Why?

The balance of the mix is the area of debate.

Surely if we could secure the right deal, then Etihad would be a good fit for games against teams like port, GWS, suns, swans, Freo and even North as I highly doubt that we could get enough attendance to justify the MCG.

And good teams win the games they should!

I don't accept that we lose because we play at one ground or another, that mentality is for the weak and it's about time we stop making excuses!!!

While we clearly play better at the G, I do agree with you. I really didn't like Murph's response to a question on Before the Game about us playing better at the G and not liking Etihad. He said something about how we definitely prefer to play at the G than Etihad. I just worry that when the players have that sort of attitude it becomes self fulfilling.

Yes. It would be good to hear something like...
'We have had some problems at Etihad, but we are working on issues unique to playing there. Ratts and the team are tweaking the game plan just for future matches at 'Geeitshard Stadium.' Any team who doubts our chances there in the future, does so at their own peril.

Maybe he was just referrring to not liking Etihad from a physical point of view. Our boys seems to get the most niggles and pull up sore after Etihad games, particularly if we play 2-3 times in a row there.

interesting stat:
in 2009 we won 6 from 8 games at etihad (then Telstra)
in 2010 we won 3 from 9 there

anyone know if they changed the surface over that 09-10 break?
or is it just us?

No but we changed our forward set up

Dome suits big marking Forward - B Fevola

We have the small forward structure now and they crowd it out

IIRC the Etihad deals were brokered with the clubs and the MCG deal is with the AFL and not the clubs individually.

Hawks play all 7 Victorian home games at the MCG as a guarantee from the AFL for taking 4 games to Tasmania.

Pies get a good MCG deal as they helped get the AFL out of the requirement to always have 1 MCG final in week 2 and 3 of the finals by playing more games there.

It was ridiculous when in 2002 Adelaide hosted Melbourne in week 2 of the finals at the MCG and when Brisbane hosted Geelong in week 3 of the finals at the MCG in 2004.

So basically to get a better MCG deal when this current Etihad deal expires, it needs to be done in conjunction with the AFL.

the existence of a social club
I was speaking to an avid Richmond supporter today at work and he mentioned some of the benefits he gets being a social club member. Firstly they have their own permanent Social Club at Punt rd. They can watch interstate games there.
Before MCG games, they have pre game entertainment, interviewing old players who then mix with the supporters. He said the former players and supporters loved it. They have regular functions there including showing old games etc.
Just made me think we could do more for our supporters.

Yeah, you're right. Maybe the Sydney Carlton FC Social Club could be at KK's place.
