Also,
I don't care where we finish this year, as long as I get to see a final at the G.

IMO we will never get to a GF until we can figure out our kick-ins. We figured out how to switch this year, and Yazz has given us some run, with Jamo chipping in & Hendo looking to run also - but we still look like turkeys from kick-ins, even against the Dees last week.

Top teams with great forward presses will continue to waltz over us by 6 goals until we get a well-oiled defensive unit.

You know what, yes we lost a couple of games we think we should have won, but Hawthorn and West Coast will be thinking the same so there's no point moaning about the Bulldogs game. We'll finish where we deserve too, just like they will and if we get beaten in the first week then we weren't good enough anyway.

Don't know about "deserving" to finish where we do. Of course you cop the slings and arrows etc.

But...Hawthorn and WCE appear to have been fortunate with the fixture this year, to our cost.

The teams the Hawks play twice have won 41% of games
The teams WCE play twice have won 37% of games
The teams Carlton plays twice have won 54% of games.

Perhaps now the 8 has pretty much worked itself out people will stop whinging about Carlton's allegedly soft draw flattering us.

We play 4 teams currently in the top 8 twice, and only 2 teams out of the 8 twice.

Compare to
Hawthorn - who play 1 top 8 team twice, 5 bottom 9 teams twice (including the bottom 2  )
West Coast - who play 1 top 8 team twice, 5 bottom 9 teams twice.

Plus the home ground advantage of Perth and Tassie.

So if we managed to finish top 4 then we will have bloody well earned it!

 Very good post indeed. Seems we've had it stacked against us big time. Oh well as "Brownlow" says, all we can do now is win every game we can. That final against probably the Scum is gonna be HUGE. Would love to get Hammer and Waitey back and in form, but sadly looking unlikely that Jamo will be there.

The most frustrating thing is that, while it is our own fault for losing games, few, if any results involving our competition for a top 4 spot have gone our way. Realistically, you can't win them all and usually, your fortunes are to some extent shaped by the performances of the opposition. Generally, the nature of sporting competition produces an unexpected result here or there. But that doesn't seem to have happened this season as the good sides have simply kept on winning, with upsets few and far between.

However, I still believe that on our day, the only team clearly better than us is Collingwood.

So..if we beat Hawthorn..and also Faints and Sea-O...and West Coast win'em all...and ditto Hawks 'cept us....
um...
are we in the 4??????
(i suck at this stuff)
cos...then...
all we have to do is win ALL the next games...except the Bye..who can smash us for all we care. AND IF WE WIN ALL OF 'EM...
Doesn't that mean we get the FLAG??

:?

So if we win 15.5 games and Hawthorn and West Coast win 16 games....somehow we don't finish where we deserve to?

Finishing position is based on games won and percentage if games won are tied. Its not subjective, you finish where you deserve to based on performance.

The title of this topic is driving me insane.
Why I hear you ask??

well...because everytime I see it, my brain goes to that Michael Jackson ballad....
'She's out of my .......sob...life'
Remember that????

but my brain sings....'it's out of our.....sob...hands'
yep. Sheer hell. Horrible.
Apologies if some of you will now also be tormented. (shudder)

No. If we beat Hawthorn and they win there other 3 games they will finish 2 points in front of us.

We need West Coast to drop a game to be guaranteed a top 4 birth.
