I think you'll find cows have calves - not horses.

I guess now we will start hearing how badly we will miss Bower now....it should be obvious to all now that the guy is a figment of our imagination....

Absolutely agree.....injuries have played a part but he has not lived up at all to his top 20 standing. We need to move on and accept that he is not part of the solution down back..or down forward

Firstly and maybe the wrong place, but good luck to Jake Carlisle on his first game of the year I believe. Play poker with him every week and he's a top bloke. Has massive baseball mit hands so he won't be shy to fly for a mark. I hope he has a good game but of course that we smash them :)

Secondly I liked what I saw from Twomey last week and I think he did "ok" in his first game, and offers a bit.

I think we can match them in defense, it's up forward we have been a worry consistently.

But just they wait until Hampson, Jamison and Waite are fit back in the team. The three best talls for Carlton (pending Kruezer's ongoing recovery) all not playing at once hurts big time.

If they want this they should be able to win it you'd think. Essendon* weren't much chop last week against the Crows.

Interesting selections but I'm sure everyone's opinions will differ after we have a good win

3 things I want to see on Saturday night:

- Walker kick a bag full (still can't believe he COULD win the Coleman);
- Ellard pick up 30 touches to prove a few people wrong; and
- Jeffy take on Fletch, get around him and kick the winner.

Why is it better and how do you seperate it from selections.?

The reason selections are questions is exactly because people believe there were better options, given the current forward structure has not performed particularly well.

Does not mean we won't win, does not mean we hope the selections fail.

....and I did qualify my remarks with "ïf he is injured, that's another story"

How has he been training? What is his fitness like? WHat are the chances his hand could get injured again and leaves us a man down?
WHere is his head at? Will a couple of weeks in the twos be better for him and the team in the long run? Are they planning on bringing him in for someone late?

I wasnt suggesting cheering the selections but I personally believe the selection guys come up with a plan a pick accordingly. I reckon we would be better discussing what we think they are up to rather than venting because it didnt go the way we wanted.
At training on Monday he (Setanta) was moving well but had a glove on his injured hand and looked a little tentative using it.
Coll`s runners beat us last week and i think we have made some good selections this week. (Davies disposal is a slight concern).

Top 3 for Contested Ball, Clearances, 1st Possession etc are Watson, Lonergan and Hocking. None of these boys are playing, which is a massive advantage to Carlton.

If we don't control the game I'll be surprised, but if the Bombers break even in the middle they have that many outsiders playing, they will have the mojo to run over us.

PS: We drew last time with Hampson, Henderson having a combined 10 touches and 2 marks between them. Hooker marked everything, again he isn't playing this time either.

Thornton up forward will be the key. If he can kick 4-5 goals and be a solid go to target then we win this game easily.

Too many here honestly think they know more than the blokes on the MC.
The MC spend all day 6 days a week with the players, living and breathing football, they know what they are trying to do on the field and what they need to achieve that. You need to concede they know more about than us. Once you have done that you can sit back and try and understand what they are thinking. Most of the time it makes sense. The MC are not trying to lose games.

Ratts said in the presser last week that they were going to work on killing marking contests so they can bring down the oppositions count. I am sure the work has been done during the week and by the looks of things it has involved the way players approach marking contests and helping one another out. It looks like they didnt just say " lets put big blokes in that will fix things". Of course they didnt say that because that would rob us of the things that make us good. Run and pressure at ground level. Henda is tall. He was on CLoke. Cloke took 6 contested marks. Height isnt the issue.

Watch the way we go about the way we approach marking contests as a team this week. That will be the way we know if our coaches are onto things.

Agree with everything you say here.

Amazes me that people really think they know better than the coaching staff and MC.

Another ridiculously unbalanced side! :banghead:
We're obviously not fair dinkum about this

If we continue to pump the ball high and indiscriminately into our forward line, Hurley, Pears & Fletcher will have a field day...
Dont understand why Ratts inists on playing Russian roulette at the selection table

scum by 5 goals

Jeffy and Simmo will fire.

We've had 2 losses on the trot - boys will be looking for revenge and who better to take it against?

Everyone (including myself) thought Hawthorn would be in trouble against the Scum because of the lack of height, that was proven wrong.

If we come out with the intensity of last week, we will win. They are missing as many as us (Hocking, Lonergan, Watson, Hooker) and they are just as important to them as our outs from a structural/setup point of view.

I think we will win by about 40-50 points.

What lineup would you send out this week that shows we are fair dinkum?

Don't know what the MC think they are doing with Watson. Bring the kid in to play before a crowd of nearly 90,000 against the best team in the competition, then when he gets towelled (gee, who saw that coming?) immediately drop him. If they had enough belief in him to play him against the Maggies, surely they should have enough faith to let him go around again against a mediocre side.

Setanta is a fringe player when he's fit and firing. Can't see how it could be justified to bring him straight into the seniors when he hasn't played for weeks because of injury, especially when it's a night game. Don't feel it would be in his best interests to be played either, let's see him display some touch with the 'Ants first.

I'm a fan of Ellard, but for the life of me can't understand why he hasn't been dropped. He hasn't been the same since being knocked out. Probably best for his long term future at the club to drop him to the lower level 'till he shows something again.

We are killing Watson. I feel for Aussie and really hope he is a late inclusion but doubt it. Actually think he is now going to get delisted - . The kid hasn't been given a go. Bower seems finished for 2011 and might explain why he was a sub last week, which in itself doesn't make sense either. Interesting selections indeed but glad we didn't rush O'hAilpin in.
We better keep the ball out of Essendon*'s F50.

If Jeffrey gets around Fletch and kicks the winner I hope it's early in the 3rd quarter when we have an unasailable 12 goal lead!!

Not good enough to warrant being brought in a defensive tall, or even a third tall. Another case of Ratten trying what he knows over what has the potential to work better. :banghead:

Ellard has been rubbish and Bower has actually performed well. What lacklustre KPI sees Ellard retained and Bower sent off the deep end? I'm going to get the game tape and watch Ellard's game. I won't hold my breath for anything amazing.

Geez Jim, you're gunna implode soon if they don't drop your whipping boy some time ...

I wish he was my whipping boy, then I'd have a reason to yell out his name in games. It's not that; he just does nothing.

You look back on the game and if he doesn't snag a goal, at the end you wonder "where the @#$%&! is Ellard?" I'm now looking back on last week's game on tape and I can tell you where he is in the first quarter. Gathering himself at a stoppage, running off to the defensive side of it at the bounce, and constantly shifting his position as he generally gets zero touches and zero defensive plays.

He's just nowhere at the moment. I'm sure if he got near the ball he'd be fine, but at the moment it's like it's repelled by him.

BTW, some of you blokes need to learn how to use quote tags. That was a fine mess I had to clean up, just so your posts made sense.

Well, true. You don't and you also don't know what the communication has been from the MC to him. Jumping to conclusions doesn't really achieve anything.
