Doubt it....

I can't work out who got the worse deal:

Carlton fans at the ground who had to deal with the ignorance of the crowd; or
Carlton fans at home who had to deal with the ignorance of the Fox commentators.

Great win by the lads though. Now to put Hawthorn to the sword on Friday!

Now I've never been to a game ub WA, but to me it seems they are the worst supporters in the country in terms of booing whenever an umpiring decision doesn't go their way. Sure, not as feral as Collingwood fans or as painfully smug as Essendon* fans, but WCE and Freo fans seem to have no idea about the rules of the game and are in a constant state of booing umpires. Is that a fair assessment?

The scary thing is Freo supporters are considered the more knowledgable of the two WA groups.

I don't think they do know more about the game than Eagls supporters, they just swear more and have less money.

Very hit and miss game, but happy to get 4 points given that we played a man down shortly after the sub and with Eddie feeling a bit sore after getting crunched by four Dockers.

Ellard was much better in his play today (i.e. more link work, less being 3rd man to the ball), but only managed 73% game time despite all that happened. He was non-existent in the first half, and a decent part of the reason for that seems to be he was on the bench.

Armfield and Joseph relished the opportunity to play more of a midfield-esque role instead of purely locking guys down. Their disposal looked in good shape.

Davies was sharp with the ball, but didn't win much of it and was schooled a couple of times in his defensive work. OK game.

Hendo's last two games have easily been his worst in defence. If he has been locked in as a defender for the season, he's in danger of losing his spot. Thornton may still miss the one game, which could open the door for him up the other end if the club feel Setanta needs more time.

Robbo won a lot of ball but made some very costly errors which essentially cost us 3 goals.

Duigan was used much more sparingly today, which is a start as he did need some rest time. Suspect the Tuohy sub move and bringing in Armfield (played 91%) was part of this.

Jeff was a great support to midfield, but his snaps on goal were horrible. He had two in a row at one point and he sent them about 30m up and 10m towards goal both times. There was a third one also, so it in effect cost him 2 scoring opportunities.

Warnock & Kreuzer were both patchy, but both also played 88% game time, which is a fair old ask for either one. Thornton going off hurt them the most.

Walker needed to be freed up after all the patchy kicking to his leads, and relished the chance to get a clean run at the ball from clearances. Four quarter effort from him even though it doesn't show in the goal tally.

Carrazzo was patchy, but did enough and was probably on track for a 30+ possession game. Some silly fumbles though.

Murphy, Judd & Gibbs were outstanding, while Scotland really worked over Crowley, who pulled out all the stops in an effort to distract and stop him.

While there were 6 rushed behinds, it was still a tragic display of how to deliver the ball to forwards and when to take your shots. We play like Geelong of '09 up forward, except with the intelligence knocked out of it.

Sandilands (4), Silvagni (3) & Fyfe (2) combined for 9 contested marks, which is how much Freo won that stat by (16-7). Another one to pay attention to is the number of goal assists to goals, i.e. how much your team mates are moving the ball well into and around within the forward line. Freo's numbers were 10/12, while we pulled in 9/16.

I think those two sets of statistics highlight one of our key problems at the moment: our positioning with and without the football. We look good in defending kick-outs, but down the other end we look shaky and miss reads for playing on and looking off the opposite flank when there's too many numbers on the other. Worse still, our forward press can be easy to beat at times because it can be quite disorganised from around the forward edge of the centre circle onwards. We've seen a lot of goals scored not just on the counter, but with ease, and today was no exception.

With Jamison set to appear next week either in Red or Blue, Lucas & Kerr putting their hands up along with Houlihan, McLean & Setanta, there's some difficult choices to be made for next week. We're over the hump but we've got to stop playing the waiting game with player's form and back our depth to do the job.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you're a KPP at the Carlton Football Club don't EVER hit "career-best form"

I made this call at the game and got berated by the ferals. "Junk Time Frodo"

Was so good to hear the whinging in the crowd about Judd, umpires, Bett's shorts, Robbo's hardness and how "arsey" Yarran is. I just soaked it all up.

Everytime Judd touched the ball about 3 of us yelled "3 votes". I thought we were about to get belted at one stage!!

A great afternoon - thanks Blues!

Had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon at Subi today

Except for our bad conversion. Should of been over at 1/2 time.

More than happy with the result nonetheless.

'Junk Time' Ballantyne and 'Should Never Play AFL Again' Crowley didn't escape some 'feedback'

Seeing Crowley trying to work over Scotto was laughable. Hack.

Always plenty of support over here. We were in fine form once again today!

Just finished watching the delayed telecast. Some observations from my experts chair in Beijing..
1. Pressure and harassment was excellent all day. Will need all that and more next week.
2. Lachie was ok - contested well and just not big enough to counter Sandilands
3. Eddie excellent but will receive great physical pressure next week. Will be really tested.
4. We really need our bookends Jamo and Waite fit and firing to beat the big boys.
5. Lack of contested marks around the ground, 206 has no presence in that regard.
6. Midfield good, rebounding good, goal kicking - abysmal.

Will need to be really "on" next Friday to get up

Go Blues!

The support for Carlton came over loud and clear on TV. Love it when we hear the club song being sung in the final quarters of interstate games.

Spot on. They have no idea

Can't believe they watch the footy all year and still be that clueless

Especially on the holding/dropping the ball which I know the umps make hard but everything today according to the ferals was a throw or dropping the ball or instant holding the ball

We miss Waite, Jamison and Hampson's aerial presence.

Warnock is surely the worst contested mark in the history of ruckmen. 99% of the time he will be pushed off the ball. Kreuzer is struggling, and has not yet become a reliable marking target, also struggles to hold his ground in marking contests.

Carlton need to clarify a few things with the umpires in regards to Judd. He is getting a lot of frees paid against him lately and some dont seem to make sense.
He picks up the ball cleanly without diving on it. He get tackle straight away without prior opportunity and then carries the tacklers towards our goals while he tries to get his hands free to punch the ball to our advantage.
I am not sure that is holding the ball but they are paying it against him a fair bit.
Its a fine line but we should get some clarity on it leading into the finals.

Nice win by the blues today. That ground suits us i reckon. Hope we get a shot at the eagles on it in a few weeks time.

Plenty to work on before finals and next week should be a good game to test ourselves in a really tight contest.

There is no point trying to clarify it. The change in treatment coincided with the point during the season when it because obvious to all and sundry that he should win his third, and second successive, brownlow.

Given the suggestion that last year's was "lucky" ie. that Judd is an umpires pet, the maggots are now over correcting in some infantile self-preservation tactic.

Agreed grro. Our ball movement and 'run and spread' was very good nearly all game I thought.

I thought to myself how good would we be if we played here every second week. Reckon Subi suits our current personnel and game style very well.

Which probably explains Why we play better at the G....have to be able to adjust to all ground types though....

I don't think its the crowd they're listening too. I reckon its coming from the umpiring dept, someone at the AFL or in the umpiring dept has decided he has the ball too long, it doesn't 'look right' and are instructing the umpires to ping him for it.

Umpiring must be an even tougher gig these days with the twits changing the rules and intepretations all the time.

Agree the anti-carlton bashing on Foxtel was nothing short of a joke....Dwayne Russell and Tony Shaw can go get flower.....Great win by the boys, other than our finishing thought it was one of our most polished performances of the year.

Special mention to AJ, not his biggest fan but have to give the man credit, his game today was excellent.
