... what? I penetrated the apple pie?

What a glorious misfire that was, NBH. Honestly, that is probably the worst attempt at humour I've seen on a forum in a very, very long time

Wow Sean, bad night? Yes i'm sure everyone thought you penetrated the pie when they saw that photo.

The pie made me laugh.
It was good after all the bitching about a free event put on by the club!
I demand to be heard! Haha!

I understand sean's point. It probably would have been better to do the tour then have everyone sit down, fill out their forms and ask questions, offer comments. When the tour was over you weren't really sure whether to go or hang around etc.

But I also understand SOC's point that it was also about opening the club up to supporters.

I preferred the mini cherry danishes to the mini chocolate muffins myself

Yeah, they were very excited about what is being rolled out Friday. Apparently it's supposed to be an ongoing thing - ie over the next few years - not just next year's slogan. Very interested to see what it is.

Having had a bit to do with the club for 6 or 7 years now I can say from my experience that the club has really advanced at an enormous rate in the last 12 months alone. The club now has a lot of savvy people in there working hard, I'm pretty excited about what they might produce in the next few years and I was pretty cynical just a few years ago.

There's no doubt that the club has advanced, albeit at the behest of some supporters who have been kicking and screaming (and whining) for the club to hurry up and join the 21st century. They've finally done so, yet what some (certainly not all) fail to grasp is that it is an ongoing process. A daily process. Further to that point - you don't exactly have to reinvent the wheel. You can take bits and pieces from the Seattle Mariners, FC Barcelona and the Golden State Warriors and bring a Carlton feel to it. Make it your own. There's no copyright on a social media idea from another business...but it does require some creativity and some balls...two things that have been lacking at Carlton when it comes to ideas, and how to successfully implement them to the fan base - who will pull back on how much they give (via $ and passion) to the club.

I got called into a phone hook-up with a client in France at late notice yesterday, otherwise I would have attended last night. By the time I left the office at 6pm - I had nothing in the tank and Carlton was the furthest thing from my mind. But I applaud the club for the initiative. It shows they're serious about trying, and they might not get it right some of the time, but they need to be seen trying all of the time and last night was a really good example of what can be done. Now Ian, and the powers that be can delegate some responsibility down the tandem pole to see what some young minds can come up with to build on that. I think they're on the right track.

Id like you to explain the 'joke' because I simply don't get it. Maybe it is funny, worthy of a laugh and all that...

I like how you keep reposting the picture, cheers.

If you don't 'get it', probably time we moved on.

I said when you first posted exactly what it was. Your 'joke' was pathetic, NBH, come to terms with it.

I have no issue at all reposting the photo time and time again because each time its posted and someone sees it I want them to look at it just as I do, and go '... what?'

I don’t think anyone is actually suggesting anything untoward happened with your apple pie

NBH, dane. Really? Really? Yeah Sean's got his back up, and you're trying to provide your utterly dumb attempt at an explanation, but to any competent human being you're making a fool of yourselves.

I, or any other mod, need not remind you again.

Sean, Essendon* do exactly what you're talking about. Coutts would have heard about it a dozen times this week alone. It's actually shit in practice, and not even worth the effort, especially considering the way Ratten is conducting himself at press conferences.

perhaps the point is more....does Ian Coutts need a refresher course in people skills? it's the little things..and making people feel unimportant on an open night...perhaps not so good?
ask yourself if you'd hear a story like that about Jim Stynes.
For me it ties in with what a few people are saying on the 'advertising' thread.
make people feel included...
mean it.
go the extra mile...even if you've heard it a billion times before..be courteous and kind...leave people feeling they matter.

Not saying I agree with it, but that's probably what was running through his head. It's an idea that in order to actually be good, requires the kind of money and time clubs don't have, as they're in danger of trying to compete with commercial networks.
