They aren't necissarily idiots.

I just believe they are outdated.

ok...
but...
it is a tad difficult to take a person..even a prestigous person such as Lethal seriously...
when they continue to blither their way through commentary.
'oooh...good spoil by Laidlaw'.
'gee that Gartlett can run'

seriously.....! I'm not sure he's still 100% poor old thing.

I didnt say I know more than Matthews, just that the game passsed him by pretty quickly when Brisbane's run came to an end and teams started zoning. Its difficult for anyone to keep up with a game they're no longer involved with on a day to day basis, let alone when it passed you by when you were.

I think it was a good article with an interesting perspective.

Remember that the audience of that article is fans of 17 clubs. It isn't aimed at Carlton fans only.

I think a coach of Matthew's standing saying that Ratten deserves a coaching contract extension even if Roos and Malthouse are available, is significant.

Yeah I know. I guess I just get frustrated at the level of journalism in Australia almost at every level. Even today there are reports channel 9 took fake footage of a journalist in a helicopter simply to make the audience think he was "on the spot".

As for sport, the regurgitation of the same information at a such a fundamental level is galling. Then again the Herald Sun is designed to be read by 7 year olds and the Australian goes all out for 9 year olds.

Maybe I have just taken the angry pills today and I will wake up tomorrow and enjoy listening to Hutchy.

Carlton are a big chance this year to win the premiership going on the home & away results against the top4 sides if they can get some key players back.
Carlton's window is open now and not the year after. Ratten needs to make sure Carlton take the opportunities presented to them this year and not the year after or after that.
Carlton are not that far behind Collingwood, Geelong & Hawthorn are the 4 games they played against these teams this year. They lost them all but they showed enough to be able to believe come September.

Instead he is saying;

The premiers of the last three years, Collingwood, Geelong and Hawthorn, look to have this year's flag for the taking, but of the other clubs I see Carlton as best placed to be the next 'fresh' premiership winner.

In other words become happy with your year Blues fans because you are now playing finals again. Since when did CARLTON accept 2nd best? Well actually don't answer I know the answer to this anyway.

FFS, if you think Matthews knows little about the modern game then please only restrict yourself to finger banging monkeys because please don't reproduce.

Ignorant, stupid or ahead of your time.....?; Played, coach and knows more about the game than most do (still), and hate to say, even more than yourself (so exclude the last option)!

My argument would be along the lines of ....

Geelong without Ablett
WCE without Judd
Collingwood without Buckley etc, etc.

Teams move on as will we. SEN flogs will always be flogs regardless. :screwy: :screwy: :screwy:

It is the quality of the bottom 6 players in your 22 that win you flags more than the top 6.

These were the same flogs that said Carlton wouldn't kick any goals without Fevola.

Surrey, I'd love to have some of what you're smoking mate

Seriously, we are not a big chance of winning the premiership this year
You talk about going off form against the top 4 sides. Hmm, IIRC we have fialed to beat ANY of them

Our window is NOT open now

I understand CFC don't accept second place etc, but we need to be realistic as well - the club seem to be by setting the benchmark of winning a home final

You need to be realistic

Garlett, Yarran, Warnock, Kruezer, Hampson, Laidler, Joseph, Gibbs, Henderson, Davies, Ellard, Curnow, even Duigan who's had just one pre season, all thse boys are in our team most weeks and all are still developing

We're not there yet mate, take a chill pill

The other thing to consider, is with the game having evolved so much in the modern era, from kick it long to Pagan's empty paddock, to the flood, to the zone, to the press, from short kicks to long kicks again, what is next? Is it possible things we'll go back to long bombs to the empty paddock? Maybe then Pagan and Co will come back and be in vogue again LOL

Funny thing is I don't see any of the Lethal bashers mentioning his point about Coll being happy to get rid of Mick malthouse as coach - geez if he is that great a coach you'd be mad to get rid of him surely??

agree with all you have said Sugarcane...........

...........with one exception....we will play finals and therefore the season isnt over = we are in with a chance ie the window remains open.

having said that, with a couple of smart additions and another pre-season for some, i would be expecting a very very big window opening up...for the next few years!

Leigh Matthews is by a long, long way the most unsentimental, rational and pragmatic person in football. Almost to the point where you wonder if he actually has a heart and a soul, or he was just created in some super football factory.

Any observation he'd make about us would be based solely on the evidence as he sees it. I agree with him on this one.

Che?

Matthews is outdated. Just listen to his "special comments".

He was on the radio last night here, and Cornesy said his article was "rubbbish", and he doesn't rate Carlton at all (no defence, no forward  )

Lethal spelt it out to him very well, and finished off by saying if he was to coach again at any club in the AFL he'd choose Carlton as the window is well & truly opening.....
