Kouta, did you watch Yarran tonight? pull out of a marking contest with buddy?

All good doing it against Freo whilst 30-40 points up and sailing, different story with the hawks bullying us!
evem still, didn't put his body on the line last week. Will never back into a pack or jump when he isn't sure whats around him

So you're saying that Yarran picks and chooses to go after looking at the scoreboard? :sly:

Walls accused Schoenmakers of not going hard enough to gift us a goal.

Nice of Hawthorn to let a soft cock cut them after half time.

Was disappointing he didn't spoil, but to suggest it was because he was scared or avoiding body contact is crazy, if that was the case he'd have just waited out the back.

He did just wait out the back :screwy:
Oh, then he threw his hand at the ball once the mark had been completed

How can you throw your hand at the ball when you're out the back?

Left his man to get to the contest and then made a poor spoil attempt.

Another reality check tonight.
I'm shattered. I'm starting to lose faith in this group - not enough hard, consistent, uncompromising footballers. We don't have enough bastard, ala Wayne Johnson. We're a nice football team.

Riddle me this Batman.

How the hell does 16 steps at about 2.3 metres per step equal 15 metres???

Franklin ran about 35 metres AFTER his bounce FFS

It's his natural arc.

disappointing doesn't quite express it enough. Problem is we saw the exact same first half in round 14 when the last team hit us hard from the first bounce. This is the team that is going to jump us to 4th place. Can't help but feel that the mental resolve of this group is very weak.

ive kept quiet on this now for 3 weeks but cant anymore - DAVIES IS SHIIIIITTTTE

Ive kept a close eye on him in the Ants for about 6 or 7 games, and was rarely impressed, he does ok at that standard, sometimes gets in the bests (like once a month), but for mine he never showed signs he could handle the step up I. was shocked when he got a game a couple of games back, figured the MC were giving him one final chance to prove he shouldnt be chopped from the list, and have since watched him play 3 very average games (he actually surprised me that he could even actually play an average game in the ones) but enoughs enough.

why and how he's retained his spot is beyond me.

why Russell, Bower, Tuohy or Twomey, Curnow arent in front of him (even 3/4 fit and out of form) has got me very very confused.

tonight was hard to take. but it was always going to happen. as I said in the pre-game post, Buddy is unstoppable. Sure Hendo did well and some would say he won the battle, but it's WHEN buddy does his magic, and how he brings others into the play that makes him such a match breaker. To beat the Hawks he has to be goalless, and tonite his goals broke us.

Warnock and Kruze had 2 marks between them, warnock none.

this is also a worry. if Hammer plays well, who goes for him?

survey?

I'd keep Kruze in fwiw, give Knockers a game in the Ants to be BOG, otherwise keep him there and bring on Hammer

even though the saints is a dead rubber now pretty much, we'll take the form of that game into the finals.

Just brought this up in the umpiring blunders thread. ran from 60 metres out to the goal square with one bounce, which he took just after he took off.

But don't mind the rules, every f#%wit commentator would have been beating themselves off such is the excitement of Buddy.

A bit dramatic there, despite Franklin kicking goals we lost because we kicked terribly for 2 1/2 quarters both at goal and to teammates. He'll, had Jamo kicked truly rather than hitting the post twice we'd almost have pinched it despite letting Franklin get a few.

It's not the reason we lost the game Woojee.. that has been discussed ad nauseum already. Just a question really. If you watch the replay, count his steps and see just how far he runs after his bounce. It it's not close to 35 m, I will go hee.

Actually I'm okay. e are not there, but I didn't think we were, am impressed though that we stuck at it.

I would ruck with Kruise and play a more mobile tall. I think Kruise and Warnock are ruckmen - if fit I prefer Kruise in the ruck but not forward or if forward then they cannot have a spare man in defence.

We need Waite in and a CHF - Austin? Setanta?

and we need JR Lucas and Curnow back in that side, perhaps Touhy also.

In a way tonight confirms what we knew in our hearts all along, we're not there yet.
- We're still fragile when teams hit us hard
- We still pick and choose when to give our all
- We still look to others to set the example
- We still can't kick for goal
- We still make critical errors at crucial times

12 pts really does flatter us.

Perfect summation.

One more thing, I was sitting at ground level tonight, and literally couldn't believe how often Hawthorn throw the ball, especially when the umpire is blindsided. I probably counted 15 throws from Hawthorn players. It is a blight on the game.

100% spot on there Spornstar.....was on ground level also, 2 blatant throws right in front of us - it's almost to the point that boundary umpires should be allowed to make such decisions when the field umpires are blind-sided.

Was actually responding to Laguna Legend who reckons you have to keep Franklin goalless to beat Hawthorn which is IMO horseshit.

Bigger bodies, prepared to blanket and crunch around the packs set the tone for the Hawks tonight. We lacked decisive ball win, which cut our spread, which cut our run.

We also lacked good connection with our half back line and midfield which enables good forward thrusts.

We lacked a big forward with a lead and a big forward that can stand under the ball.

The Ellard / Armfield combination probably netted us around 12 disposals of which about half were effective.

Judd was down tonight. Thought Henderson did well despite Buddy getting some good delivery and the latter getting a goal after a minimum 20 metre run without bouncing.

We have too many on our list that are not regular and reliable with their disposal. There is a consistent number (too many) that are very erratic and lack skill under pressure ... and yes Gibbs is ione of them.

Fifth is probably where we stand and there is nothing wrong with that because it means we have gained from last season and the season before and so on. It is making ground from 5th to 1st that concerns me because it will not happen whilst our skill base is so far below the top sides. We have some talls that can't mark and some smalls that can't kick. Both Collingwood and Geelong have a number of brilliant ball users and strong overhead.

No, I'm not.

Oh purlease.......
