Was it really their biggest loss of the season? Awesome.

That is why Essendon* was up against it from the start, and horribly undermanned by the 27 minute mark of the second term.

When Tayte Pears hobbled off with a knee injury the Bombers were without their best three key defenders.

Dustin Fletcher was a late withdrawal with "general soreness'', Cale Hooker was missing with a hamstring and Pears' absence left the Bombers horribly exposed down back.

Add that to the fact the Bombers had their best two midfielders, skipper Jobe Watson and the hard-edged Heath Hocking, out of the side and you had a recipe for a shellacking.

Carlton would be a lot better with Jarrad Waite and Michael Jamison, but the Bombers were too badly hit to be a realistic chance - and there are far bigger challenges ahead.

Mark Stevens  Surprised he didn't mention Josh Kennedy.

I used to regard Stevens as one of the better ones. Obviously his bosses have been into him the past couple of years to grab us by the nuts at every opportunity.

That was fantastic! What a win. Walker & Betts :smoking:

JUDD!

Well done Simmo on your 150th...onya Champ.

Was out and getting scores off my phone, got home and watched the game, and then flicked over to see Cadel win Le Tour.

Whattagame!

Play that way in the third and we'll go along way this year.

Got in a bit late, Agro Jnr enjoyed his 18th Birthday at the MCG tonight.

Anyway they asked me a question - "Whats better than beating Essendon* by 12 goals?"

And I said .... "Not much".

I also let them have a few

Ratts on Walker's mark:

Brave effort with half of the best young CHB and FB in the AFL out of action.

The strange thing is that I recall Ben Reid and Nathan Brown winning a flag last year with Prestigiacomo injured.

Melbourne would have the best young KPD pair if they had picked Hurley to play with Frawley.

Shame Kreuzer took a big pack mark over Pears and converted before he cleaned him up fairly.

Kreuzer. :smoking:

Incidentally, in case we needed reminding again, they had more injuries than us (and apparently we have a lot of #1 picks)
Quote:
Both teams were without key players last night. The Dons were sans their top midfield duo, plus Dustin Fletcher, while Carlton was again weakened at each end by the absences of Michael Jamison and Jarrad Waite. The Blues and Bombers, thus, were further weakened in their weak spots.
Carlton, though, was clearly less disadvantaged, since it still had its absolute cream of number one draft picks - Marc Murphy, Kreuzer and Bryce Gibbs, a formidable midfield and potent small forwards led by Betts. And it had Judd. He alone was enough.

After last night, Essendon* fans may wonder how different the football world would look if the Dons had won Judd's affections in late 2007, rather than Carlton, which was better placed to land this once-in-a-generation midfielder by dint of their ladder position (15th), draft picks and the unique presence of the late Richard Pratt.

Courage indeed, being Walker's stepladder and all.

Scotto is going to be on Game Day today.
