I disagree. We need a big scalp coming into finals and the Saints dont count. If we don't win this one, we are not a legitimate flag threat and that would disappoint me.

Agreed. This rubbish about this game not being critical is absolute nonsense. A win gives us confidence, self belief and some pre finals hardening up. We have injuries but so do they. And as someone else pointed out, it puts a little extra pressure on the Eagles to win. FFS, there is absolutely nothing to be gained from an honorable loss at this point. Go for it Blues. As far as I can see it, we are still 4th. Would rather end up 5th on the back of a good winning streak than on a hiccup or two pre-finals.

SydneyBlue said in a post earlier that if we lose its season over. Personally i hope we win but i wont be slashing my wrists if we lose and still believe if we lose we can make a prelim.

I dont think anything we say is going to change the way the team approach this game.

No one has ever said it will. It's just opinion.

No doubt wins will be good for confidence and momentum going into the finals. If we lose, we lose - not much we can do about it.

!@#$%& knob-jockeys.

Not exactly building good will for next year are they.
And even more annoying is their refusal to give us an HD option.
Thank God for Foxtel...but then...you get those commentators.
Is it too much to hope some one will put it all together and give us live, HD with top class callers and commentary?

Geez.

Maybe one day the picture quality can be AWESOME and the commentary SPECTAULARLY GOOD

Been living in Europe for 4yrs. Most other sports are way ahead of us in terms of an overall product. Especially in terms of the official website to support the competition. The AFL website is simply a shocker!!! I'm not sure how long they are in bed with telstra but they need to get out of that deal asap.

Ohailpin to Franklin if he's up forward. He's the one player we have that has the height and pace to go with him. He is fit and has played the last few games for the Bullants so he is more match fit than Jamieson. OHailpin and Henderson down back with Thornton and Kreuzer up forward. Kreuzer and Warnock in the ruck changing up forward with OHaipin taking some fo the defensive throw ins. Depending upon how the game is going you could rest one of the rucks in the last quarter to go with more pace. Switch any of Thornton, OHailpin, or Henderson, around if Hale or Franklin start to cause problems or one of them is struglling up forward. It would seem to me to provide a lot more options for match ups.

Garlett has not been hitting the scoreboard but he provides a lot of defensive pressure and between him, Joseph, Armfield, and Ellard, and I think Ellard may be the unlucky one to miss out. The others all have more pace and Joseph Armfield may be used as a tag team on Rioli to ensure we keep pressure on him all game.

Agree. The Setanta idea gives us a match fit extra tall to counter Buddy and Hale and greater overall flexibility.

Not sure who I would drop to allow for it but on a horses for courses basis Davies would be the one I would drop.

If Russell comes in then Tuohy would be the most obvious swap I would think.

Nothing will ever beat Sam Kekovich’s call of our game for Foxtel when we played against West Coast in 2004 (Walker’s debut). It was so bad it was good. In fact it was hilarious. Kept on calling Trent Carroll ‘McCormick’, even though McCormick was playing for us and looked nothing like him.

Indiscriminate!

Just bring in Bower, our 2nd best defender for flower sake. :banghead:

Just on Gartlett...I thought his game was quite good. His run & carry, defensive work was excellent and was always involved. Didn't convert his chances but you cannot have everything. I can't understand what some people are watching sometimes.

Buddy is a one trick pony. Hopefully Big Irish can blow him off by quarter time.

....but I don't mean in a rude way.

Setanta has not played a key defensive role for the best part of 3 years - Yet posters have come on here saying we should give him the role on the best forward in the competition who is in almost career best form . do you want us to lose on friday.

He has played 5 games all year only 19 out of the last 43 and none in defence. If he lined up on Buddy he would kick 10 . Seriously what planet are some of you from because it is not earth it must be some magical place where all dreams come true because it is not reality .

If Waite is not right and Thornton doesn't come up then bring him in for that forward role but to suggest he come in to play on buddy is cuckoo land stuff

I agree.
Bower has played well on Franklin before so if he is fit and Jamo isn't ready (which is likely) then it makes sense.
O'Hailpin on Buddy would be a disaster IMO.......in 2006 we tried this matchup and it ended in tears.

If Jamo is fit bring him in at the expense of Davies

only one other change and that is Russell for Touhy because I think an out of touch Russell is still better than touhy at this stage - Plus if Russell is the sub he can play back - mid or forward

No Setanta, I think he has run his race TBH.

Possible Ins: Bower, Jamison & Russell.
Possible Outs: Davies, Tuohy (they would be stiff to miss out though)

Buddy isnt a great overhead mark. Perhaps we could play someone smaller on him. Someone who can match his running power but also someone who can outsmart him with body use. Might throw him off his game.

We could also rotate blokes off him.

We dont want to give him space so overall it is going to be a team effort if we are to stop him.

Nuthin like throwing up a curve ball every once in a while, just to make things different.

Setanta can be a Psycho and that could upset Buddy. When Buddy gets upset he isn't nearly as effective as he can be. When Buddy's on fire he can kick bags of 8-10 but when he's having an off day he is useless and frustrated. Setanta could just be the one to frustrate him.

Thornton, Bower and Jamison have all played on Buddy and have all been soundly beaten.

Maybe give Setanta a shot.

Anyone have 3 spare tickets?

Didn't know if I would be able to go or not, didn't book in time, and now I have a Captains club membership that can only get me standing room.

Definitely getting a reserved seat for next season.

I would say that when Bower played on Buddy in 2009, Buddy was 'soundly beaten'. Prior to that game I can't remember who has played on Buddy. I generally tend to agree that Setanta could be a good inclusion this week - especially if there are real doubts over Waite's ability to come back this year.

We once had a player called Bower
Cometh the man, cometh the hour
He took on Lance Franklin
And gave him a spankin'
Take that, you "natural ark" flower.
