Hurley is a better footballer than Henderson, but he isn't quicker and a better athlete. Both make up for their lack of speed off the mark with anticipation and reading of the play. I'd argue that Henderson has a bigger motor and better recovery than Hurley. Lachie pushed hard to the centre corridor and wings last year to beat Hurley on numerous leads. Hurley has good hands, but he isn't as good overhead as Gumbleton. White did him in this year's draw. Got all of his marks against North on the lead. If White can handle Hurley, then Lachie could get the job this week. If Henderson has to go forward, then Austin needs to come in and play on Hurley.

Don`t you think it would be to the long term benefit of the side to have Henderson being able to play at either end?

No. The guys needs to keep getting better as a key forward. He was starting to contribute and then was thrown back. We have key defenders in Austin, Jamison, Bower, Laidler, McCarthy, Watson, Thornton, White and you generally only need two in a game.

As for key forwards we have Henderson, Mitchell, Waite (who is more a mobile player than key position fwd) & Casboult on our list. Given that I would expect we need to get him comfortable in the role ASAP.

I wouldnt categorically say we need Austin in to cover Hurley if Henda goes back to the forward line. I reckon Laidler could take him after seeing the job he did on Brown last week. Thornton or Bower would be worth a shot. White is smaller than Hurley and he chinned him earlier in the year as you pointed out so we dont need to match his height.

The team will be better drilled at killing a marking contest this week if Ratts comments in his presser is anything to go by.

We will be fine this week without Austin or Watson i reckon.

They never mention things like this if it doesnt involve the Bummers copping the raw end of the stick... After all, they're so hard done by and so so brave....

They also weren't the calibre of Brownlow hopefuls Dempsey and Winderlich.

..i agree with the shrink, even missing Jamo our backline still functions.. ..where-as the fwd line without Waite is suffering.. ..i'd prefer we play Hendo at CHF as well.. ..Thornton reads the incoming ball exceptionally well, but Laidler and Duigan are another pair that read and intercept/3rd man up extremely well too..

We kept Collingwood under 100pts without Jamo. That is saying something positive!

Well, after the last game vs Essendon*, which I took my Essendon* supporting nephew too, quite a stir was made about the amount of...heated discussions I ended up in with others.

Unfortunately, it appears there's a common trend and the incidents that occured weren't the first of their kind. So for this week I've had to vow I'll be good and not end up in any blues (pardon the pun).

What that means is this.

a) no sorting out seating arrangements for others, this includes asking people sitting in the wrong seats to move so others blocking my view can sit down and supporters just being arseholes. Sadly, this category has been reserved for fellow Carlton supporters.

b) no barracking and whinging about umpires. Yes, this means I'll have to sit there like a stunned mullet regardless of whats happening so no pinhead Essendon* supporter feels the need to turn around and have a go at me because I'm rightly pointing out Scott Lucas has his hands in Lance Whitnalls back or Heath Scotland has just had his head taken off. I'm assuming no one was game enough to have a go at me after my reaction to the play on call after Yarran charged off the bench and tackled Hille ( ? ) who'd had the ball for long enough.

c) I'm driving in to avoid the numpties on the train.

Now this to me is POW.
I completely relate to this dreadful behaviour.
But the worse behaviour is, of course from your family, who expect you to behave calmly and decently despite doings of complete and utter eejits all around you.
I could not contain myself at the Coll. game.
particularly when that accursed chant started.
I let the bunch behind me know exactly what I thought of it, and suggested they go and live in Great Britain if they loved all those singalongs so much.
Got a couple of laughs, but a few eye rolls and head shakes from my good ol' kin there.
Bugger 'em I say TBB.

I have to say that I was also looked upon with some dismay when, after that accursed singing started, I requested the navy blue team to kick some goals so we could shut the scum up

Lets face a few facts

First 11 games we got ahead of ourselves.

We are still 2-3 years away. Young KPP are still are in seconds and have played very little football due to injury.
I am talking about the 3Ms.

We have been hit by injury to our 2 most important players Waite and Jamo.

However, IMHO Ratten has coached poorly or is poorly advised by the assistant coaches on use of Henderson (FCOL Henderson is a forward), we should rotate Thornton, Watson, Laidler and Bower on 2 kpp and use Duigan as a cut off player.
Watson must be played, can not learn anything in the seconds, needs to be treated like Flectcher, play him, play him, play him.

This is what we should be selecting this week

Carlton

B: Jeremy Laidler, Bret Thornton, Christopher Yarran

HB: Paul Bower, Matthew Watson, Nick Duigan

C: Kade Simpson, Bryce Gibbs, Heath Scotland

HF: Jeffrey Garlett, Lachlan Henderson, Mitch Robinson

F: Setanta O'hAilpin, Andrew Walker, Eddie Betts

Foll: Robert Warnock, Chris Judd, Marc Murphy

I/C: David Ellard, Edward Curnow, Matthew Kreuzer, Kane Lucas.

When fit Thornton and Sentanta out, Waite and Jamo in.

It is just so important to play Yarran, Bower, Watson, Robinson, Lucas, Kruezer together as much as possible as this is the future. When possible we need to make sure that Scotland is rested to give game time to younger players.

Agree that we need to keep playing Watson even though he made some bad judgements last weekend, but don't agree that Henderson has been a bad move in the backline. Henderson did get beat by Cloke but at the end of the day Cloke only kicked 3 goals and no one in the competition can stop that man at the moment.

Setanta has to come in for height in the forward line until Waite returns but I thought we looked most dangerous against Collingwood when Kruezer was CHF.

Its easy to just say "play all these blokes and that's it" but you have to consider form in the Bullants and promote where they have earned it.

The use of Henderson depends on what you want out of the next 4 weeks (i.e. whilst Jamison is out).

If you want Carlton to finish top 4 this year Henderson must play back.

If you don't care where we finish this year (but have an eye on the future), play him forward and be prepared to lose games we might otherwise win.

At the moment he is a reasonable key back and a less than average key forward.

IMHO, of course.

It's interesting all the experts say Henderson has never played back before yet at the Lions he played his best football in the backline, although it wasn't on the last line.

Am I alone in thinking that a stint down back might actually be good for his development as a forward?

I think any continual exposure at AFL level is great for his development so in that regard I agree with you.

They emit an ambiance redolent of pig swill on a filthy hot day.
A presence of smugness that can cause one's very soul to become lost within an air of indignant malaise.
Feelings of nausea, bowel discomfort, blurred vision and an urgent need to purge oneself of baleful wickedness.

Such symptoms usually attached to some sort of biblical plague!

Whenever I see a 'cluster' of these parasitic, smug, putrefying, morally corrupted dullards - blithely festooned as always in their disgusting scarlet sash - I wonder at the sense of gun control laws in this fair land.

Justice, it seems, can only be realised with the eruption of a highly selective and localised volcano.

If Carlton don't manage to rip through them as the winds of justice should then I'll bloody well lose my chips something fierce.

JJ was right - Ratten just said in his presser that Carrazzo, AJ and White will all not be available this week with hamstrings. (I thought Carrots' problem was a calf?) and Russell will be "close".

Jamo "3-4 weeks away" and Waite "might return next week".

Carlos will be back playing footy this week.
