We've been sitting top4 all year, any finish below this should be treated as unacceptable by all.
We should be fighting for the double chance and the opportunity to play in a Grand Final!
Next year is a different year with new challengers and who knows what they might be.
Hawthorn is a great example of what might be and what might happen
Seize the moment and take full advantage, forget tomorrow until tomorrow arrives.

ps. I'll fix my error just so we can all grow up.

cease the moment, that's a new one.

and that was the more sensible part of your post.

Apart from the risk of drawing the Eagles in week 2, is there that much difference between finishing 5th or 4th?

History. History says the top 4 almost always make the Prelims.

don't be so sensitive, the fact that we have been top 4 all year may have been fixture assisted, you shouldn't adjust your expectations as a result.

All year I've said I hope we can finish 5th, which was my original assessment. Then give the finals a real nudge and see what can happen. Finish 4th, get beaten in the first week and it's the same thing, with the exception of possible interstate game.

If we finish 4th and get beaten in the first week of the finals, in week 2 we would host the winner of 6 v 7. Home state advantage goes to the team with the higher ladder placing in the first 2 weeks of the finals. Finish top 4 (and assuming Melbourne based teams finish 1st & 2nd) and we get 2 finals in Melbourne whether they be a qualifying and preliminary or a qualifying and a semi final.

If we beat the teams we should, we'll finish 4th, play Collingwood in the Qualifying, then the Saints in the Prelim. End up playing the Cats in the GF.....

Geez ppl worry a lot about what-ifs.

I just want to be able to attend a final in Melbourne, and see the boys push 100% and play committed footy.

I couldn't care less where we finish.
We seem to play better as the underdog anyway

That's the point Bluey, we could end up in Perth for our one finals appearance.

How can we possibly play our only game in perth??? We would need to finish either 7th or 8th to Play our first final anywhere but Melbourne. No chance.......

If we start losing a lot
And Freo win a lot
We might get knocked out by them in the first round

So we better start worrying. Big time

Or we could just sit back and enjoy the rest of what has so far been a pretty good season

Why is everyone under the assumption Hawthorn are certainties for Top 4?

Forgive my pessimism, but it is possible if you have a mildly gloomy outlook.

Seen their draw?

Demons
Freo
Roos
Port
Blues
Dogs
Suns

I'd expect them to lose one of those, perhaps 2.

They will rest half the side against the Dogs and tank, and rest the other half against the Suns (but still win).

They along with Geelong have a ridiculously easy run home.

You have the same predictor as I do.
No matter how hard I try, we still end up in the GF.
