Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere but does anyone know what day of the week the game will be on? I have a 21st I have been invited to on the Saturday night so I am hoping it is any other time except Saturday night.

On a seperate note a lot of my Bummer supporting mates are way over confident about this one, jesus I would love to smash them again.

From all accounts, Sunday

Very nervous for this one. If we were playing anyone else, I wouldn't be nervous at all. But Essendon*, yes. You never know which way these games are going to go, and I'm expecting we'll be the favourite heading in. Lose this and the shit will hit the fan...

No nerves for me. We'll here the Bombers get talked up for two weeks and how Carlton must win to achieve anything in a faltering season. The reality will be, the boys will come switched on and book the trip to Perth in the second quarter, only the best will beat us in week 1, our motivation goes far beyond playing Essendon*.

I think I'm still haunted by the memory of the Qualifying Final in 2000. We were a far better team than the Demons during that H&A season, but as they say "anything can happen in a final" and they knocked us off in front of a big crowd at the 'G (on a Sunday too!)....

I'm trying not to draw comparisions between that game and this game... :?

But being rational about it, assuming we don't suffer any major injuries in Round 24, we really should win this.

we do all the hard work during the season to earn a home final and Essendon* are crap, losing streaks, thumpings and they get a home final.

Will be a much harder proposition than last time.....no Watson, Hocking or Fletcher that night.

Expect a full-blown Essendon* media love-in for the week prior, and total ecstasy in the media if we lose.

We had no Jamison, Waite, Carrazzo, Russell.

Watson is stuffed, he's half the player he was at the start of the year. Hocking is not that good and it'll be his first game back after a three week layoff.

Crameri played that match, now he is out for the rest of the season. He's their leading goalkicker with 34 for the year, big loss.

Seriously we may start off nervously but I am 100% confident we will win this easily. Of we domt then well we just have ourselves to blame and have serious psychological problems.

I don't understand why we are supposed to be nervous about this.

Essendon* aren't a bogey side anymore.

It shits me to tears that they've made the finals this year though.

Essendon* fell in by default.
Roos have more midfield talent, but just fluffed their opportunities.
Freo have fixated on their unfair injury curse & have been butchering the ball.

Dons deserve to get smashed.
If West Coast were 5th they'd smash them.

We should beat them.
Even if it was at Etihad we should beat them.

The only thing holding us back is psychology.
The Bummers know that and they lift for us.

psychologically we tend to unravel and lose our way if opponents block our forward 50 entries. Having Waite available, even if he gets subbed off, would be invaluable.

Crameri is a big loss, but their defense concerns me more. If either Fletcher or Pears misses that will aid us immensely. Also it means that Hurley is forced to spend some time back - if Hurley is free to stay forward at all times he will kill us.
I agree Watson is on his last legs, but they have a bye this week, so expect him to be back to his best.

can anyone else see a prelim final against geelong on the cards??

yes yes, one week at a time etc..

but i just am not at all concerned with the bombers. they have sneaked into the eight, but default. Of the three times we have played them we have won twice by 12+ goals, and drawn a game when they where absoutely flying and at their best.

we play the MCG better than them, and i more than like our chances against West Coast over at Subiaco to be honest as well.

get to a prelim anything can happen, get to a GF against the Pies ... well ... this state will just about go mental!! you could sell 300,000 tickets for the game, and it would still sell out!!

Also: lessons learned from previous Bummings? (= previous encounters with the Bummers)

One of the most interesting things for me is how to deal with Fletcher.
Some people have noted Robbo's past success against him. Assuming we have a full set of full mids to choose from, would you sacrifice Robbo's midfield presence to do a job on Fletch?

we need to take the emotion of the opposition being Essendon* out of the equation. we need to be more methodical and treat them the same as we would any other opposition and set out to play our game, not allow them to play theirs and crush them.

So...yeah...how much do you reckon we'll need for GF tickets?
