or two their way to get O'Meara. Even if they played in the finals. And that's not Russell who helped us knock off the Crows with a vital goal this year.

FWIW I give up my time to help the Ants on match day. Each week the coaches request a few players to be filmed on an iso cam. I ended up with the job last week and Russell was one of the players I had to film. Now I'm not sure what the coaches do with the footage but I can imagine it is because they review it and see what the players are doing right or wrong and then decide whether they're due for a call up.

So I can't imagine the club would be wasting resources on him if they believe he's going to GWS.

FWIW I thought Russell played really well last week to and was expecting him to get a call up.

Damian Barrett said on the footy show a month or so ago that Russell did a mini pre-season on the Gold Coast when he was originally dropped from the side. I'm pretty sure it's just a fitness this with Russell. If he gets through Sundays VFL final unscathed I can't see why he won't come back in to the senior side.

If this is true ... would be unhappy if JR left ... but the Bower one would not concern me ... I think we have better options.

GWS can sign players out of contract next year just like they are signing the likes of Ward and Davis now. So theoretically they could be meeting to line him up to sign this time next year, or perhaps trade for him this year.

I hope the good Doc is on the money though and it is all fitness related.

If we're punishing JR, why is he an emergency. Surely if he's out in the cold, he wouldn't be considered.
I'm glad for inside mail but the whole JR scenario sounds like a furphy to me. The guy is a confidence player and IMO, unfortunately a poor preparation and niggling injuuries have impacted his confidence.
