We hang a lot tougher in games now, we made the 2nd quarter a scrap on Saturday and worked our way back into it.

We aren't a premiership side yet, unless we have everything going our way, we haven't learnt to cope with adversity and be the best. We are better now, but we aren't as advanced as we hoped we were a month ago.

Our worst loss this year was 36 pts to WC. (so far  )

This time last year we'd already been flogged by Collingwood twice (53pts and 48pts), Hawthorn (50pts), and the Western Bulldogs (68pts). Sydney beat us by around 40pts too. We were only competitive for half of one of those Collingwood games. The rest we were rubbish.

We have improved this year.

Still not sold on us.

I know its massively negative to say this, but we really haven't beaten ANYONE.
And seeing the Roos knock off the Bulldogs yester  day just solidified that for me.

Should not have lost to West Coast, and definitely should not have lost to the Bulldogs.
We wont finish top 4 now. WCE and Hawks both have more favorable draws.

There was a lot of fluff written about us being contenders about 4 weeks back. Media love was just to sell papers.
We bully the weak teams and then fall short against the challengers. We really need to win the next 4 to believe we have improved significantly. I'd say we'd also lose to the saints now if we had to play them.

Are you the same guy that came into the Collingwood match thread, all doom and gloom, predicting a 70 point loss?

How'd that work out?

Look I agree that i'm being over negative.
And if the pies took their early chances it could easily have been 70 points.
We had our misses, not not half as many as they did. Don't let the score line fool you.

Dude, I don't think you need to post msgs if your just going to be negative. Who needs to read negative posts from you? If you think the team will lose by 70pts, go sit in the corner and keep it in your head. You don't need to bring down the positive supporters who actually believe in their team, because you have no faith.

Great point.

Apart from Pies, which we were close in both games, we lost to WCE by having no Waite and Jamo injured in the first quarter. When he got injured, we had Thornton, Austin and Gibbs, trying to defend Josh Kennedy, Q-Stick and Darling. Then eventually Henderson went Back on Kennedy, but we didn't have a forward target after that. To Carltons credit, we got to within 4pts in 3rd quarter. We also didn't have Curnow, Robbo, Duigan, Laidler that day.

With Bulldogs, we were up by 27pts, Waite goes down and as soon as he went off the momentum changed. Andrew Walker had food poisoning the night before, did nothing all day due to that. Our key forward become Eddie Betts pretty much that day. Bulldogs midfield smashed us that day and we were outcoached, that game plan worked a treat on us that day. We also didn't have Jamo that day aswell and co.

We play Pies on Saturday and have two KPP out and two of our better smaller players in Russell and Carrazzo.

Honestly, the team has improved a lot this year and the games we have lost we have had KPP players go down early in games or had players missing. The team is looking good for finals, just gotta keep getting the wins. Keep the faith. we are not richmond fans!!!

It's easy to get caught up in media and buy into criticisms that such and such a team is a contender, such and such isn't, we're flat track bullies etc...it changes every week because football is just so inconsistent at the moment.

We get beaten by the Bulldogs so we're shit. North Melbourne beat them. Collingwood ANNIHILATE North Melbourne, we pull up 3 goals and change short. West Coast beat us, St Kilda beat them, we beat St Kilda. Essendon* beat Geelong, we'll THUMP Essendon*. And it goes on and on and on.

Everyone's playing a bit of the Demons' rollercoasterball at the moment. I'm not too concerned we haven't stamped our authority in the top 4 yet - on the siren to Geelong, A total of 47 points deficit in 2 losses to the Pies (average for them would normally have been twice that) and yet to face the Hawks. We've proven we're competitive with the big sides and all of the games we've dropped against bigger team have been winnable. We're certainly not far off the pace and on our day I'm confident we can roll anyone. That's the key though, starting to string these games together again and getting some consistency back. I think it's safe to say we've been ahead of ourselves since "They Know We're Coming" but each season we're inching that little bit closer. If we can hang tough and keep 4th position and let's face it, ALL those games are winnable games for us when we come to play, we're in with a good chance at seeing some decent finals action. All this will come down to a bit of luck with injuries, a fair bit of belief and the desire from the playing group.

Put your pencils away, no team is assured of any wins anywhere at the moment. The 8 is still wide open and top 4 just as much so. Geelong would have been 3 on the trot had Brown and Clarke not collided. A little bit of luck and more discipline in the backline and we could have stolen the game from under the Pies. The Hawks are due to slump badly. Don't assume anything. If we want it we can have it.

[quote="Scotty12000"]The 8 is still wide open and top 4 just as much so.[quote]

All ya gotta do is make the finals, play four weeks of decent footy in September/October, and the flag is yours.

Finish 5-8, and you've just gotta play one more good game (and not lose one) than if you had finished 1-4.

I think the Crows are the only side to have done it outside top 4.

Seriously, besides the Cats and the Pies, the remaining 15 Teams are just making up numbers !!!

So if Warnock wasn't seriously concussed and missed that goal 10m out, we would of beaten Cats!!!!!!!!!!!! So if he kicks it, we are up there with the best, he misses, we lose by two points and we not up there with the best. Logical thinking guys.

We lost to Pies by 28 and 19pts.

They are the two best teams in the comp and you still talk down Carlton as a crap team. Its 2011, a new year.

Wow !!,,,,,at what stage did I say that I was talking down Carlton as a crap team ?

Regardless if we had beaten the Cats, I still believe that the Cats and the Pies are a step above everyone else at the moment. 2011 has been a great improvement on 2010 for sure, but I just do think we're up there with those 2 teams,,,,,,,,,

But, bring on 2012, thats going to be our year !!!!!

I don't get this.

You know you're being overly negative and it sounds like you're almost proud to admit it?

Why do it then?

Good Post Scottie............................i dont think the Cats are that special.Reckon the Pies are the standout team in a league of there own and everyone else is a contender to take there crown.Take Cloke out of the Pies and they would come to the field pronto.Reckon we are as good as any.But we have to change our forward line. The mix aint right and to be honest i dont have the answer.Maybe Casboult is worth a shot.

If everything plays out the way it is going, it will be a Cats vs Magpies Grand Final, they are the best 2 teams at the moment no doubt about that.

I think Carlton should be happy for a finish between 4th and 6th on the ladder. This finish would be a nice step forward for the year and we would at least get a home final. Top 4 would be great and we're still in the hunt but I urge people to not be too disappointed if we get 5th or 6th this year

Reckon the best way to judge our season is on the result at the end of it....many say we have improved this season and I agree....up till now....but if we roll over without a yelp in the next few weeks then we have gone backwards....I am not a subscriber to the minimalistic goal of winning a final....I believe if the CFC takes itself seriously and acknowledges and respects it's proud and successful history, every time a new season begins the aim must be to win the flag....make no mistake our draw overall this season is favourable....the opportunity is there to create history....whether we do or not is irrelevant to the goal itself....there is but only one prize in AFL competition so why beat around the bush with half arsed goals that just lower the expectations of all involved....the team and supporters....you put on that Navy jumper you run out onto the ground then you have officially signed on to win Carlton a premiership....that is the job description....there is no other....
