Surprised no-one's mentioned Garlett as possibly being in the gun.

Whilst I don't think we'd do it so close to seasons end, there's some traits creeping into his game that I really don't like. Starting to play like a millionaire.

Could perhaps do with the rest. A good game from Kerr in the Ants would have made things interesting.

yeah nah. did you miss that passage of play in the 3rd where he gathers the ball on the wing, takes on and goes past barlow and silvagni and then hits thornton long?
there arent many players that can do that ....

he can rest during the bye

Well said. Gartlett = Gun

If Thornton is to miss a week, and I don't think he will then I think it's:

Out: Davies, Thornton
In: Bower, Waite

Joseph to midfield in order to free up Ellard & Judd more, Lucas the first emergency depending on how Betts, Armfield & Yarran pull up. Setanta or Hampson a slim chance to replace Kreuzer.

I can't see Waite coming back for this.
Saints game at best.

This is what Ratten said in the post match press conference: "Michael Jamison looks like he'll probably play [against Hawthorn] so that will be fantastic for us. We'll have to wait and see what happens with Thornton. [Jarrad] Waite will be an 'assess.' He's a day-by-day, a bit like Jamo, but Jamo has probably made a bit more improvement last week."

So it looks like, In: Jamison

100% spot on......I'm not understanding the weekly call of 'Out: Davies' by so many across all forums - has done his job for all 4 weeks he's been in, doesn't get a lot of the ball himself, but certainly shuts his opponent out of the game completely. Watching him in the background of play today & he never stops bumping, blocking, shepherding - basically being a nuisance to the opposition, whilst creating space/protecting his teammates who have the ball in their hands. Couldn't be happier with & for him at the moment - has been given a chance after I personally doubted we'd ever see him in Navy Blue again with emergence of Duigan & Laidler & he's thoroughly grabbed it......just as AJ has also done. Credit to both of them.

Davies has been solid and has showed his potential. However, we are two games away from the finals and it is vitally important that we are now putting our best 22 on the park.

Fair to say that the MC will be looking for Jamison, Waite, Russell to all come into the side. Given that, guys like Davies may miss out. Nice to know that we have some decent back up should the need arise.

Why is Waite a "day-to-day" proposition? What does that even mean?

Excited to see how the coaching staff handle Hawthorn's ball movement from defence to attack.

Russell has struggled all year and shouldn't be considered just on 2010 form.
Davies has been selected to perform a role which he has done and if there continues to be a role for him to play he should continue to be selected.

Need to get Jamo, Waite, Rusty into the side
therefore
Davies, AJ, Army,Tuohy, Ellard in the gun.

Great situation to be in where guys playing good footy and fulfilling their role will miss out.

Can we be successful when we're relying on Jarrad Waite? Year to year he struggles to play more than 2/3 of a season.

re: team selections for the finals

I think the MC is happy with the team balance, so if a Jamison and Waite are to come in they would replace other KPP players. I don't agree with the view that Henderson / Jamison is the ideal defensive KPP duo and think that if Jamison comes in, Henderson would need to be moved. The half-back line is working well mainly due to the flexibility of Laidler and the selflessness of Duigan, among others.

For Waite to come in I think Thornton would be in the gun notwithstanding a great game against the Dockers. Thornton as a swing-man is pretty dangerous and may be saved depending on how the remaining defences work.

I'd see from here:

Jamison <> Henderson
Waite <> Thornton (but he does bring something else so perhaps the utility mix changes here)
Hampson <> Warnock
Russell <>Davies

Lucas is an interesting one as he was good defensively last year but can run through midfield, so perhaps
Lucas <> Joseph

Armfield stays. He annihilated Hill and still kicked a goal. He's had a good month of footy.

In recent weeks, Garlett:

vs. Fremantle - 1 goal, 2 tackles, 1 goal assist
vs. Melbourne - 2 goals, 4 tackles, 0 goal assists
vs. North Melbourne - 1 goal, 6 tackles, 0 goal assists
vs. Essendon* - 1 goal, 4 tackles, 0 goal assists
vs. Collingwood - 1 goal, 2 tackles, 0 goal assists
vs. Bulldogs - 0 goals, 3 tackles, 0 goal assists

In comparison to Betts:

vs. Fremantle, 6 goals, 5 tackles, 0 goal assists
vs. Melbourne, 1 goal, 6 tackles, 4 goal assists
vs. North Melbourne, 1 goal, 2 tackles, 2 goal assists
vs. Essendon*, 8 goals, 3 tackles, 1 goal assist
vs. Collingwood, 1 goal, 0 tackles, 3 goal assists
vs. Bulldogs, 1 goal, 0 tackles, 0 goal assists

I'd say that a lack of genuine competition for his role is probably keeping him in the side at the moment. Too much lairizing at the moment, makes me tear whats left of my hair out. That passage of play on the wing was impressive, but a greater reflection of Silvagni not killing the contest when he could have. He's that x-factor that every team needs in September, but right now, even if its just for one week, either this or Saints game, give Kerr a game, send Garlett back, perhaps with a view to bring him back in, but a quiet reminder that his spot isn't certain. I wonder if Kerr being the travelling emergency may have been with this in mind.

Why Bower?....

Leg speed and reach advantage over Davies. Leaves the door open for a plan B on Buddy when Henderson inevitably fails in the role.

Agree, I don't think Hendo can go with Buddy all day and Bower has done reasonable well on him in the past.

Hendo had a big game against Buddy against the Hawks at Launceston when Brisbane beat them there in 09.

Also thought the brief amount of time he spent on him last year was fairly decent.

I'd give him first crack at him, with instructions for Duigan to play a few metres ahead, similiar to how we played Cloke. Franklin isn't that big a threat overhead or in a pack, ergo, if we cut off his leads, we go a long way to shutting him down. Look how much better we looked in the Pies game when we realised so many of their leads went to Cloke, and we played Joseph a few metres ahead.

Jamo plays, he goes to Hale. Laidler to Breust if he's not the sub.

Ratts said that Jamo would play this weekend - didn't say where though.

I would be inclined to give Thornton the week off - he's going to be pretty sore - and bring in Bower.

I'm a lot more confident of Jamo returning this year than Waite. Waitey looked like he had op - hope not.

I was being serious.

The guy can play; most of this board have such short memories that they can't remember what he is capable of and are basing their views on a game this year when the midfield got smashed and SOS would have struggled against the supply coming in.

There was a passage of play yesterday however where he went for the snap, missed the goals, got the ball again and thought about going for the snap again yet handballed it off to someone in a better spot.

There was also a passage of play where he snapped it, followed it up, then snapped it again. Both were sky-balls that 75% of AFL players would have steered through the pegs.

Day-to-day simply means he has some inflammation flaring up that's making things difficult to assess. If Jamo is ahead of him then perhaps they both could come in. If that doesn't work out then we do have options, including moving Henderson forward or bringing in Setanta.

Jamison, Bower & Austin are all on the selection table. Bower supposedly had a good game in defence yesterday.
