Ratts has improved the team every year. That is a statistical fact. No matter what the game plan is he still needs the players to implement it. The club is still working towards getting all those players on the park at the same time. That is also a fact. As Leigh Matthews suggested..............show some patience.

We went backwards last year...

Hope Ratts doesn't become our version of Neil (yoyo) Daniher.

With Swanettes leading Geelong at Skilled half way thru the 3rd (WTF  ), unless Ess beat Port by 150, we could be playing Ess at the G in the Elim. A loss in that game could throw some doubt on Ratt's future ?

Another loss in an Elim final surely would signal the end for Ratten.

Are you talking about the Zatopek 10,000? Ratts better get into training soon...

Really?

How so?

2009 we lost an elimination final to Brisbane
2010 we lost an elimination final to Sydney in a season we had to adjust to no Fev and had continued improvement from a range of young players
2011 that improvement has seen us finish 5th on the back of that improvement

but if you dont like Ratts...then I guess we went backwards...

Simple as that is it?

Well, I do like Ratts... and I still believe we went backwards last year.

Mull on that for a while...

Could you explain how we went backwards?

I know you shouldn't decide a coach's future on one result, but if the players want Ratts to be their coach beyond 2011, they'd want to make sure they end Essendon*'s season in two week's time.

I don't reckon a first-week fadeout against the scum would go down all that well with the powers-that-be :yikes:

(we'll smash em though)

Could you explain how we went backwards?

It's easy to look at the elimination final alone and gloss over what was a totally inept performance for the second half of that season. There were questions on Ratts and his game plan not only from our supporters, but media experts, ex coaches etc. - granted the players got off too lightly as well. But there's no hiding the fact that we failed to build on a pretty good 2009 and the contrasting feelings after both elimination finals couldn't be further apart. All that can't be blamed on the loss of just one player. We did go backwards last year imo.

Now this year has seen a vast improvement in both coaching be it the improvement of Ratten himself and/or the inclusions of quality assistants, and the confidence of the playing group themselves. For this reason I believe Ratts should get a contract extension of at least one year regardless of finals performance, and the club needs to move heaven and earth to keep together his support group.

But the club had set the bar earlier this year and I fear a loss to the Bummers may force their hand...

I dont love or hate Ratts!!!!. As long aswe win No.17 really soon I dont really care who is coach.

Right at this moment, sitting in 5th Positition (an improvement to last year) and to play another final, most would say that Ratts deserves another year.

BUT..........

if we were to lose to Essendon* by 1pt in the Final, I dare say, most here would be asking for Rattens head !!!!!!!!

Probably. You would hope a bunch of players would be under the microscope too if that were to happen.

Regardless of whether you are pro or anti ratten...it is critical that we do not base a decision on one game alone...that would be far too simplistic thinking!

I'm pleased that the admin seem to be holding off on an announcement till the seasons over. No-ones chasing Ratts - there's no rush.

Brett Ratten will be sacked as Carlton coach if we lose to Essendon* in week 1 of the finals.

Isn't that the big question??? 3 clubs without a coach & there is no mention of Ratten as an option for them!

My only concern is that Ratten has been given the liberty to learn on the job & to me that's not a great sign of a man that could take us to our next flag! But having said that I have been a lot more impressed this year with the growth of our team.

Would have to agree with this but I have no doubt we will win the first final easily against a weak and insipid opponent....
