Another strong game in the two's for Setanta (6) and Hammer (3 in half a game) suggests they should force their way in.

Hammer will give us presence around the ground the ground and a power forward option up front. Setanta should play forward adding marking power and a strong aggressive ball hunter on the ground. He is also flexible so can be used elsewhere if needed.

Lucas, Tuohy and Curnow all chances as well.

The Ants game this weekend will be a key pointer.

It will be really interesting to see where St Kilda is at. At one stage they looked almost back to their good form from last year but they might be running out of gas, they looked very ordinary against the Swans.

If North, who are probably as good as a top 8 team at the moment account for them, then I will feel pretty confident going into this game.

In a way I hope it's a competitive game to get us switched on for the first final. I wonder if Henderson or Jamison will get the job on Roo? I guess we will see how Jamison plays in the Ants.

Up for consideration:

Out: Warnock, Ellard, Davies, Armfield

In: Hampson, Curnow, Carlos, Lucas

Warnock lost me the other night, he's lack of strength in a marking contest is standing out. Hammer may not be the answer, it depends which form he brings, the month prior to injury or form prior to being dropped.

Davies hasn't done much wrong, but we need a target, Carlos is that man.

Armfield has been good/bad/shocking, replace him with either Lucas or Curnow, depends on Ellards form at training next week, otherwise both Lucas and Curnow to play.

The way Riewoldt's playing we could possibly use Franchina.

No one suggesting that Jordan Russell show come into the team for Saints game.

What's going on? Pretty sure he came 3rd in our B&F last year.

Thank you captain obvious :donk:

Without brilliant sources like yours, I've got to hang my hat on something I suppose

 like all these.

If Hammer gets through a ful game for the Ants this week, then he takes Knockers spot. I have never seen more feeble efforts in marking contests than his in the first half.......pathetic. Got to the stage where the Hawks were just chipping it high to a contest with Hale and 206, as they knew 206 wouldn't even get a hand on the ball  Kruez is much better in the ruck than up fwd, as he adds a lot around the packs, so him and Hammer definitely our no.1 ruck duo.

Ellard looks shot and is giving us bugger all now. Very Bentick-esque at the minute. Lucas, if he plays one more blinder on the weekend, should come in for the Aints game. He could add a lot of zip to our finals campaign.

Carlos desperately needed to bring the ball to ground for the amigos, and allow us to employ a forward press.

Yeah that's probably curtains for Waitey in 2011. Get him right for a big pre-season.

Last game of the home and away.

You suspect it could be an important game to shape 8 and in SA both channel 10 and foxtel are going live with the the Wet Toast v Radelaide game.

No coverage at all here in SA.

Bring on the 2012 TV rights.

One thing I've noticed in the last few years under Ratten is that VFL form only means so much. If the MC want to get a player into the Carlton side, they will do so almost no matter what their VFL form is like. Likewise, certain players star on a weekly basis for the Bullants but don't get picked for the Blues.

If the MC want to get a Bower, Curnow, Hammer, Hoops, JR, Lucas, McLean, Setanta or White into the side for Round 24, as long as that player gets through Saturday's VFL game without injury, and their attitude (including how they follow their line coach's instructions in the VFL and how they are at training during the week) is OK, they will be selected.

It's obviously a different story if the player is unfit and/or exceptionally low on confidence, but the MC - rightly or wrongly - seem to place less value on VFL form than the structural needs of the team (long-term or short-term) and the attributes of a player to perform a specific role against a particular opposition side.

So what I'm saying is that even though we have a Bullants game between now and Round 24, I wouldn't place too much weight on who is and who isn't named in the best players after that game. I'd say the MC already have a very good idea about who they will pick. They clearly don't get carried away with VFL form...
