Geez guys there's some pretty harsh commentary about the selections.
(Lots of :banghead: smilies anyway, some explained, some not).
It's more interesting though if you explain yourselves and rather just venting -- it gives
the rest of us a chance to accept/challenge your views.

You might remember too that we currently lead the league for players
unavailable through injury, (12 - http://www.afl.com.au/injury%20list/tabid/17684/default.aspx)

Relax..

Laidler will take Crameri, who in fact plays more like a medium forward, Henderson will play on the resting ruckman, Hille or Ryder, they both won't play down there together as someone has to ruck. That leaves the young Carlisle whom Davies should pick up. Now if Hurley goes forward as well, we have Thornton who can go down back but the likely scenario is that they probably wont have more than 3 talls at any one time. We still have Gibbs and Duigen helping out and Yarran's run. Our backline is not the issue. I want to see a structured forward line where Kreuzer is the main threat.

Laidler played on a hot Hurley in Rd 3 and beat him well. MC have plenty of faith in the ability of this guy to play tall.

I thought it was Simon White who did the job on Hurley round 3.

White was excellent against them last time - not sure on who though.

It isn't too bad...it's midfield Vs talls.

Carlisle has played <5 games.

Ratten has said in the presser they will work on at least bringing the ball to ground in marking contests.

We should monster them at clearances.

Have we won a midfield V Tall game apart from Sydney in the wet.?

It's obvious that Ratts will keep backing a small forward line despite the results showing that without a large body the rest go missing. That's all well and good but FFS if the little bastards don't get on their collective bikes this week Ratts, can you at least give someone a spell in the magoo's so they know you are serious?.

Armfield must think he's one of the few guy's on the list that has to earn his spot.

We have lured plenty of team into the tall forward line trap and havent really lost one. Small forward lines worry me more.

"interesting" selection...again...

but more concerned about what it says about austin...not wanting to be harsh but methinks it might be time for aussie to work on his CV.

does the dropping of austin after one week...closely followed by watson....count as an admission by the MC that they got their selection wrong ?

wonder if our new CHB, Davies (???) will be able to last more than 1 week ????? FWIW, I'm backing it might be setanta's turn next week !

Now that, right there, could ruin a potentially good story

Oops, could be right.

Maybe they think a similar player in Laidler could do just as good a job?

Wouldn't be surprised if Carlos came in for Ellard, too, especially if it was drier than predicted.

When has a pack of tall forwards bothered us. One tall here and there has been a worry. WC outplayed us all over the ground and outmarked us around the grounds but that is hardly a pattern. If we lose because Essendon* played 3 tall forwards things have gone wrong all over the ground and the whole gameplan that has served us well this year needs a complete overhaul.

Adelaide and Collingwood the first time we played them.

Pies smashed us with Dawes, Cloke, Brown and Jolly.

Adelaide.

On the plus side, it's good that we haven't brought in an underdone Setanta.

We won the Crows game?? Had more run in the end.
Collingwood played their usual forward line and both games we played tall (as tall as we could) also.

I'm not sure our forwards, when required, have really fired up aainst better sides without Waite. I normally back them up, but in close games they have been pretty poor.

Unless he's injured still (and that's still possible) I would have liked Carlos in to bring a bit of urgency and vigor into the forward line. Eddie and Jeffy are great tacklers, but I'd like them to initiate getting the ball more often.

Maybe they're trying to give a number of blokes on the fringe the message that "they're close".
I can see merit in that, but personally I like the idea of giving someone a two game minimum.

but surely giving a player just one game does more harm for their confidence than good....and doesn't give their teamates any chance to develop continuity in their play which is a critical element down back !

I meant the opposition having a small forward line worries me. One that runs and speads our defense. Bit like the dogs did.

The forward line is our biggest concern with the lack of contested marks and crumbing. Jeff and Eddie are due good scoring games so here's hoping for tomorrow night. Also hope the Special K gets to pluck a few big ones as he is normally a pretty reliable kick at goal. Lot of hoping there .....

Go Blues!

If the weather down there is anything at all like it is up here - then you can sort of justify going small

It has been pissing down here for days - bringing in talls to match their talls would be madness if it is wet

The carry on around here re selection is ridiculous. Last week you all bleated about underdone players getting a run, this week you bleat about Setanta (underdone) not getting a run.

No Watson or Hocking, means we SMASH them in the clearances.

Carlton by 976 points.
